Ay Aun-o-Muhammad

added by A

Keeping screen awake…

kehti thi ye zainab yun maa ka maan nibhana

ay auno-mohamad ay auno-mohamad

Zaynab (as) said to her children: "In this way, uphold your mother's honor

Oh Aun (as) and Muhammad (as), oh Aun (as) and Muhammad (as)!

shabbir ka tum sadqa ho ab khaime may beta

tum laut kar na aana ay auno-mohamad

You are to sacrifice yourselves for Husayn (as), so from now on

Do not return to your tents, oh Aun (as) and Muhammad (as)!

hai maa ko yaqeen tum maa ki baat rakhoge

ye yaad rahe khaimo may hai pyase bache

darya pe agar jaana ho seh roz ke pyaso

tum pyas na bujhana ay auno-mohamad

Your mother is certain you will keep your her word

Remember, there are thirsty children in the tents

If you have to go to the river, even though you are thirsty for three days…

Do not quench your thirst, oh Aun (as) and Muhammad (as)!

har haal may tum par laazim hai shukr khuda ka

ay shehzado hai sabr tumhara virsa

farzand ho tum zainab ke shikwa nahi karna

jab zakhm koi khana ay auno-mohamad

In every state, it is obligatory for you to thank God

Oh my princes, patience is your inheritance!

You are Zaynab's (as) sons, so do not complain

When you endure any wound, oh Aun (as) and Muhammad (as)!

kab humpe sitam karne ke liye aaye hai

yeh badro ohad ke badle ke liye aaye hai

laazim hai rajaz se pehle maidan may tum par

madhe ali sunaana ay auno-mohamad

They have come to oppress us

They have come seeking revenge for Badr and Uhud!

It is essential for you in the battlefield, before your battle poetry…

To recite praises of Ali (as), oh Aun (as) and Muhammad (as)!

jab saans tumhari bachon ho ukharne wali

us waqt sirhane aayengi madar meri

dil ki ye mere khwahish hai us dam meri maa se

zakhmon ko tum chupana ay auno-mohamad

When you are about to take your last breath…

At that moment, my mother Fatima (as) will come to you

My heart's desire is that at that moment

Conceal your wounds from her, oh Aun (as) and Muhammad (as)!

qaatil pe karam nana ki tarha kar dena

yun laaj mere bhai ke naam ki rakhna

jo waasta de bhai ka maidan pe us par

tum taygh na chalana ay auno-mohamad

Show kindness to your killer, just as your grandfather would

In this way, uphold the honor of my brother Husayn (as)!

If anyone in the battlefield pleads to you in his name…

Do not strike him with your sword, oh Aun (as) and Muhammad (as)!

jab laashe uthaakar khaime may laaye sarwar

zainab ye boli askhon ko apne chupakar

mai bhi na tumhe ro-ungi aur mere liye bhi

aansu na tum bahana ay auno-mohamad

When Husayn (as) carried their bodies back to the tents…

Zaynab (as) said, while hiding her tears…

"I will not weep for you, and for my sake also…

Do not shed tears", oh Aun (as) and Muhammad (as)!"

taazeem ki khaatir kyun utthay nahi ab beta

dekho to sirhane aaye hai mere bhaiya

jaago mere shehzado kya bhoolgaye ho

qadmo pe sar jhukana ay auno-mohamad

Why don't you rise now, my sons, in reverence…

for my brother Husayn (as) has come to visit you!

Wake up my princes, Have you forgotten…

That you must bow your heads at his feet, oh Aun (as) and Muhammad (as)?"

shabash mere bachon hoo mai tumse raazi

yeh kehke takallum khamosh huvi shahzadi

naizo pe safar karke hamraah hamaare

tumko hai shaam jaana ay auno-mohamad

"Well done, my children! I am pleased with you."

Saying this, O Takallum [poet], the princess Zaynab (as) fell silent.

After journeying with us on spearpoints

You must still go to Shaam, oh Aun (as) and Muhammad (as)!
