Sadaat-e-Karbala

Added 2026-08-04 by AP

sadaat-e-karbala, sadaat-e-karbala.

chelum ko karbala mei jab aayi wo bibiyan.

The noble descendants [of the Prophet] of Karbala, the noble descendants of Karbala.

When those sacred women returned to Karbala on the fortieth day after the martyrdom…

kuch bibiyan yaaha hai kuch bibiyan wahaan

karti hui fuga

arey bikhri hui thi maktale sarwar mei jabaja.

Some of the women gathered here, some gathered there

each one crying out in grief.

For scattered throughout the place of Husayn's (as) martyrdom lay remnants of what had passed.

ek bibi dashte khooni mei jaati thi nehr par

kehti ba chashme tar

abbas dene aayi hoo pursa sakina ka.

One of the women walked through the blood-soaked plains toward the riverbank

and with tears streaming from her eyes, she said:

"Abbas (as), I have come to offer you the condolences of Sakina (as)."

gut gut ke ladli teri zindaan mei mar gayi

turbat wahin bani

bhaiya woh qaid se na hui maar ke bhi juda.

Your beloved [Sakina (as)] suffocated, gasping her last breaths inside that prison

and her grave was made right there in the dungeon of Shaam

Brother, even in death, she was not separated from that prison!

akbar ki kabr par yun hui laila nauha gar

dekha na saal bhar

aayi hun qaide shaam se ab hoke main reha.

At the grave of Akbar (as), Laila [his mother] mourned this way:

"I had not seen you for a whole year

and now I have finally come, freed from my captivity in Shaam."

banu yeh ben karti thi aye mere bezubaan

maa dhoonde ab kahan

batlade hai kahaan mera asghar aye karbala.

Another woman wept over [Ali Asghar (as)], saying: "Oh my speechless one that was too young to speak...

where is a mother to search for you now?

Tell me, where is my Asghar (as)? Oh Karbala, tell me!"

qurbaan tere aye mere maa jaye bewatan

majboor thi behen

zindaan mei mujse teri amanat hui juda.

"I would give everything for you, oh my mother's beloved child, left without a home

your sister was helpless

and in that prison, the trust you left with me (your beloved Sakina) has been left behind!

rote hai khaas-o-aam tera sun ke ye kalaam

aye shah ke ghulaam

nauha tera anees (poet) hai maqboole baregaah.

Hearing these words, people of every rank weep

oh servants of the Imam (as).

This elegy, [composed by] Anees the poet, is one accepted in the court of God, inshaAllah!
