zuljanah aqbal minal maydaan khaali

waa waylaa

haaye wa hussaina

ay wa ghareeb

ay wa shaheed

ay wa madhloom

Zuljanah [Imam Husayn's (as) horse] returned from the battlefield empty!

Oh, woe!

Oh, Husayn (as)! Oh, Husayn (as)!

Oh, the forsaken one!

Oh, the martyr!

Oh, the oppressed one!

shor huwaa lo khaali aaya

chhor ke zainab kaa maajaayaa

baaghe kati hain khunme nahaayaa

zaynab ne dukhra ye sunaaya

A cry went up: Look, he [Zuljanah] has come back empty!

Leaving Zaynab's (as) brother behind!

His reins are cut, soaked in blood!

Zaynab (as) recounted her sorrow, saying…

zuljanah aqbal minal maydaan khaali

waa waylaa

haaye wa hussaina

ay wa ghareeb

ay wa shaheed

ay wa madhloom

Zuljanah returned from the battlefield empty!

Oh, woe!

Oh, Husayn (as)! Oh, Husayn (as)!

Oh, the forsaken one!

Oh, the martyr!

Oh, the oppressed one!

khunme tar rehwaar ko dekha

royi tarap kar baali sakinaa

boli kahaan hai mere baabaa

chhin liyaa kyun meraa sahaaraa

Seeing the horse soaked in blood…

Young Sakina (as) cried out in anguish!

She asked, Where is my Father [Husayn (as)]?

Why has my support been snatched away?!

zuljanah aqbal minal maydaan khaali

waa waylaa

haaye wa hussaina

ay wa ghareeb

ay wa shaheed

ay wa madhloom

Zuljanah returned from the battlefield empty!

Oh, woe!

Oh, Husayn (as)! Oh, Husayn (as)!

Oh, the forsaken one!

Oh, the martyr!

Oh, the oppressed one!

mai tere sadqe mai tere waari

tu mere baabaa ki hai sawaari

tere badanse khun hai jaari

zakhm lage hai jismpe kaari

I sacrifice myself for you, I give my life for you!

You are the mount of my Father [Husayn (as)]!

Blood is flowing from your body!

You have grievous wounds on your body!

zuljanah aqbal minal maydaan khaali

waa waylaa

haaye wa hussaina

ay wa ghareeb

ay wa shaheed

ay wa madhloom

Zuljanah returned from the battlefield empty!

Oh, woe!

Oh, Husayn (as)! Oh, Husayn (as)!

Oh, the forsaken one!

Oh, the martyr!

Oh, the oppressed one!

baat namaani tune meri

royi bohot qadmon se lipti

boli kahaan hai mere baabaa

chhin liyaa kyun meraa sahaaraa

You did not heed my words!

She cried profusely, clinging to its feet

She asked, Where is my Father [Husayn (as)]?

Why has my support been snatched away?

zuljanah aqbal minal maydaan khaali

waa waylaa

haaye wa hussaina

ay wa ghareeb

ay wa shaheed

ay wa madhloom

Zuljanah returned from the battlefield empty!

Oh, woe!

Oh, Husayn (as)! Oh, Husayn (as)!

Oh, the forsaken one!

Oh, the martyr!

Oh, the oppressed one!

chhor diyaa kyun ranme akelaa

choor ghamon se thaa meraa baabaa

jis ne uthaayaa laashe pe laashaa

tanhaa kyun maqtal seaayaa

Why did you leave him alone on the battlefield?

My Father [Husayn (as)] was shattered by sorrows already!

He who had lifted corpse after corpse…

Why did you come back alone from the place of his martyrdom?

zuljanah aqbal minal maydaan khaali

waa waylaa

haaye wa hussaina

ay wa ghareeb

ay wa shaheed

ay wa madhloom

Zuljanah returned from the battlefield empty!

Oh, woe!

Oh, Husayn (as)! Oh, Husayn (as)!

Oh, the forsaken one!

Oh, the martyr!

Oh, the oppressed one!

qatl huwe shabbir jo ran me

gunji sadaa raihaan ye ban me

aag lagi zahraa ke chaman me

pohnchi khabar sughraa ko watan me

When Husayn (as) was martyred on the battlefield…

this cry echoed through the wilderness, oh Rayhan!

Fire consumed Fatima's (as) family

The news reached Sughra (as) in her homeland

zuljanah aqbal minal maydaan khaali

waa waylaa

haaye wa hussaina

ay wa ghareeb

ay wa shaheed

ay wa madhloom

Zuljanah returned from the battlefield empty!

Oh, woe!

Oh, Husayn (as)! Oh, Husayn (as)!

Oh, the forsaken one!

Oh, the martyr!

Oh, the oppressed one!
