Umme Laila Sambhaal Zainab Ko
Keeping screen awake…
umme laila sambhaal zainab ko
laa raha hoo mai laashaye akbar
umme laila sambhaal....
bolay honge hussain ye rokar
umme laila sambhaal....
Umm-e-Laila, please console Zaynab (as)!
I am bringing the body of Akbar (as).
Umm-e-Laila, please console her…
Husayn (as) must have said this, weeping…
Umm-e-Laila, please console her…
naujawan laash hai zaeefi hai
meri nazron se dekh manzar ko
kaise hamsheer ko sambhalunga
mai sambhale hue hoo akbar ko
tera ehsaan hoga ye mujh par
umme laila sambhaal....
It's the body of a young man, and I am weakened [by grief].
Look at this scene through my eyes!
How will I console my sister (Zaynab (as))?
I am [already struggling to] hold Akbar (as).
It would be a great favor to me.
Umm-e-Laila, please console her…
iske seene se leke naame ali
maine barchi abhi nikaali hai
imtehan de chuki meri ghurbat
ab teri bekasi ki baari hai
tu bhi is waqt ya ali keh kar
umme laila sambhaal....
From his chest, invoking the name of Ali (as)
I have just now pulled out the spear.
My desolation has already faced its trial.
Now it is your turn for helplessness.
You too, at this moment, by saying "Ya Ali (as)"
Umm-e-Laila, please console her…
do nageene thay iski jholi may
dono akbar pe kar diye sadqa
sabr aisa ke apne beton par
maine rote isay nahi dekha
hai magar ab ye laashaye akbar
umme laila sambhaal....
She had two precious gems in her lap;
She sacrificed both of them for Akbar (as).
Such was her patience, that over her own sons
I never saw her weep.
But now, this is Akbar's (as) body…
Umm-e-Laila, please console her…
rok rakha hai apne ashkon ko
sab se chup chup ke aahe bharti hai
mai samajhta hoo maadare akbar
teri mamta pe jo guzarti hai
rak ke apne kaleje par pathar
umme laila sambhaal....
She has held back her tears
And quietly, away from everyone, she sighs in grief.
I understand, oh mother of Akbar (as)
What your motherly love is enduring.
Brace your heart and endure this grief
Umm-e-Laila, please console her…
kaise laashe jawan uthaye hoo
aediyan khat banati aati hai
in nishano ko peeche peeche mere
amma zehra mitati aati hai
uski nazrein na dekhe ye manzarumme laila sambhaal....
How can I carry this young body?
My heels are dragging, leaving a trail behind.
Behind me, these marks
My mother, Fatima (as), is erasing them as she comes.
May her (Zaynab's (as)) eyes not see this sight, Umm-e-Laila, please console her!
