Ghareeb-e-Zahra ki ghurbat suno (Maqtal)

added by A

Keeping screen awake…

ghareeb e zahra ki ghurbat suno aye ehle azaa

akela reh gaya maqtal mein jab mera maula

labe faraat tha har ek khoon ka pyaasa

tha ghul charagh e imamat abhi bujhana hai

Hear the tragedy of Fatima's (as) downtrodden son, oh mourners!

When my master Husayn (as) was left all alone on the battlefield…

The army surrounded him from all four sides

Everyone near the Euphrates River was thirsting for his blood.

The cry went out: "We must extinguish the lamp of Imamate now!"

"We must throw Husayn (as) from his saddle to the ground!"

ye sunke sang kisine jabeen par maara

kisi ne pehlu mein barchi ka phal utaar diya

kisi ne saamne aakar chalayi tegh e jafa

ghareeb e zahra ka zee'n par sambhalna mushkil tha

ali o zahra ko rann mein rulaya jaata tha

hussain girte nahi the giraya jaata tha

Hearing this, someone struck Husayn (as) with a stone on his forehead.

Someone else thrust a spearhead into his side!

Someone came forward and wielded a sword of tyranny against him!

It was difficult for Fatima's (as) downtrodden son to stay on his saddle.

Ali (as) and Fatima (as) were being made to weep on the battlefield

Husayn (as) wasn't falling on his own; he was being forced down!

laga jo teer to asghar ko sheh ne yaad kiya

pukara ghazi ko jis waqt sar pe gurz laga

lagi jo barchi to akbar ko di tadap ke sadaa

tamacha khooli ne maara to bole ya zahra

ali ko yaad kiya sar pe zarb chalte hue

hasan ko yaad kiya mooh se khoon ugalte hue

When an arrow struck him, my Master Husayn (as) remembered Ali Asghar (as)!

He cried out to Abbas (as) the flag bearer when a mace struck his head!

When the spear pierced him, he cried out to Ali Akbar (as) in agony!

When Khooli struck him with a slap, he cried, "Oh Fatima (as)!"

He remembered Ali (as) as blows were struck upon his head...

He remembered Hassan (as) as blood gushed from his mouth!

jo teer seene mein the pusht se nikal aaye

nikal ke pehlu se sab barchhiyon ke phal aaye

qaraar kis tarha ab sheh ko ek pal aaye

When the Husayn (as] fell face down from his saddle to the ground…

The arrows that were in his chest emerged from his back

All the spearheads that were in his side came out from his other side

How could Husayn (as) find even a moment of peace now?

Ali's (as) son's feet slipped from the stirrups!

All the ribs of the Prophet's (pbuh) grandson were shattered!

rakam kiya hai yeh raavi ne dard ka manzar

ke chalne wala tha jis dum hussain par khanjar

The narrator has recorded this scene of pain:

At the very moment the dagger was about to be used on Husayn (as)…

Husayn's (as) daughter Sakina (as) stood in front of her aunt Zaynab (as)

At that moment, the downtrodden Imam (as) cried and said:

"My Sakina (as) might die, O cruel oppressor!

Have mercy on her, you tyrant, and let go of my hair!"

padha tha dasht mein bejaan batool ka beta

qareeb jaake ye ki shimr ne phir has ke sada

wo dekho aa gayi maqtal mein saniye zahra

ye sunte hi shahe dilgeer uth ke baith gaye

behen ke naam pe shabbir uth ke baith gaye

The lifeless son of Fatima (as) lay on the plain

Someone asked Shimr, "Is Husayn (as) still alive!?"

Approaching him, Shimr then shouted with a laugh:

"Look! The second Fatima Zaynab (as) has arrived at the battlefield!"

Hearing this, the grief-stricken King (as) sat up

Husayn (as) sat up at the mention of his sister's name!

yeh kehke aage badha haath mein liye khanjar

Saying this, Shimr moved forward, holding the dagger in his hand.

On one side, the body of Abbas (as) began to tremble by the river…

On the other, Fatima's (as) daughter emerged from the tents

Shimr committed a strange act of disrespect upon arriving:

The cruel man showed not an ounce of compassion...

The tyrant kicked the living Quran!

ajab tarhan se sitamgar ye kar raha tha sitam.

kabhi hussain ki zulfoa’n mein haath thay baaham.

The oppressor was committing this cruelty in a strange way

Sometimes his hands were intertwined in Husayn's (as) hair…

Sometimes the dark-hearted man laughed as he grabbed his blessed beard.

Suddenly, Shimr moved the hair aside with his dagger.

The downtrodden Imam said, "It is clear that you do not know of a mother's love"

"My mother, Fatima (as) is with me and has placed her head upon my throat!"

mazeed aap ho zakhmi yeh ho nahi sakta

gale pe shaah ke khanjar laeen ka jo chala

sada yeh aati thi subhana rabbiyal a'ala

pisar ka khoon baha sayyeda ki godi mein

sar e hussain kata fatima ki godi mein

Husayn (as) continued, "Mother, please move your head!"

"It is not possible for you to be wounded any further!"

As the accursed man's dagger moved across Husayn's (as)] throat

This cry was heard: "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High!"

The blood of the son flowed into the lap of the Lady Fatima (as)!

Husayn's (as) head was severed in Fatima's (as) lap!
