Royi bohot yateem Sakina
added by MJ
Keeping screen awake…
royi bohat yateem sakina nasheb mein
The orphaned Sakina (as) wept so deeply in the valley below!
sunsaan ban wo raat wo, uthta hua dhuan
kehti thi baba jaan, batado ke ho kahan
ek laash bol uthi meri, beti mein hoon yahan
arey lekar ussi sada ke, sahare pohanch gayi
roti hui nasheb mein, dukhiya pohanch gayi
That desolate wilderness, that night, the rising smoke…
A tiny little soul had gone out searching for her father!
She kept calling out, "Father, dear Father, please tell me where you are!"
And then a body spoke to her, "My daughter, I am here!"
Holding onto that voice, leaning on it for support, she made her way there!
Weeping as she went, that grief-stricken child finally arrived!
be-sar joh apne baap ko dekha nasheb mein
royi bohat yateem sakina nasheb mein
When she saw her father lying headless in the valley below…
The orphaned Sakina (as) wept so deeply in the valley below!
maqtal mein laash baap ki jab sar katti mili
thi umr chaar saal ki bachi tarhap gayi
There on the battlefield, the body of her father lay, severed from its head!
Just four years old, that little child trembled with anguish!
When the daughter could not even recognize her own father…
Sakina (as) cried out sobbing, "Oh Father!" [calling to him in desperate hope]!
And the poor, forsaken body of her father spoke back to her in the valley!
royi bohat yateem sakina nasheb mein
The orphaned Sakina (as) wept so deeply in the valley below!
likha hai raaviyon ne woh manzar barha ajeeb
jangal woh kaali raat woh ghurbat woh gham naseeb
awaaz sun ke baap ki pohanchi hai jab kareeb
haalat pidar ki dekh ke royi bohat ghareeb
beti ke saath baap bhi roya nasheb mein
Those who witnessed it have recorded that scene as utterly unlike any other!
That wilderness, that dark night, that aloneness, that fate of grief!
When she heard her father's voice and drew close to him!
Seeing the condition her father was in, that helpless child wept and wept!
And the father wept too, alongside his daughter, there in the valley below!
royi bohat yateem sakina nasheb mein
The orphaned Sakina (as) wept so deeply in the valley below!
Then the grief-stricken, oppressed daughter of Husayn (as) moved forward!
She saw her father's body, filled with arrows!
Panicking, she began trying to pull the arrows from his body!
But she was so young, she could not pull out a single one!
When she could find no unmarked place on Husayn's (as) chest in the valley below…
royi bohat yateem sakina nasheb mein
The orphaned Sakina (as) wept so deeply in the valley below!
karne lagi tawaaf woh baba ki laash ka
mayoos ho ke paayi thi behti woh ghamzada
rukhsaar apne baap ke talwon pe rakh diya
le kar pidar ka paaon ka bosa nasheb mein
Not a single spot on his body was free of arrows!
She began to circle her father's body [as one circles the Kaaba, in grief and love]!
Overcome and helpless, that heartbroken child was found there, drifting in her sorrow!
She pressed her cheek against the soles of her father's feet!
And kissed her father's feet, there in the valley below!
royi bohat yateem sakina nasheb mein
The orphaned Sakina (as) wept so deeply in the valley below!
apne pidar ki laash pe le le ke siskiyan
woh apne dard baap se karne lagi bayan
rukh par bani thi saaf joh zalim ki ungliyan
bachi ne jab dikhaye tamachon ke woh nishan
zakhmi badan hussain ka tarhpa nasheb mein
Sobbing over her father's body, breath caught between cries!
She began to tell her father everything she had suffered!
The marks that the oppressor's fingers had left clearly on her face!
When that child showed her father the bruises from the blows she had received!
Husayn's (as) wounded body convulsed with grief in the valley below!
royi bohat yateem sakina nasheb mein
The orphaned Sakina (as) wept so deeply in the valley below!
phir yeh kehne lagi ro ro ke yateema baba
mere baalon ko sitamgar ne jo pakrha baba
maara zalim ne mujhe aisa tamacha baba
chagaya meri nigahon mein andhera baba
Then, weeping bitterly, that orphaned child said, "Oh Father!"
"The cruel oppressor grabbed me by my hair, oh Father!"
"The tyrant struck me with such a brutal slap, oh Father!"
"Darkness flooded my eyes, oh Father!"
kehti thi mein yateem hoon mujh par na waar kar
ki minnaten bohat ki zara intezar kar
mein de rahi thi shimr ko bundhe utaar kar
cheene hai be reham ne magar mujhko maar kar
yeh dard joh pidar ko sunaya nasheb mein
"I was telling him, I am an orphan, do not strike me!"
"I pleaded with him so many times, just wait, just stop!"
"I was offering Shimr my earrings, taking them off to give him!"
"But that merciless one snatched them from me and struck me anyway!"
This was the pain she poured out to her father, there in the valley below!
royi bohat yateem sakina nasheb mein
The orphaned Sakina (as) wept so deeply in the valley below!
joh haath sar pe roz phirate they shah e deen
uss haath ke kareeb jab aayi woh nazneen
apne pidar ke haath pe jis dam rakhi jabeen
uss dam na thi yateem ke pairon taley zameen
bin ungliyon ka haath joh chooma nasheb mein
The hands that used to stroke her head every day, the hands of the one who led the faith [Husayn (as)]!
When that beloved child drew close to those hands…
The moment she pressed her forehead against her father's hand!
In that moment, the ground beneath the orphan's feet felt as though it had given way!
She kissed the hand that was missing its fingers [severed in battle], there in the valley below!
royi bohat yateem sakina nasheb mein
The orphaned Sakina (as) wept so deeply in the valley below!
baba ko apne chorh ke tanha nasheb mein
Who could ever write a eulogy for the helplessness of that orphaned child?
The moment she was separated from the body of the sovereign of his age [Husayn (as)]!
It seemed as though the daughter of Husayn (as) could not go on living!
When the beloved daughter of Husayn (as) began to leave the valley!
Leaving her father behind, all alone in the valley below…
royi bohat yateem sakina nasheb mein
The orphaned Sakina (as) wept so deeply in the valley below!
