Al-Mu'minun · The Believers
118 verses · Revealed in Makkah
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
-
23:1
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ١
Qad aflaha almu/minoon
QaraiCertainly, the faithful have attained salvation
Saheeh InternationalCertainly will the believers have succeeded:
-
23:2
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى صَلَاتِهِمْ خَٰشِعُونَ ٢
Allatheena hum fee salatihimkhashiAAoon
Qarai—those who are humble in their prayers,
Saheeh InternationalThey who are during their prayer humbly intent
-
23:3
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنِ ٱللَّغْوِ مُعْرِضُونَ ٣
Wallatheena hum AAani allaghwimuAAridoon
Qaraiavoid vain talk,
Saheeh InternationalAnd they who turn away from ill speech
-
23:4
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِلزَّكَوٰةِ فَٰعِلُونَ ٤
Wallatheena hum lizzakatifaAAiloon
Qaraicarry out their [duty of] zakat,
Saheeh InternationalAnd they who are observant of zakāh
-
23:5
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَٰفِظُونَ ٥
Wallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoon
Qaraiguard their private parts,
Saheeh InternationalAnd they who guard their private parts
-
23:6
إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ ٦
Illa AAala azwajihim awma malakat aymanuhum fa-innahum ghayru maloomeen
Qarai(except from their spouses or their slave women, for then they are not blameworthy;
Saheeh InternationalExcept from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed -
-
23:7
فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ ٧
Famani ibtagha waraa thalikafaola-ika humu alAAadoon
Qaraibut whoever seeks [anything] beyond that—it is they who are transgressors),
Saheeh InternationalBut whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors -
-
23:8
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَٰنَٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ ٨
Wallatheena hum li-amanatihimwaAAahdihim raAAoon
Qaraiand those who keep their trusts and covenants
Saheeh InternationalAnd they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive
-
23:9
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَوَٰتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ ٩
Wallatheena hum AAala salawatihimyuhafithoon
Qaraiand are watchful of their prayers.
Saheeh InternationalAnd they who carefully maintain their prayers -
-
23:10
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ ١٠
Ola-ika humu alwarithoon
QaraiIt is they who will be the inheritors,
Saheeh InternationalThose are the inheritors
-
23:11
ٱلَّذِينَ يَرِثُونَ ٱلْفِرْدَوْسَ هُمْ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ ١١
Allatheena yarithoona alfirdawsa humfeeha khalidoon
Qaraiwho shall inherit paradise and will remain in it [forever].
Saheeh InternationalWho will inherit al-Firdaus. They will abide therein eternally.
-
23:12
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن سُلَٰلَةٍ مِّن طِينٍ ١٢
Walaqad khalaqna al-insana minsulalatin min teen
QaraiCertainly We created man from an extract of clay.
Saheeh InternationalAnd certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.
-
23:13
ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَٰهُ نُطْفَةً فِى قَرَارٍ مَّكِينٍ ١٣
Thumma jaAAalnahu nutfatan feeqararin makeen
QaraiThen We made him a drop of [seminal] fluid [lodged] in a secure abode.
Saheeh InternationalThen We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb].
-
23:14
ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا ٱلنُّطْفَةَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْعَلَقَةَ مُضْغَةً فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْمُضْغَةَ عِظَٰمًا فَكَسَوْنَا ٱلْعِظَٰمَ لَحْمًا ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَٰهُ خَلْقًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ ٱلْخَٰلِقِينَ ١٤
Thumma khalaqna annutfataAAalaqatan fakhalaqna alAAalaqata mudghatanfakhalaqna almudghata AAithamanfakasawna alAAithama lahmanthumma ansha/nahu khalqan akhara fatabarakaAllahu ahsanu alkhaliqeen
QaraiThen We created the drop of fluid as a clinging mass. Then We created the clinging mass as a fleshy tissue. Then We created the fleshy tissue as bones. Then We clothed the bones with flesh. Then We produced him as [yet] another creature. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators!
Saheeh InternationalThen We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allāh, the best of creators.
-
23:15
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُم بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ لَمَيِّتُونَ ١٥
Thumma innakum baAAda thalikalamayyitoon
QaraiThen indeed you die after that.
Saheeh InternationalThen indeed, after that you are to die.
-
23:16
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ تُبْعَثُونَ ١٦
Thumma innakum yawma alqiyamatitubAAathoon
QaraiThen you will indeed be raised up on the Day of Resurrection.
Saheeh InternationalThen indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected.
-
23:17
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعَ طَرَآئِقَ وَمَا كُنَّا عَنِ ٱلْخَلْقِ غَٰفِلِينَ ١٧
Walaqad khalaqna fawqakum sabAAa tara-iqawama kunna AAani alkhalqi ghafileen
QaraiCertainly We created above you seven levels and We have not been oblivious of the creation.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We have created above you seven layered heavens, and never have We been of [Our] creation unaware.
-
23:18
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۢ بِقَدَرٍ فَأَسْكَنَّٰهُ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ ذَهَابٍۭ بِهِۦ لَقَٰدِرُونَ ١٨
Waanzalna mina assama-imaan biqadarin faaskannahu fee al-ardiwa-inna AAala thahabin bihi laqadiroon
QaraiWe sent down water from the sky in a measured manner, and We lodged it within the ground, and We are indeed able to take it away.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away.
-
23:19
فَأَنشَأْنَا لَكُم بِهِۦ جَنَّٰتٍ مِّن نَّخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَٰبٍ لَّكُمْ فِيهَا فَوَٰكِهُ كَثِيرَةٌ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ ١٩
Faansha/na lakum bihi jannatinmin nakheelin waaAAnabin lakum feeha fawakihukatheeratun waminha ta/kuloon
QaraiThen with it We produced for you gardens of date palms and vines. There are abundant fruits in them for you, and you eat from them,
Saheeh InternationalAnd We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.
-
23:20
وَشَجَرَةً تَخْرُجُ مِن طُورِ سَيْنَآءَ تَنۢبُتُ بِٱلدُّهْنِ وَصِبْغٍ لِّلَْٔاكِلِينَ ٢٠
Washajaratan takhruju min toori saynaatanbutu bidduhni wasibghin lilakileen
Qaraiand a tree that grows on Mount Sinai, which produces oil and a seasoning for those who eat.
Saheeh InternationalAnd [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food [i.e., olives] for those who eat.
-
23:21
وَإِنَّ لَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ لَعِبْرَةً ۖ نُّسْقِيكُم مِّمَّا فِى بُطُونِهَا وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَنَٰفِعُ كَثِيرَةٌ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ ٢١
Wa-inna lakum fee al-anAAamilaAAibratan nusqeekum mimma fee butoonihawalakum feeha manafiAAu katheeratun waminhata/kuloon
QaraiThere is indeed a moral for you in the cattle: We give you to drink of that which is in their bellies, and you have many uses in them, and you eat some of them,
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.

23:22
وَعَلَيْهَا وَعَلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ تُحْمَلُونَ ٢٢
WaAAalayha waAAala alfulki tuhmaloon
Qaraiand you are carried on them and on ships.
Saheeh InternationalAnd upon them and on ships you are carried.
-
23:23
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ فَقَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ٢٣
Walaqad arsalna noohan ilaqawmihi faqala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha malakum min ilahin ghayruhu afala tattaqoon
QaraiCertainly We sent Noah to his people, and he said, ‘O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other god besides Him. Will you not then be wary [of Him]?’
Saheeh InternationalAnd We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"
-
23:24
فَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوْمِهِۦ مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُرِيدُ أَن يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَٰٓئِكَةً مَّا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا فِىٓ ءَابَآئِنَا ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ٢٤
Faqala almalao allatheenakafaroo min qawmihi ma hatha illa basharunmithlukum yureedu an yatafaddala AAalaykum walaw shaaAllahu laanzala mala-ikatan ma samiAAnabihatha fee aba-ina al-awwaleen
QaraiBut the elite of the faithless from among his people said, ‘This is just a human being like you, who seeks to dominate you. Had Allah wished, He would have sent down angels. We never heard of such a thing among our forefathers.
Saheeh InternationalBut the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "This is not but a man like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you; and if Allāh had willed [to send a messenger], He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers.

23:25
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌۢ بِهِۦ جِنَّةٌ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ ٢٥
In huwa illa rajulun bihi jinnatunfatarabbasoo bihi hatta heen
QaraiHe is just a man possessed by madness. So bear with him for a while.’
Saheeh InternationalHe is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a time."
-
23:26
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرْنِى بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ ٢٦
Qala rabbi onsurnee bimakaththaboon
QaraiHe said, ‘My Lord! Help me, for they impugn me.’
Saheeh International[Noah] said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."
-
23:27
فَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ أَنِ ٱصْنَعِ ٱلْفُلْكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ ٱلتَّنُّورُ ۙ فَٱسْلُكْ فِيهَا مِن كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ ٱثْنَيْنِ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا مَن سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْقَوْلُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَلَا تُخَٰطِبْنِى فِى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ ۖ إِنَّهُم مُّغْرَقُونَ ٢٧
Faawhayna ilayhi ani isnaAAialfulka bi-aAAyunina wawahyina fa-ithajaa amruna wafara attannooru faslukfeeha min kullin zawjayni ithnayni waahlaka illaman sabaqa AAalayhi alqawlu minhum wala tukhatibneefee allatheena thalamoo innahum mughraqoon
QaraiSo We revealed to him: ‘Build the ark before Our eyes and by Our revelation. When Our edict comes and the oven gushes [a stream of water], bring into it a pair of every kind [of animal], and your family, except those of them against whom the decree has gone beforehand, and do not plead with Me for those who are wrongdoers: they shall indeed be drowned.’
Saheeh InternationalSo We inspired to him, "Construct the ship under Our observation and Our inspiration, and when Our command comes and the oven overflows, put into it [i.e., the ship] from each [creature] two mates and your family, except him for whom the decree [of destruction] has proceeded. And do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned.

23:28
فَإِذَا ٱسْتَوَيْتَ أَنتَ وَمَن مَّعَكَ عَلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ فَقُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى نَجَّىٰنَا مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ٢٨
Fa-itha istawayta anta waman maAAakaAAala alfulki faquli alhamdu lillahi allatheenajjana mina alqawmi aththalimeen
Qarai‘When you, and those who are with you, are settled in the ark, say, ‘‘All praise belongs to Allah, who has delivered us from the wrongdoing lot.’’
Saheeh InternationalAnd when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, 'Praise to Allāh who has saved us from the wrongdoing people.'
-
23:29
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلْنِى مُنزَلًا مُّبَارَكًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ ٢٩
Waqul rabbi anzilnee munzalan mubarakanwaanta khayru almunzileen
QaraiAnd say, ‘‘My Lord! Land me with a blessed landing, for You are the best of those who bring ashore.’’ ’
Saheeh InternationalAnd say, 'My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].'"
-
23:30
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لََٔايَٰتٍ وَإِن كُنَّا لَمُبْتَلِينَ ٣٠
Inna fee thalika laayatinwa-in kunna lamubtaleen
QaraiThere are indeed signs in this; and indeed, We have been testing.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed in that are signs, and indeed, We are ever testing [Our servants].
-
23:31
ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْنًا ءَاخَرِينَ ٣١
Thumma ansha/na min baAAdihim qarnan akhareen
QaraiThen after them We brought forth another generation,
Saheeh InternationalThen We produced after them a generation of others.
-
23:32
فَأَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِّنْهُمْ أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ٣٢
Faarsalna feehim rasoolan minhum anioAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhuafala tattaqoon
Qaraiand We sent them an apostle from among themselves, saying, ‘Worship Allah! You have no other god besides Him. Will you not then be wary [of Him]?’
Saheeh InternationalAnd We sent among them a messenger from themselves, [saying], "Worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"
-
23:33
وَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَأُ مِن قَوْمِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَآءِ ٱلَْٔاخِرَةِ وَأَتْرَفْنَٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يَأْكُلُ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ مِنْهُ وَيَشْرَبُ مِمَّا تَشْرَبُونَ ٣٣
Waqala almalao min qawmihi allatheenakafaroo wakaththaboo biliqa-i al-akhiratiwaatrafnahum fee alhayati addunyama hatha illa basharun mithlukum ya/kulumimma ta/kuloona minhu wayashrabu mimma tashraboon
QaraiSaid the elite of his people, who were faithless and who denied the encounter of the Hereafter and whom We had given affluence in the life of the world: ‘This is just a human being like yourselves: he eats what you eat, and drinks what you drink.
Saheeh InternationalAnd the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink.
-
23:34
وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُم بَشَرًا مِّثْلَكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَّخَٰسِرُونَ ٣٤
Wala-in ataAAtum basharan mithlakuminnakum ithan lakhasiroon
QaraiIf you obey a human being like yourselves, you will indeed be losers.
Saheeh InternationalAnd if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers.
-
23:35
أَيَعِدُكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ إِذَا مِتُّمْ وَكُنتُمْ تُرَابًا وَعِظَٰمًا أَنَّكُم مُّخْرَجُونَ ٣٥
AyaAAidukum annakum itha mittumwakuntum turaban waAAithaman annakummukhrajoon
QaraiDoes he promise you that when you have died and become bones and dust you will indeed be raised [from the dead]?
Saheeh InternationalDoes he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]?
-
23:36
۞ هَيْهَاتَ هَيْهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ ٣٦
Hayhata hayhata limatooAAadoon
QaraiFar-fetched, far-fetched is what you are promised!
Saheeh InternationalHow far, how far, is that which you are promised.
-
23:37
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَبْعُوثِينَ ٣٧
In hiya illa hayatunaaddunya namootu wanahya wamanahnu bimabAAootheen
QaraiThere is nothing but the life of this world: we live and die, and we will not be resurrected.
Saheeh InternationalIt [i.e., life] is not but our worldly life - we die and live, but we will not be resurrected.
-
23:38
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا وَمَا نَحْنُ لَهُۥ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ ٣٨
In huwa illa rajulun iftaraAAala Allahi kathiban wama nahnulahu bimu/mineen
QaraiHe is just a man who has fabricated a lie against Allah, and we will not believe in him.’
Saheeh InternationalHe is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allāh, and we will not believe him."
-
23:39
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرْنِى بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ ٣٩
Qala rabbi onsurnee bimakaththaboon
QaraiHe said, ‘My Lord! Help me, for they impugn me.’
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."
-
23:40
قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِيلٍ لَّيُصْبِحُنَّ نَٰدِمِينَ ٤٠
Qala AAamma qaleelin layusbihunnanadimeen
QaraiSaid He, ‘In a little while they will become regretful.’
Saheeh International[Allāh] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful."
-
23:41
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ غُثَآءً ۚ فَبُعْدًا لِّلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ٤١
Faakhathat-humu assayhatubilhaqqi fajaAAalnahum ghuthaanfabuAAdan lilqawmi aththalimeen
QaraiSo the Cry seized them justly and We turned them into a scum. So away with the wrongdoing lot!
Saheeh InternationalSo the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people.
-
23:42
ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ قُرُونًا ءَاخَرِينَ ٤٢
Thumma ansha/na min baAAdihimquroonan akhareen
QaraiThen after them We brought forth other generations.
Saheeh InternationalThen We produced after them other generations.
-
23:43
مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَْٔخِرُونَ ٤٣
Ma tasbiqu min ommatin ajalahawama yasta/khiroon
QaraiNo nation can advance its time nor can it defer it.
Saheeh InternationalNo nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter].
-
23:44
ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتْرَا ۖ كُلَّ مَا جَآءَ أُمَّةً رَّسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُ ۚ فَأَتْبَعْنَا بَعْضَهُم بَعْضًا وَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ أَحَادِيثَ ۚ فَبُعْدًا لِّقَوْمٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ ٤٤
Thumma arsalna rusulana tatrakulla ma jaa ommatan rasooluha kaththaboohufaatbaAAna baAAdahum baAAdan wajaAAalnahumahadeetha fabuAAdan liqawmin la yu/minoon
QaraiThen We sent Our apostles successively. Whenever there came to a nation its apostle, they impugned him, so We made them follow one another [to extinction] and We turned them into folktales. So away with the faithless lot!
Saheeh InternationalThen We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe.
-
23:45
ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَأَخَاهُ هَٰرُونَ بَِٔايَٰتِنَا وَسُلْطَٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ ٤٥
Thumma arsalna moosa waakhahuharoona bi-ayatina wasultaninmubeen
QaraiThen We sent Moses and Aaron, his brother, with Our signs and a manifest authority
Saheeh InternationalThen We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a clear authority
-
23:46
إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا عَالِينَ ٤٦
Ila firAAawna wamala-ihi fastakbaroowakanoo qawman AAaleen
Qaraito Pharaoh and his elites; but they acted arrogantly and they were a tyrannical lot.
Saheeh InternationalTo Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people.
-
23:47
فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ لِبَشَرَيْنِ مِثْلِنَا وَقَوْمُهُمَا لَنَا عَٰبِدُونَ ٤٧
Faqaloo anu/minu libasharayni mithlinawaqawmuhuma lana AAabidoon
QaraiThey said, ‘Shall we believe two humans like ourselves, while their people are our slaves?’
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?"
-
23:48
فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَكَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْمُهْلَكِينَ ٤٨
Fakaththaboohuma fakanoomina almuhlakeen
QaraiSo they impugned the two of them, whereat they were among those who were destroyed.
Saheeh InternationalSo they denied them and were of those destroyed.
-
23:49
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَٰبَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ ٤٩
Walaqad atayna moosaalkitaba laAAallahum yahtadoon
QaraiCertainly We gave Moses the Book so that they might be guided,
Saheeh InternationalAnd We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided.

23:50
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥٓ ءَايَةً وَءَاوَيْنَٰهُمَآ إِلَىٰ رَبْوَةٍ ذَاتِ قَرَارٍ وَمَعِينٍ ٥٠
WajaAAalna ibna maryama waommahu ayatanwaawaynahuma ila rabwatin thatiqararin wamaAAeen
Qaraiand We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and sheltered them in a level highland with flowing water.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water.
-
23:51
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلرُّسُلُ كُلُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِ وَٱعْمَلُوا۟ صَٰلِحًا ۖ إِنِّى بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ عَلِيمٌ ٥١
Ya ayyuha arrusulukuloo mina attayyibati waAAmaloo salihaninnee bima taAAmaloona AAaleem
QaraiO apostles! Eat of the good things and act righteously. Indeed I know best what you do.
Saheeh International[Allāh said], "O messengers, eat from the good foods and work righteousness. Indeed I, of what you do, am Knowing.
-
23:52
وَإِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦٓ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمْ فَٱتَّقُونِ ٥٢
Wa-inna hathihi ommatukum ommatan wahidatanwaana rabbukum fattaqoon
QaraiIndeed this community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord, so be wary of Me.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me."
-
23:53
فَتَقَطَّعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَهُم بَيْنَهُمْ زُبُرًا ۖ كُلُّ حِزْبٍۭ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُونَ ٥٣
FataqattaAAoo amrahum baynahumzuburan kullu hizbin bima ladayhim farihoon
QaraiBut they fragmented their religion among themselves, each party boasting about what it had.
Saheeh InternationalBut they [i.e., the people] divided their religion among them into portions [i.e., sects] - each faction, in what it has, rejoicing.
-
23:54
فَذَرْهُمْ فِى غَمْرَتِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ ٥٤
Fatharhum fee ghamratihim hattaheen
QaraiSo leave them in their stupor for a while.
Saheeh InternationalSo leave them in their confusion for a time.
-
23:55
أَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُم بِهِۦ مِن مَّالٍ وَبَنِينَ ٥٥
Ayahsaboona annama numidduhumbihi min malin wabaneen
QaraiDo they suppose that whatever aid We provide them in regard to wealth and children [is because]
Saheeh InternationalDo they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children
-
23:56
نُسَارِعُ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ ۚ بَل لَّا يَشْعُرُونَ ٥٦
NusariAAu lahum fee alkhayratibal la yashAAuroon
QaraiWe are eager to bring them good? No, they are not aware!
Saheeh InternationalIs [because] We hasten for them good things? Rather, they do not perceive.
-
23:57
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ خَشْيَةِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ ٥٧
Inna allatheena hum min khashyatirabbihim mushfiqoon
QaraiIndeed those who are apprehensive for the fear of their Lord,
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord
-
23:58
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بَِٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ ٥٨
Wallatheena hum bi-ayatirabbihim yu/minoon
Qaraiand believe in the signs of their Lord,
Saheeh InternationalAnd they who believe in the signs of their Lord
-
23:59
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِرَبِّهِمْ لَا يُشْرِكُونَ ٥٩
Wallatheena hum birabbihim layushrikoon
Qaraiand do not ascribe partners to their Lord;
Saheeh InternationalAnd they who do not associate anything with their Lord
-
23:60
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَآ ءَاتَوا۟ وَّقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ رَٰجِعُونَ ٦٠
Wallatheena yu/toona maataw waquloobuhum wajilatun annahum ila rabbihim rajiAAoon
Qaraiwho give whatever they give while their hearts tremble with awe that they are going to return to their Lord
Saheeh InternationalAnd they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord -
-
23:61
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِى ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ وَهُمْ لَهَا سَٰبِقُونَ ٦١
Ola-ika yusariAAoona feealkhayrati wahum laha sabiqoon
Qarai—it is they who are zealous in [performing] good works and take the lead in them.
Saheeh InternationalIt is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein.
-
23:62
وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۖ وَلَدَيْنَا كِتَٰبٌ يَنطِقُ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ ٦٢
Wala nukallifu nafsan illawusAAaha waladayna kitabun yantiqu bilhaqqiwahum la yuthlamoon
QaraiWe task no soul except according to its capacity, and with Us is a book that speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We charge no soul except [with that within] its capacity, and with Us is a record which speaks with truth; and they will not be wronged.
-
23:63
بَلْ قُلُوبُهُمْ فِى غَمْرَةٍ مِّنْ هَٰذَا وَلَهُمْ أَعْمَٰلٌ مِّن دُونِ ذَٰلِكَ هُمْ لَهَا عَٰمِلُونَ ٦٣
Bal quloobuhum fee ghamratin min hathawalahum aAAmalun min dooni thalika hum lahaAAamiloon
QaraiIndeed, their hearts are in a stupor in regard to this, and there are other deeds besides which they perpetrate.
Saheeh InternationalBut their hearts are covered with confusion over this, and they have [evil] deeds besides that [i.e., disbelief] which they are doing,
-
23:64
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَخَذْنَا مُتْرَفِيهِم بِٱلْعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمْ يَجَْٔرُونَ ٦٤
Hatta itha akhathnamutrafeehim bilAAathabi itha hum yaj-aroon
QaraiWhen We seize their affluent ones with punishment, behold, they make entreaties [to Us].
Saheeh InternationalUntil when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, at once they are crying [to Allāh] for help.
-
23:65
لَا تَجَْٔرُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ إِنَّكُم مِّنَّا لَا تُنصَرُونَ ٦٥
La taj-aroo alyawma innakum minnala tunsaroon
Qarai‘Do not make entreaties today! Indeed, you will not receive any help from Us.
Saheeh InternationalDo not cry out today. Indeed, by Us you will not be helped.
-
23:66
قَدْ كَانَتْ ءَايَٰتِى تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنتُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَعْقَٰبِكُمْ تَنكِصُونَ ٦٦
Qad kanat ayatee tutlaAAalaykum fakuntum AAala aAAqabikum tankisoon
QaraiCertainly My signs used to be recited to you, but you used to take to your heels,
Saheeh InternationalMy verses had already been recited to you, but you were turning back on your heels
-
23:67
مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ بِهِۦ سَٰمِرًا تَهْجُرُونَ ٦٧
Mustakbireena bihi samiran tahjuroon
Qaraibeing disdainful of it, talking nonsense in your nightly sessions.’
Saheeh InternationalIn arrogance regarding it, conversing by night, speaking evil.
-
23:68
أَفَلَمْ يَدَّبَّرُوا۟ ٱلْقَوْلَ أَمْ جَآءَهُم مَّا لَمْ يَأْتِ ءَابَآءَهُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ٦٨
Afalam yaddabbaroo alqawla am jaahumma lam ya/ti abaahumu al-awwaleen
QaraiHave they not contemplated the Discourse, or has anything come to them [in it] that did not come to their forefathers?
Saheeh InternationalThen have they not reflected over the word [i.e., the Qur’ān], or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers?
-
23:69
أَمْ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا۟ رَسُولَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ ٦٩
Am lam yaAArifoo rasoolahum fahum lahumunkiroon
QaraiIs it that they do not recognize their apostle, and so they deny him?
Saheeh InternationalOr did they not know their Messenger, so they are toward him disacknowledging?
-
23:70
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ بِهِۦ جِنَّةٌۢ ۚ بَلْ جَآءَهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ لِلْحَقِّ كَٰرِهُونَ ٧٠
Am yaqooloona bihi jinnatun bal jaahumbilhaqqi waaktharuhum lilhaqqi karihoon
QaraiDo they say, ‘There is madness in him’? No, he has brought them the truth, and most of them are averse to the truth.
Saheeh InternationalOr do they say, "In him is madness"? Rather, he brought them the truth, but most of them, to the truth, are averse.
-
23:71
وَلَوِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلْحَقُّ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ لَفَسَدَتِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّ ۚ بَلْ أَتَيْنَٰهُم بِذِكْرِهِمْ فَهُمْ عَن ذِكْرِهِم مُّعْرِضُونَ ٧١
Walawi ittabaAAa alhaqqu ahwaahumlafasadati assamawatu wal-arduwaman feehinna bal ataynahum bithikrihim fahum AAanthikrihim muAAridoon
QaraiHad the truth followed their desires, the heavens and the earth would have surely fallen apart [along] with those who are in them. Indeed, We have brought them their Reminder, but they are disregardful of their Reminder.
Saheeh InternationalBut if the Truth [i.e., Allāh] had followed their inclinations, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been ruined. Rather, We have brought them their message, but they, from their message, are turning away.
-
23:72
أَمْ تَسَْٔلُهُمْ خَرْجًا فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ ۖ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ ٧٢
Am tas-aluhum kharjan fakharajurabbika khayrun wahuwa khayru arraziqeen
QaraiDo you ask a recompense from them? Your Lord’s recompense is better, and He is the best of providers.
Saheeh InternationalOr do you, [O Muḥammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers.
-
23:73
وَإِنَّكَ لَتَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ ٧٣
Wa-innaka latadAAoohum ila siratinmustaqeem
QaraiIndeed you invite them to a straight path,
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, you invite them to a straight path.
-
23:74
وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلَْٔاخِرَةِ عَنِ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ لَنَٰكِبُونَ ٧٤
Wa-inna allatheena layu/minoona bil-akhirati AAani assiratilanakiboon
Qaraiand those who do not believe in the Hereafter surely deviate from the path.
Saheeh InternationalBut indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviating from the path.
-
23:75
۞ وَلَوْ رَحِمْنَٰهُمْ وَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرٍّ لَّلَجُّوا۟ فِى طُغْيَٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ ٧٥
Walaw rahimnahum wakashafnama bihim min durrin lalajjoo fee tughyanihimyaAAmahoon
QaraiShould We have mercy upon them and remove their distress, they would surely persist, bewildered in their rebellion.
Saheeh InternationalAnd even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly.
-
23:76
وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَٰهُم بِٱلْعَذَابِ فَمَا ٱسْتَكَانُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ ٧٦
Walaqad akhathnahum bilAAathabifama istakanoo lirabbihim wama yatadarraAAoon
QaraiWe have already seized them with punishment, yet they did not humble themselves before their Lord, nor will they entreat [Him for mercy]
Saheeh InternationalAnd We had gripped them with suffering [as a warning], but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate, [and will continue thus]
-
23:77
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا ذَا عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ إِذَا هُمْ فِيهِ مُبْلِسُونَ ٧٧
Hatta itha fatahnaAAalayhim baban tha AAathabin shadeedin ithahum feehi mublisoon
Qaraiuntil We open on them the gate of a severe punishment, whereupon they will be despondent in it.
Saheeh InternationalUntil when We have opened before them a door of severe punishment, immediately they will be therein in despair.
-
23:78
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْأَبْصَٰرَ وَٱلْأَفِْٔدَةَ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ ٧٨
Wahuwa allathee anshaa lakumu assamAAawal-absara wal-af-idata qaleelan matashkuroon
QaraiIt is He who made for you hearing, eyesight, and hearts. Little do you thank.
Saheeh InternationalAnd it is He who produced for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect]; little are you grateful.
-
23:79
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى ذَرَأَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ ٧٩
Wahuwa allathee tharaakum feeal-ardi wa-ilayhi tuhsharoon
QaraiIt is He who created you on the earth, and you will be mustered toward Him.
Saheeh InternationalAnd it is He who has multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.
-
23:80
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ وَلَهُ ٱخْتِلَٰفُ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ ٨٠
Wahuwa allathee yuhyeewayumeetu walahu ikhtilafu allayli wannahariafala taAAqiloon
QaraiAnd it is He who gives life and brings death, and due to Him is the alternation of day and night. Do you not exercise your reason?
Saheeh InternationalAnd it is He who gives life and causes death, and His is the alternation of the night and the day. Then will you not reason?
-
23:81
بَلْ قَالُوا۟ مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ ٨١
Bal qaloo mithla ma qalaal-awwaloon
QaraiIndeed, they say, just like what the former peoples said.
Saheeh InternationalRather, they say like what the former peoples said.
-
23:82
قَالُوٓا۟ أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ ٨٢
Qaloo a-itha mitnawakunna turaban waAAithamana-inna lamabAAoothoon
QaraiThey said, ‘What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we be resurrected?
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
-
23:83
لَقَدْ وُعِدْنَا نَحْنُ وَءَابَآؤُنَا هَٰذَا مِن قَبْلُ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ٨٣
Laqad wuAAidna nahnu waabaonahatha min qablu in hatha illa asateerual-awwaleen
QaraiCertainly, we and our fathers were promised this before. [But] these are nothing but myths of the ancients.’
Saheeh InternationalWe have been promised this, we and our forefathers, before; this is not but legends of the former peoples."
-
23:84
قُل لِّمَنِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ ٨٤
Qul limani al-ardu waman feehain kuntum taAAlamoon
QaraiSay, ‘To whom does the earth belong and whoever it contains, if you know?’
Saheeh InternationalSay, [O Muḥammad], "To whom belongs the earth and whoever is in it, if you should know?"
-
23:85
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ٨٥
Sayaqooloona lillahi qul afalatathakkaroon
QaraiThey will say, ‘To Allah.’ Say, ‘Will you not then take admonition?’
Saheeh InternationalThey will say, "To Allāh." Say, "Then will you not remember?"
-
23:86
قُلْ مَن رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ ٱلسَّبْعِ وَرَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ٨٦
Qul man rabbu assamawatiassabAAi warabbu alAAarshi alAAatheem
QaraiSay, ‘Who is the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Great Throne?’
Saheeh InternationalSay, "Who is Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne?"
-
23:87
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ٨٧
Sayaqooloona lillahi qul afalatattaqoon
QaraiThey will say, ‘[They belong] to Allah.’ Say, ‘Will you not then be wary [of Him]?’
Saheeh InternationalThey will say, "[They belong] to Allāh." Say, "Then will you not fear Him?"
-
23:88
قُلْ مَنۢ بِيَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَهُوَ يُجِيرُ وَلَا يُجَارُ عَلَيْهِ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ ٨٨
Qul man biyadihi malakootu kulli shay-inwahuwa yujeeru wala yujaru AAalayhi in kuntumtaAAlamoon
QaraiSay, ‘In whose hand is the dominion of all things, and who gives shelter and no shelter can be provided from Him, if you know?’
Saheeh InternationalSay, "In whose hand is the realm of all things - and He protects while none can protect against Him - if you should know?"
-
23:89
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ فَأَنَّىٰ تُسْحَرُونَ ٨٩
Sayaqooloona lillahi qul faannatusharoon
QaraiThey will say, ‘[They all belong] to Allah.’ Say, ‘Then how are you so deluded?’
Saheeh InternationalThey will say, "[All belongs] to Allāh." Say, "Then how are you deluded?"
-
23:90
بَلْ أَتَيْنَٰهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ ٩٠
Bal ataynahum bilhaqqiwa-innahum lakathiboon
QaraiIndeed, We have brought them the truth, and they are indeed liars.
Saheeh InternationalRather, We have brought them the truth, and indeed they are liars.
-
23:91
مَا ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِن وَلَدٍ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُۥ مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ ۚ إِذًا لَّذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَٰهٍۭ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۚ سُبْحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ ٩١
Ma ittakhatha Allahumin waladin wama kana maAAahu min ilahin ithanlathahaba kullu ilahin bima khalaqa walaAAalabaAAduhum AAala baAAdin subhana AllahiAAamma yasifoon
QaraiAllah has not taken any offspring, neither is there any god besides Him, for then each god would take away what he created, and some of them would surely rise up against others. Clear is Allah of what they allege!
Saheeh InternationalAllāh has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have [sought to] overcome others. Exalted is Allāh above what they describe [concerning Him].
-
23:92
عَٰلِمِ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ فَتَعَٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ ٩٢
AAalimi alghaybi washshahadatifataAAala AAamma yushrikoon
QaraiThe Knower of the sensible and the Unseen, He is above having any partners that they ascribe [to Him].
Saheeh International[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, so high is He above what they associate [with Him].
-
23:93
قُل رَّبِّ إِمَّا تُرِيَنِّى مَا يُوعَدُونَ ٩٣
Qul rabbi imma turiyannee mayooAAadoon
QaraiSay, ‘My Lord! If You should show me what they are promised,
Saheeh InternationalSay, [O Muḥammad], "My Lord, if You should show me that which they are promised,
-
23:94
رَبِّ فَلَا تَجْعَلْنِى فِى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ٩٤
Rabbi fala tajAAalnee fee alqawmi aththalimeen
Qaraithen do not put me, my Lord, among the wrongdoing lot.’
Saheeh InternationalMy Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people."
-
23:95
وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّرِيَكَ مَا نَعِدُهُمْ لَقَٰدِرُونَ ٩٥
Wa-inna AAala an nuriyaka manaAAiduhum laqadiroon
QaraiWe are indeed able to show you what We promise them.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, We are Able to show you what We have promised them.
-
23:96
ٱدْفَعْ بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ ۚ نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَصِفُونَ ٩٦
IdfaAA billatee hiya ahsanu assayyi-atanahnu aAAlamu bima yasifoon
QaraiRepel ill [conduct] with that which is the best. We know best whatever they allege.
Saheeh InternationalRepel, by [means of] what is best, [their] evil. We are most knowing of what they describe.
-
23:97
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَٰتِ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ ٩٧
Waqul rabbi aAAoothu bika min hamazatiashshayateen
QaraiSay, ‘My Lord! I seek Your protection from the promptings of devils,
Saheeh InternationalAnd say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils,
-
23:98
وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن يَحْضُرُونِ ٩٨
WaaAAoothu bika rabbi an yahduroon
Qaraiand I seek Your protection, my Lord, from their presence near me.’
Saheeh InternationalAnd I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me."
-
23:99
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ٱرْجِعُونِ ٩٩
Hatta itha jaa ahadahumualmawtu qala rabbi irjiAAoon
QaraiWhen death comes to one of them, he says, ‘My Lord! Take me back,
Saheeh International[For such is the state of the disbelievers] until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back

23:100
لَعَلِّىٓ أَعْمَلُ صَٰلِحًا فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ ۚ كَلَّآ ۚ إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَآئِلُهَا ۖ وَمِن وَرَآئِهِم بَرْزَخٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ ١٠٠
LaAAallee aAAmalu salihanfeema taraktu kalla innaha kalimatun huwa qa-iluhawamin wara-ihim barzakhun ila yawmi yubAAathoon
Qaraithat I may act righteously in what I have left behind.’ ‘By no means! These are mere words that he says.’ And before them is a barrier until the day they will be resurrected.
Saheeh InternationalThat I might do righteousness in that which I left behind." No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.

23:101
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَلَآ أَنسَابَ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَلَا يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ١٠١
Fa-itha nufikha fee assoorifala ansaba baynahum yawma-ithin walayatasaaloon
QaraiWhen the Trumpet is blown, there will be no ties between them on that day, nor will they ask [about] each other.
Saheeh InternationalSo when the Horn is blown, no relationship will there be among them that Day, nor will they ask about one another.
-
23:102
فَمَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ ١٠٢
Faman thaqulat mawazeenuhu faola-ikahumu almuflihoon
QaraiThen those whose deeds weigh heavy in the scales—it is they who are the felicitous.
Saheeh InternationalAnd those whose scales are heavy [with good deeds] - it is they who are the successful.
-
23:103
وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ فِى جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدُونَ ١٠٣
Waman khaffat mawazeenuhu faola-ikaallatheena khasiroo anfusahum fee jahannama khalidoon
QaraiAs for those whose deeds weigh light in the scales—they will be the ones who have ruined their souls, and they will remain in hell [forever].
Saheeh InternationalBut those whose scales are light - those are the ones who have lost their souls, [being] in Hell, abiding eternally.
-
23:104
تَلْفَحُ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَهُمْ فِيهَا كَٰلِحُونَ ١٠٤
Talfahu wujoohahumu annaruwahum feeha kalihoon
QaraiThe Fire will scorch their faces, while they snarl baring their teeth.
Saheeh InternationalThe Fire will sear their faces, and they therein will have taut smiles.

23:105
أَلَمْ تَكُنْ ءَايَٰتِى تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ١٠٥
Alam takun ayatee tutlaAAalaykum fakuntum biha tukaththiboon
Qarai‘Was it not that My signs were recited to you but you would deny them?’
Saheeh International[It will be said], "Were not My verses recited to you and you used to deny them?"

23:106
قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا شِقْوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوْمًا ضَآلِّينَ ١٠٦
Qaloo rabbana ghalabatAAalayna shiqwatuna wakunna qawman dalleen
QaraiThey will say, ‘Our Lord! Our wretchedness overcame us, and we were an astray lot.
Saheeh InternationalThey will say, "Our Lord, our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray.
-
23:107
رَبَّنَآ أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْهَا فَإِنْ عُدْنَا فَإِنَّا ظَٰلِمُونَ ١٠٧
Rabbana akhrijna minhafa-in AAudna fa-inna thalimoon
QaraiOur Lord! Bring us out of this! Then, if we revert [to our previous conduct], we will indeed be wrongdoers.’
Saheeh InternationalOur Lord, remove us from it, and if we were to return [to evil], we would indeed be wrongdoers."
-
23:108
قَالَ ٱخْسَُٔوا۟ فِيهَا وَلَا تُكَلِّمُونِ ١٠٨
Qala ikhsaoo feeha walatukallimoon
QaraiHe will say, ‘Begone in it, and do not speak to Me!
Saheeh InternationalHe will say, "Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me.
-
23:109
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْ عِبَادِى يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا فَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا وَٱرْحَمْنَا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ ١٠٩
Innahu kana fareequn min AAibadeeyaqooloona rabbana amanna faghfirlana warhamna waanta khayru arrahimeen
QaraiIndeed there was a part of My servants who would say, ‘‘Our Lord! We have believed. So forgive us, and have mercy on us, and You are the best of the merciful.’’
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, there was a party of My servants who said, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful.'

23:110
فَٱتَّخَذْتُمُوهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا حَتَّىٰٓ أَنسَوْكُمْ ذِكْرِى وَكُنتُم مِّنْهُمْ تَضْحَكُونَ ١١٠
Fattakhathtumoohumsikhriyyan hatta ansawkum thikree wakuntumminhum tadhakoon
QaraiBut you took them by ridicule until they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them.
Saheeh InternationalBut you took them in mockery to the point that they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them.
-
23:111
إِنِّى جَزَيْتُهُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ هُمُ ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ ١١١
Innee jazaytuhumu alyawma bima sabarooannahum humu alfa-izoon
QaraiIndeed I have rewarded them today for their patience. They are indeed the triumphant.’
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, I have rewarded them this Day for their patient endurance - that they are the attainers [of success]."

23:112
قَٰلَ كَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ عَدَدَ سِنِينَ ١١٢
Qala kam labithtum fee al-ardiAAadada sineen
QaraiHe will say, ‘How many years did you remain on earth?’
Saheeh International[Allāh] will say, "How long did you remain on earth in number of years?"
-
23:113
قَالُوا۟ لَبِثْنَا يَوْمًا أَوْ بَعْضَ يَوْمٍ فَسَْٔلِ ٱلْعَآدِّينَ ١١٣
Qaloo labithna yawman aw baAAdayawmin fas-ali alAAaddeen
QaraiThey will say, ‘We remained for a day, or part of a day; yet ask those who keep the count.’
Saheeh InternationalThey will say, "We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who enumerate."
-
23:114
قَٰلَ إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ۖ لَّوْ أَنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ ١١٤
Qala in labithtum illaqaleelan law annakum kuntum taAAlamoon
QaraiHe will say, ‘You only remained a little; if only you had known.
Saheeh InternationalHe will say, "You stayed not but a little - if only you had known.
-
23:115
أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَٰكُمْ عَبَثًا وَأَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْنَا لَا تُرْجَعُونَ ١١٥
Afahasibtum annama khalaqnakumAAabathan waannakum ilayna la turjaAAoon
QaraiDid you suppose that We created you aimlessly, and that you will not be brought back to Us?’
Saheeh InternationalThen did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?"
-
23:116
فَتَعَٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْكَرِيمِ ١١٦
FataAAala Allahualmaliku alhaqqu la ilaha illa huwarabbu alAAarshi alkareem
QaraiSo exalted is Allah, the True Sovereign, there is no god except Him, the Lord of the Noble Throne.
Saheeh InternationalSo exalted is Allāh, the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.
-
23:117
وَمَن يَدْعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ لَا بُرْهَٰنَ لَهُۥ بِهِۦ فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ ١١٧
Waman yadAAu maAAa Allahi ilahanakhara la burhana lahu bihi fa-innamahisabuhu AAinda rabbihi innahu la yuflihualkafiroon
QaraiWhoever invokes besides Allah another god of which he has no proof, his reckoning will indeed rest with his Lord. Indeed the faithless will not be felicitous.
Saheeh InternationalAnd whoever invokes besides Allāh another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.

23:118
وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱغْفِرْ وَٱرْحَمْ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ ١١٨
Waqul rabbi ighfir warhamwaanta khayru arrahimeen
QaraiSay, ‘My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful.’
Saheeh InternationalAnd, [O Muḥammad], say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful."
