shaam ki aurton aik waada karo,
roz qabre sakina pe aaogi tum
Zaynab (as) pleaded: O women of Shaam, make me one promise...
that every day you will come to Sakina's (as) grave!
jab talak laut kar mai na aaun aake shamma jalaaogi tum
shaam ki aurton aik waada karo roz qabre sakina pe aaogi tum
Until I return, come and light a candle here for her...
O women of Shaam, make me one promise: every day, come to Sakina's (as) grave!
surate shahe deen bekafan bhi, mere jaisi aseer-e-mehen bhi
khaali kurte mai madhfun-e-ghurbat, misl-e-asghar rahi bekafan bhi
kya kafan ki tarah roz chadar, iss lahad par chadhaaogi tum
shaam ki auraton aik waada karo, roz qabre sakina pe aaogi tum
Like her father Husayn (as), she too was left without a shroud, and like me, she too was a prisoner in chains.
Buried in a plain, empty garment, far from home, she lay without a shroud, just as Ali Asghar (as) had.
Will you lay a cloth over her grave each day, as though it were her shroud?
O women of Shaam, make me one promise: every day, come to Sakina's (as) grave!
aik yasrab ki thi shaahzaadi, uska saqqa tha abbas ghaazi
mashq laikar gaya su-e-dariyaa, aur qabze mai karli taraayi
loriyon mai yeh sachi kahaani, roz isko sunaaogi tum
shaam ki auraton aik waada karo, roz qabre sakina pe aaogi tum
She was a princess from Medina, and her water-bearer was the brave Abbas (as).
He carried the water-skin to the Euphrates and fought his way to its banks.
This true story, will you tell it to her each day in the form of a lullaby?
O women of Shaam, make me one promise: every day, come to Sakina's (as) grave!
hamne zindaan se paayi rihaai, ab behen paas hogi na bhai
baat itni si bas yaad rakhna, meri bacchi hai gham ki sataayi
tumne bazaar main toh sataaya, ab na isko sataaogi tum
shaam ki auraton aik waada karo, roz qabre sakina pe aaogi tum
We have been freed from the prison, but now she has neither sister nor brother beside her.
Just remember this one thing: my little girl has been worn down by grief!
She was already paraded and humiliated through the marketplace; please, do not cause her more pain now...
O women of Shaam, make me one promise: every day, come to Sakina's (as) grave!
jab kabhi qaid khane main aana, beridaa bibiyon ko na laana
tumko asghar bhi dega duaaen, iski tanhaiyaan yun mitaana
chhote chhote se baccho ko laakar, paas iske sulaaogi tum
shaam ki auraton aik waada karo, roz qabre sakina pe aaogi tum
Whenever you come to the prison to visit, do not bring those who are bare headed with you;
Even Ali Asghar (as) [whose memory rests here] will bless you for easing her loneliness in this way!
Bring your little children and lay them to sleep beside her...
O women of Shaam, make me one promise: every day, come to Sakina's (as) grave!
qabre bekas pe aansun bahaane, haal qaide sitam ka sunaane
qaafla karbala ko chalaa hai, iske baba ka chehlum manaane
itna kehdo hamaari taraf se, iska chehlum manaaogi tum
shaam ki auraton aik waada karo, roz qabre sakina pe aaogi tum
Shed tears over the grave of this helpless child, and recount the suffering she endured in captivity.
The caravan has set out for Karbala to observe the 40th of her father Husayn (as)...
Tell her this on our behalf: that you will observe her Chehlum too!
O women of Shaam, make me one promise: every day, come to Sakina's (as) grave!
shaamiyon ki bahu betiyon se, keh rahi thi woh akber yeh roke
yeh amaanat hai pardesiyon ki, kar rahi hun tumhaare hawaale
mujhse ik baar bas itna kehdo, apna waada nibhaaogi tum
shaam ki auraton aik waada karo, roz qabre sakina pe aaogi tum
O Akbar (poet), Zaynab (as) cried out to the daughters of Shaam...
"This trust belongs to those far from home, and I am placing it in your care!
Just say this to me once, only once: will you keep your promise to me?"
O women of Shaam, make one promise: that you will visit Sakina's (as) grave every single day!
