Kyu Na Roye Sajjad

added by MD

Keeping screen awake…

ek roz tadap kar ye poocha,

ke sajjad tu kab tak royega

Even after finding freedom, even after returning home from a foreign land, Sajjad (as)…

when he kept shedding tears, Zaynab (as) could no longer bear to see his grief.

One day, heartbroken, she asked him

"Sajjad (as), how long will you continue to weep like this?"

us waqt mere maula ne kaha

amma hay, apne muqaddar par, sughra ke sawalo par

kyun na roye sajjad

At that moment, my Imam (as) replied

"Oh my aunt, alas, I cry for my own fate, and for Sughra's (as) questions…

Why shouldn't Sajjad (as) weep?

kyun na roye sajjad, kyun na roye sajjad

Why shouldn't Sajjad (as) weep, why shouldn't Sajjad (as) weep?

Everyone else was martyred, and I was still alive! Even though I was sick, I could have fought!

I am ashamed before Ali Asghar (as); he at least fought against that arrow of tyranny.

Why didn't that arrow strike me, the same arrow that wounded Ali Asghar (as)?

Why shouldn't Sajjad (as) weep?

tum chup chup kar khoon roti ho, mai roun to kyun kehti ho

You silently weep tears of blood, so why do you ask me to stop when I cry?

'Don't cry, my son,' you say, as if you yourself haven't lost your brother!

I left my innocent sister [Sakina (as)] alone in prison and returned home.

Why shouldn't Sajjad (as) weep?

I saw Abbas's (as) head fall from the spear… I witnessed that terrible sight!

Why didn't I just die in that court, when [the oppressor] kept calling your name

saying, 'Where is that accursed Zaynab (as)? Bring her here, without a veil!'

Why shouldn't Sajjad (as) weep?

sar tasht may tha baba ka rakha, aur taqt pe qaatil baitha tha

dandaan-e- mubarak par unke, khush hoke chadi wo maarta tha

My father's head was placed in a tray, while his killer sat on the throne.

He joyfully struck my father's blessed teeth with his stick.

Alas, I could do nothing! That pain still pierces my heart.

Why shouldn't Sajjad (as) weep?

ay meri phupi insaf to kar, naize pe jo dekhe baap ka sar

ho saath safar may wo jisne, cheera tha ali akbar ka jigar

durro-ki, saza milti ho jahan, bachon ko ashk bahane par

kyun na roye sajjad

Oh, my aunt, be fair! How can I not weep when I saw my father's head on a spear?

And during the journey, he was with us, the one who tore Ali Akbar's (as) liver!

We were punished with lashes just for shedding tears, even the children!

Why shouldn't Sajjad (as) weep?

kyun saamne sughra ke jaun, behtar to yehi hai mar jaun

tum zinda ho akbar na raha, wo pooche to kya batlaun

kya sabr, karoo kya zapt karoo, hai zakhm bahot dil ke andar

kyun na roye sajjad

How can I face Sughra (as)? It would be better if I were dead.

You are alive, but Ali Akbar (as) is not! What will I tell her when she asks?

How can I be patient? How can I control myself? There are so many wounds inside my heart.

Why shouldn't Sajjad (as) weep?
