Zindaan khul gaya hai, sakina watan chalo
added by Abbas P.
Keeping screen awake…
zindan khul gaya hai sakina watan chalo
sajjad keh ke gir para choti si qabr par
mazloom aise gir para turbat pe bhen ki
jaise hussain tha gira akbar ki lash par
The prison has opened, Sakina (as), let's go home!
Saying this, Sajjad (as) collapsed onto her small grave…
The oppressed one fell upon his sister's grave
The way Husayn (as) had fallen over the body of Ali Akbar (as)…
dekho nhi rahi mere hathon main ab rasan
jane laga hai qafila ab loat kar watan
lekin tu bhen shaam main qaidi he reh gayi
kha kar tamache so gayi zindan ki khaak par
Look, there are no more chains around my hands now!
The caravan is finally heading back home!
But you, my sister, remained a prisoner in Shaam…
You fell asleep on the prison floor, your face still bearing the mark of their strikes…
karta hoon yaad ro ke main manzar wo dard ka
kano ke zakhm par jo tamaacha tujhe laga
baba ko tu sina pe sada deti reh gayi
baba sina pe rote thy tab tujh ko dekh kar
Weeping, I recall that scene of unbearable pain…
The slap they struck you with, landing on your already wounded ears…
You kept calling out to your father, pressing him to your heart…
And your father Husayn (as) used to weep, holding you close, just looking at you…
amma ki tarha tujh ko na mil paayi thi rida
baba ki tarha tujh ko kafan bhi na mil saka
pathar bhi khaaye shaam main tu ne meri tarhan
naaqe se gir ke hogayi teri bhi kham kamar
Like your mother Fatima (as), you too were denied a proper shroud…
Like your father Husayn (as), you too could not be given a burial cloth…
In Shaam, you were struck with stones, just as I was…
You fell from the camel, and your back was bent with the pain of it…
main le ke tujh ko shaam se waapas na ja saka
baba ko kya bataon main ab jaake karbala
kurtay main dafn kar ke banaayi teri lehad
abid ko khoon rulaaye ga ye dard umr bhar
I could not take you with me when I left Shaam…
What will I even tell our father when I return to Karbala?
I buried you in a shirt [in place of a shroud] and made it your grave…
This grief will draw tears of blood from Abid (as) for the rest of his life…
karbal main chin gayi thi tere sar se jo rida
waapas main la chuka hoon usay dekh tou zara
sar par main tere rakhta rida apne haath se
afsos haaye sham mein tu na rahi magar
The covering that was torn from your head in Karbala…
I have brought it back for you, just look…
With my own hands, I place it gently over your head…
But oh, the grief of it… you are no longer here, left behind in Shaam…
amma ke bain sun ke nikalti hai jaan meri
kehti hai umr bhar na wo saaye main jaye gi
kaise uthaaon ujari hui maa ko tu bata
teri lahad se maa ki bhi hat ti nahi nazar
Hearing our mother lament takes the life right out of me…
She says she will never again walk in the shade…
Tell me, how do I lift a mother who has been shattered?
Your mother's gaze cannot pull away from your grave…
wo rukhsat e hussain pe zainab ka imtehaan
aisa hi aaj phir se hai zindaan ka samaa
sajjad ho raha hai juda aise behan se
uthtaa hai ro ke qabr se girta hai qabr par
That trial Zaynab (as) faced at the farewell of Husayn (as) [on the day of Ashura]…
That same anguish fills this prison today…
Sajjad (as) is being torn away from his sister like this…
He rises weeping from her grave, only to fall back upon it again…
likhun sahaab (poet) kis tarhan mehshar ka marhala
tha gham ki inteha pe bhi abid ka hosla
zinda behan ki qabr se uth kar chala gaya
ahwal e gham sunane ko baba ki qabr par
How do I, Sahaab [the poet], describe this scene that will weigh heavy on the Day of Judgment?
Even at the very peak of grief, Abid (as) held on with courage…
He rose from the grave of his sister, who had died while still living [in captivity], and walked away…
To go and tell their father Husayn (as) everything, at his grave in Karbala…
