bekas imaam hogaye bhaayi huwaa judaa

The Imam (Husayn (as)) is left alone, his brother has been separated [from him]!

ab khatm hai laraayi alamdaar chalbasaa

doray imaam kehte huwe haaye kyaa huwaa

Now the battle is over, the flag bearer (Abbas (as)) has passed away!

The Imam (Husayn (as)) rushed [to him], crying, "Oh, what has happened?!"

pohnche jo girte padte to dekhaa yeh haal zaar

shaane qalam hai sher hai zakhmi padaa huwaa

He stumbled and fell as he arrived, only to see such a pitiable state.

His arms are severed, the lion (Abbas (as)) lies wounded.

bole lipatke ghaazi se kuchh to karo kalaam

kyaa haal hogayaa mere bhaayi yeh kyaa huwaa

He embraced the Ghazi (Abbas (as)) and pleaded, "Please, say something!"

What state has befallen you, my brother? What has happened?!

kyun aankh khol kar hame tum dekhte nahin

abbas bole teer hai maulaa lagaa huwaa

Why don't you open your eyes and look at me?

Abbas (as) replied, "My Master, an arrow has struck [my eye]."

pyaasi sakinaa se mai bohot sharmsaar hun

afsos hai ke waadaa na mujhse wafaa huwa

I am deeply ashamed before thirsty Sakina (as).

It is a regret that I could not fulfill my promise.
