Al-Hijr · The Rocky Tract
99 verses · Revealed in Makkah
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
-
15:1
الٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَقُرْءَانٍ مُّبِينٍ ١
Alif-lam-ra tilka ayatualkitabi waqur-anin mubeen
QaraiAlif, Lam, Ra. These are the signs of the Book and a manifest Quran.
Saheeh InternationalAlif, Lām, Rā. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur’ān [i.e., recitation].
-
15:2
رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ مُسْلِمِينَ ٢
Rubama yawaddu allatheenakafaroo law kanoo muslimeen
QaraiMuch will the faithless wish that they had been Muslims.
Saheeh InternationalPerhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.
-
15:3
ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا۟ وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَيُلْهِهِمُ ٱلْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ ٣
Tharhum ya/kuloo wayatamattaAAoowayulhihimu al-amalu fasawfa yaAAlamoon
QaraiLeave them to eat and enjoy and to be diverted by longings. Soon they will know.
Saheeh InternationalLet them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know.
-
15:4
وَمَآ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَّعْلُومٌ ٤
Wama ahlakna min qaryatin illawalaha kitabun maAAloom
QaraiWe did not destroy any town but that it had a known term.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree.
-
15:5
مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَْٔخِرُونَ ٥
Ma tasbiqu min ommatin ajalahawama yasta/khiroon
QaraiNo nation can advance its time nor can it defer it.
Saheeh InternationalNo nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter.

15:6
وَقَالُوا۟ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِى نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌ ٦
Waqaloo ya ayyuha allatheenuzzila AAalayhi aththikru innaka lamajnoon
QaraiThey said, ‘O you, to whom the Reminder has been sent down, you are indeed crazy.
Saheeh InternationalAnd they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad.
-
15:7
لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ ٧
Law ma ta/teena bilmala-ikatiin kunta mina assadiqeen
QaraiWhy do you not bring us the angels should you be truthful?!’
Saheeh InternationalWhy do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?"
-
15:8
مَا نُنَزِّلُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوٓا۟ إِذًا مُّنظَرِينَ ٨
Ma nunazzilu almala-ikata illabilhaqqi wama kanoo ithan munthareen
QaraiWe do not send down the angels except with due reason, and then they will not be granted any respite.
Saheeh InternationalWe do not send down the angels except with truth; and they [i.e., the disbelievers] would not then be reprieved.
-
15:9
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَٰفِظُونَ ٩
Inna nahnu nazzalna aththikrawa-inna lahu lahafithoon
QaraiIndeed We have sent down the Reminder, and indeed We will preserve it.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, it is We who sent down the message [i.e., the Qur’ān], and indeed, We will be its guardian.
-
15:10
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى شِيَعِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ١٠
Walaqad arsalna min qablika feeshiyaAAi al-awwaleen
QaraiCertainly We sent [apostles] before you to former communities,
Saheeh InternationalAnd We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muḥammad], among the sects of the former peoples.
-
15:11
وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ ١١
Wama ya/teehim min rasoolin illakanoo bihi yastahzi-oon
Qaraiand there did not come to them any apostle but that they used to deride him.
Saheeh InternationalAnd no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him.
-
15:12
كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ ١٢
Kathalika naslukuhu fee quloobialmujrimeen
QaraiThat is how We let it pass through the hearts of the guilty:
Saheeh InternationalThus do We insert it [i.e., denial] into the hearts of the criminals.
-
15:13
لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ١٣
La yu/minoona bihi waqad khalatsunnatu al-awwaleen
Qaraithey do not believe in it, and the precedent of the ancients has already passed.
Saheeh InternationalThey will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples.

15:14
وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَظَلُّوا۟ فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ ١٤
Walaw fatahna AAalayhim babanmina assama-i fathalloo feehiyaAArujoon
QaraiWere We to open for them a gate of the sky, so that they could go on ascending through it,
Saheeh InternationalAnd [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend,
-
15:15
لَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَٰرُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ مَّسْحُورُونَ ١٥
Laqaloo innama sukkirat absarunabal nahnu qawmun mashooroon
Qaraithey would surely say, ‘Indeed a spell has been cast on our eyes; indeed, we are a bewitched lot.’
Saheeh InternationalThey would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic."

15:16
وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ بُرُوجًا وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا لِلنَّٰظِرِينَ ١٦
Walaqad jaAAalna fee assama-iburoojan wazayyannaha linnathireen
QaraiCertainly We have appointed houses in the sky and adorned them for the onlookers,
Saheeh InternationalAnd We have placed within the heaven great stars and have beautified it for the observers.
-
15:17
وَحَفِظْنَٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْطَٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ ١٧
Wahafithnahamin kulli shaytanin rajeem
Qaraiand We have guarded them from every outcast Satan,
Saheeh InternationalAnd We have protected it from every devil expelled [from the mercy of Allāh]
-
15:18
إِلَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَرَقَ ٱلسَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ مُّبِينٌ ١٨
Illa mani istaraqa assamAAafaatbaAAahu shihabun mubeen
Qaraiexcept someone who may eavesdrop, whereat there pursues him a manifest flame.
Saheeh InternationalExcept one who steals a hearing and is pursued by a clear burning flame.

15:19
وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مَّوْزُونٍ ١٩
Wal-arda madadnahawaalqayna feeha rawasiya waanbatnafeeha min kulli shay-in mawzoon
QaraiAnd We spread out the earth, and cast in it firm mountains, and We grew in it every kind of balanced thing,
Saheeh InternationalAnd the earth - We have spread it and cast therein firmly set mountains and caused to grow therein [something] of every well-balanced thing.
-
15:20
وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَٰيِشَ وَمَن لَّسْتُمْ لَهُۥ بِرَٰزِقِينَ ٢٠
WajaAAalna lakum feeha maAAayishawaman lastum lahu biraziqeen
Qaraiand made in it [various] means of livelihood for you and for those whom you do not provide for.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We have made for you therein means of living and [for] those for whom you are not providers.
-
15:21
وَإِن مِّن شَىْءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَآئِنُهُۥ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ ٢١
Wa-in min shay-in illa AAindanakhaza-inuhu wama nunazziluhu illa biqadarinmaAAloom
QaraiThere is not a thing but that its sources are with Us, and We do not send it down except in a known measure.
Saheeh InternationalAnd there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories, and We do not send it down except according to a known [i.e., specified] measure.
-
15:22
وَأَرْسَلْنَا ٱلرِّيَٰحَ لَوَٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَسْقَيْنَٰكُمُوهُ وَمَآ أَنتُمْ لَهُۥ بِخَٰزِنِينَ ٢٢
Waarsalna arriyaha lawaqihafaanzalna mina assama-i maanfaasqaynakumoohu wama antum lahu bikhazineen
QaraiAnd We send the fertilizing winds and send down water from the sky providing it for you to drink and you are not maintainers of its resources.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We have sent the fertilizing winds and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.
-
15:23
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ ٢٣
Wa-inna lanahnu nuhyeewanumeetu wanahnu alwarithoon
QaraiIndeed it is We who give life and bring death and We are the inheritors.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor.
-
15:24
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَْٔخِرِينَ ٢٤
Walaqad AAalimna almustaqdimeenaminkum walaqad AAalimna almusta/khireen
QaraiCertainly We know the predecessors among you and certainly We know the successors,
Saheeh InternationalAnd We have already known the preceding [generations] among you, and We have already known the later [ones to come].
-
15:25
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ ٢٥
Wa-inna rabbaka huwa yahshuruhuminnahu hakeemun AAaleem
Qaraiand indeed it is your Lord who will resurrect them. Indeed, He is all-wise, all-knowing.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, your Lord will gather them; indeed, He is Wise and Knowing.
-
15:26
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ ٢٦
Walaqad khalaqna al-insana minsalsalin min hama-in masnoon
QaraiCertainly We created man out of a dry clay [drawn] from an aging mud,
Saheeh InternationalAnd We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud.
-
15:27
وَٱلْجَآنَّ خَلَقْنَٰهُ مِن قَبْلُ مِن نَّارِ ٱلسَّمُومِ ٢٧
Waljanna khalaqnahumin qablu min nari assamoom
Qaraiand We created the jinn earlier, out of a piercing fire.
Saheeh InternationalAnd the jinn We created before from scorching fire.
-
15:28
وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًا مِّن صَلْصَٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ ٢٨
Wa-ith qala rabbuka lilmala-ikatiinnee khaliqun basharan min salsalin min hama-inmasnoon
QaraiWhen your Lord said to the angels, ‘Indeed I am going to create a human out of a dry clay [drawn] from an aging mud.
Saheeh InternationalAnd [mention, O Muḥammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud.
-
15:29
فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَٰجِدِينَ ٢٩
Fa-itha sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu feehimin roohee faqaAAoo lahu sajideen
QaraiSo when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, then fall down in prostration before him.’
Saheeh InternationalAnd when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."
-
15:30
فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ ٣٠
Fasajada almala-ikatu kulluhumajmaAAoon
QaraiThereat the angels prostrated, all of them together,
Saheeh InternationalSo the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,
-
15:31
إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ ٣١
Illa ibleesa aba an yakoonamaAAa assajideen
Qaraibut not Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated.
Saheeh InternationalExcept Iblees; he refused to be with those who prostrated.
-
15:32
قَالَ يَٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ ٣٢
Qala ya ibleesu ma lakaalla takoona maAAa assajideen
QaraiHe said, ‘O Iblis! What kept you from being among those who have prostrated?’
Saheeh International[Allāh] said, "O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?"
-
15:33
قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ ٣٣
Qala lam akun li-asjuda libasharinkhalaqtahu min salsalin min hama-in masnoon
QaraiSaid he, ‘I will not prostrate before a human whom You have created out of a dry clay [drawn] from an aging mud.’
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud."
-
15:34
قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ ٣٤
Qala fakhruj minhafa-innaka rajeem
QaraiHe said, ‘Begone hence, for you are indeed an outcast,
Saheeh International[Allāh] said, "Then depart from it, for indeed, you are expelled.
-
15:35
وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ ٱللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ ٣٥
Wa-inna AAalayka allaAAnata ila yawmiaddeen
Qaraiand indeed the curse shall lie on you until the Day of Retribution.’
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense."
-
15:36
قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ ٣٦
Qala rabbi faanthirneeila yawmi yubAAathoon
QaraiHe said, ‘My Lord! Respite me till the day they will be resurrected.’
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."
-
15:37
قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ ٣٧
Qala fa-innaka mina almunthareen
QaraiSaid He, ‘You are indeed among the reprieved
Saheeh International[Allāh] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved
-
15:38
إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْوَقْتِ ٱلْمَعْلُومِ ٣٨
Ila yawmi alwaqti almaAAloom
Qaraiuntil the day of the known time.’
Saheeh InternationalUntil the Day of the time well-known."
-
15:39
قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ٣٩
Qala rabbi bima aghwaytaneelaozayyinanna lahum fee al-ardi walaoghwiyannahumajmaAAeen
QaraiHe said, ‘My Lord! As You have consigned me to perversity, I will surely glamorize [evil] for them on the earth, and I will surely pervert them, all
Saheeh International[Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them [i.e., mankind] on earth, and I will mislead them all
-
15:40
إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ ٤٠
Illa AAibadaka minhumualmukhlaseen
Qaraiexcept Your dedicated servants among them.’
Saheeh InternationalExcept, among them, Your chosen servants."
-
15:41
قَالَ هَٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ عَلَىَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ ٤١
Qala hatha siratunAAalayya mustaqeem
QaraiHe said, ‘This is the path [leading] straight to Me.
Saheeh International[Allāh] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight.
-
15:42
إِنَّ عِبَادِى لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَاوِينَ ٤٢
Inna AAibadee laysa laka AAalayhimsultanun illa mani ittabaAAaka mina alghaween
QaraiIndeed, as for My servants you do not have any authority over them, except the perverse who follow you,
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators.
-
15:43
وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ٤٣
Wa-inna jahannama lamawAAiduhum ajmaAAeen
Qaraiand indeed hell is the tryst of them all.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all.
-
15:44
لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَٰبٍ لِّكُلِّ بَابٍ مِّنْهُمْ جُزْءٌ مَّقْسُومٌ ٤٤
Laha sabAAatu abwabin likullibabin minhum juz-on maqsoom
QaraiIt has seven gates, and to each gate belongs a separate portion of them.’
Saheeh InternationalIt has seven gates; for every gate is of them [i.e., Satan's followers] a portion designated."
-
15:45
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ ٤٥
Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatinwaAAuyoon
QaraiIndeed the Godwary will be amid gardens and springs.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, the righteous will be within gardens and springs,
-
15:46
ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَٰمٍ ءَامِنِينَ ٤٦
Odkhulooha bisalamin amineen
Qarai‘‘Enter it in peace and safety!’’
Saheeh International[Having been told], "Enter it in peace, safe [and secure]."
-
15:47
وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ ٤٧
WanazaAAna ma fee sudoorihimmin ghillin ikhwanan AAala sururin mutaqabileen
QaraiWe will remove whatever rancour there is in their breasts; [intimate like] brothers, [they will be reclining] on couches, facing one another.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We will remove whatever is in their breasts of resentment, [so they will be] brothers, on thrones facing each other.
-
15:48
لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌ وَمَا هُم مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ ٤٨
La yamassuhum feeha nasabunwama hum minha bimukhrajeen
QaraiTherein neither weariness shall touch them, nor will they [ever] be expelled from it.
Saheeh InternationalNo fatigue will touch them therein, nor from it will they [ever] be removed.
-
15:49
۞ نَبِّئْ عِبَادِىٓ أَنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ٤٩
Nabbi/ AAibadee annee anaalghafooru arraheem
QaraiInform my servants that I am indeed the All-forgiving, the All-merciful,
Saheeh International[O Muḥammad], inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Merciful,
-
15:50
وَأَنَّ عَذَابِى هُوَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ٱلْأَلِيمُ ٥٠
Waanna AAathabee huwa alAAathabual-aleem
Qaraiand that My punishment is a painful punishment.
Saheeh InternationalAnd that it is My punishment which is the painful punishment.
-
15:51
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٥١
Wanabbi/hum AAan dayfi ibraheem
QaraiAnd inform them about the guests of Abraham,
Saheeh InternationalAnd inform them about the guests of Abraham,
-
15:52
إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَٰمًا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ ٥٢
Ith dakhaloo AAalayhi faqaloosalaman qala inna minkum wajiloon
Qaraiwhen they entered into his presence and said, ‘Peace!’ He said, ‘We are indeed afraid of you.’
Saheeh InternationalWhen they entered upon him and said, "Peace." [Abraham] said, "Indeed, we are fearful [i.e., apprehensive] of you."
-
15:53
قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٍ ٥٣
Qaloo la tawjal innanubashshiruka bighulamin AAaleem
QaraiThey said, ‘Do not be afraid. Indeed we give you the good news of a wise son.’
Saheeh International[The angels] said, "Fear not. Indeed, we give you good tidings of a learned boy."
-
15:54
قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِى عَلَىٰٓ أَن مَّسَّنِىَ ٱلْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ ٥٤
Qala abashshartumoonee AAalaan massaniya alkibaru fabima tubashshiroon
QaraiHe said, ‘Do you give me good news though old age has befallen me? What is the good news that you bring me?’
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "Have you given me good tidings although old age has come upon me? Then of what [wonder] do you inform?"
-
15:55
قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْقَٰنِطِينَ ٥٥
Qaloo bashsharnaka bilhaqqifala takun mina alqaniteen
QaraiThey said, ‘We bring you good news in truth; so do not be despondent.’
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing."
-
15:56
قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٥٦
Qala waman yaqnatu min rahmatirabbihi illa addalloon
QaraiHe said, ‘Who despairs of his Lord’s mercy except the astray?!’
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?"
-
15:57
قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ ٥٧
Qala fama khatbukumayyuha almursaloon
QaraiHe said, ‘O messengers, what is now your errand?’
Saheeh International[Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?"
-
15:58
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ ٥٨
Qaloo inna orsilna ilaqawmin mujrimeen
QaraiThey said, ‘We have been sent toward a guilty people,
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals,
-
15:59
إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ٥٩
Illa ala lootin innalamunajjoohum ajmaAAeen
Qarai[who shall perish] except the family of Lot. We will indeed deliver all of them,
Saheeh InternationalExcept the family of Lot; indeed, we will save them all
-
15:60
إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرْنَآ ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ ٱلْغَٰبِرِينَ ٦٠
Illa imraatahu qaddarna innahalamina alghabireen
Qaraiexcept his wife, [who], We have ordained, will indeed be among those who remain behind.’
Saheeh InternationalExcept his wife." We [i.e., Allāh] decreed that she is of those who remain behind.
-
15:61
فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ ٦١
Falamma jaa ala lootinalmursaloon
QaraiSo when the messengers came to Lot’s family,
Saheeh InternationalAnd when the messengers came to the family of Lot,
-
15:62
قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ ٦٢
Qala innakum qawmun munkaroon
Qaraihe said, ‘You are indeed strangers [to me].’
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "Indeed, you are people unknown."
-
15:63
قَالُوا۟ بَلْ جِئْنَٰكَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ ٦٣
Qaloo bal ji/naka bimakanoo feehi yamtaroon
QaraiThey said, ‘Indeed, we bring you what they used to doubt.
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing,
-
15:64
وَأَتَيْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَٰدِقُونَ ٦٤
Waataynaka bilhaqqiwa-inna lasadiqoon
QaraiWe bring you the truth, and indeed, we speak truly.
Saheeh InternationalAnd we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful.
-
15:65
فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱتَّبِعْ أَدْبَٰرَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ وَٱمْضُوا۟ حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ ٦٥
Faasri bi-ahlika biqitAAin minaallayli wattabiAA adbarahum wala yaltafitminkum ahadun wamdoo haythutu/maroon
QaraiTake your family in a watch of the night; and follow in their rear, and none of you should turn round, and proceed as you are bidden.’
Saheeh InternationalSo set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded."

15:66
وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَقْطُوعٌ مُّصْبِحِينَ ٦٦
Waqadayna ilayhi thalikaal-amra anna dabira haola-i maqtooAAunmusbiheen
QaraiWe apprised him of the matter that these will be rooted out by dawn.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning.
-
15:67
وَجَآءَ أَهْلُ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ ٦٧
Wajaa ahlu almadeenati yastabshiroon
QaraiThe people of the city came, rejoicing.
Saheeh InternationalAnd the people of the city came rejoicing.
-
15:68
قَالَ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ضَيْفِى فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ ٦٨
Qala inna haola-i dayfeefala tafdahoon
QaraiHe said, ‘These are indeed my guests. Do not bring dishonour on me.
Saheeh International[Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me.
-
15:69
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ ٦٩
Wattaqoo Allaha walatukhzoon
QaraiBe wary of Allah and do not humiliate me.’
Saheeh InternationalAnd fear Allāh and do not disgrace me."
-
15:70
قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ ٧٠
Qaloo awa lam nanhaka AAani alAAalameen
QaraiThey said, ‘Did we not forbid you from [defending ] strangers?’
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?"
-
15:71
قَالَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِىٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَٰعِلِينَ ٧١
Qala haola-i banateein kuntum faAAileen
QaraiHe said, ‘These are my daughters, [marry them] if you should do anything.’
Saheeh International[Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]."
-
15:72
لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ ٧٢
LaAAamruka innahum lafee sakratihimyaAAmahoona
QaraiBy your life, they were bewildered in their drunkenness.
Saheeh InternationalBy your life, [O Muḥammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.
-
15:73
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ ٧٣
Faakhathat-humu assayhatumushriqeen
QaraiSo the Cry seized them at sunrise,
Saheeh InternationalSo the shriek seized them at sunrise.
-
15:74
فَجَعَلْنَا عَٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ ٧٤
FajaAAalna AAaliyaha safilahawaamtarna AAalayhim hijaratan minsijjeel
Qaraiand We made its topmost part its nethermost, and rained on them stones of shale.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.
-
15:75
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لََٔايَٰتٍ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ ٧٥
Inna fee thalika laayatinlilmutawassimeen
QaraiThere are indeed signs in that for the percipient.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed in that are signs for those who discern.
-
15:76
وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُّقِيمٍ ٧٦
Wa-innaha labisabeelin muqeem
QaraiIndeed it is on a standing road,
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, they [i.e., those cities] are [situated] on an established road.
-
15:77
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لََٔايَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٧٧
Inna fee thalika laayatanlilmu/mineen
Qaraiand there is indeed a sign in that for the faithful.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed in that is a sign for the believers.
-
15:78
وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ لَظَٰلِمِينَ ٧٨
Wa-in kana as-habual-aykati lathalimeen
QaraiIndeed the inhabitants of Aykah were [also] wrongdoers.
Saheeh InternationalAnd the companions of the thicket [i.e., the people of Madyan] were [also] wrongdoers,
-
15:79
فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ ٧٩
Fantaqamna minhum wa-innahumalabi-imamin mubeen
QaraiSo We took vengeance on them, and indeed the two of them are on an open highway.
Saheeh InternationalSo We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway.
-
15:80
وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْحِجْرِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ ٨٠
Walaqad kaththaba as-habualhijri almursaleen
QaraiCertainly the inhabitants of Hijr denied the apostles.
Saheeh InternationalAnd certainly did the companions of al-Ḥijr [i.e., the Thamūd] deny the messengers.
-
15:81
وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ ءَايَٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ ٨١
Waataynahum ayatinafakanoo AAanha muAArideen
QaraiWe had given them Our signs but they disregarded them.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We gave them Our signs, but from them they were turning away.
-
15:82
وَكَانُوا۟ يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ ٨٢
Wakanoo yanhitoona mina aljibalibuyootan amineen
QaraiThey used to hew out dwellings from mountains feeling secure.
Saheeh InternationalAnd they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure.
-
15:83
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ ٨٣
Faakhathat-humu assayhatumusbiheen
QaraiSo the Cry seized them at dawn,
Saheeh InternationalBut the shriek seized them at early morning,
-
15:84
فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ ٨٤
Fama aghna AAanhum ma kanooyaksiboon
Qaraiand what they used to earn did not avail them.
Saheeh InternationalSo nothing availed them [from] what they used to earn.
-
15:85
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لََٔاتِيَةٌ ۖ فَٱصْفَحِ ٱلصَّفْحَ ٱلْجَمِيلَ ٨٥
Wama khalaqna assamawatiwal-arda wama baynahuma illabilhaqqi wa-inna assaAAata laatiyatunfasfahi assafhaaljameel
QaraiWe did not create the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them except with consummate wisdom, and indeed the Hour is bound to come. So forbear with a graceful forbearance.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness.

15:86
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلْخَلَّٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ٨٦
Inna rabbaka huwa alkhallaqualAAaleem
QaraiIndeed your Lord is the All-creator, the All-knowing.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, your Lord - He is the Knowing Creator.
-
15:87
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَٰكَ سَبْعًا مِّنَ ٱلْمَثَانِى وَٱلْقُرْءَانَ ٱلْعَظِيمَ ٨٧
Walaqad ataynaka sabAAan minaalmathanee walqur-ana alAAatheem
QaraiCertainly We have given you [the surah of] the seven oft-repeated verses and the great Quran.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We have certainly given you, [O Muḥammad], seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur’ān.
-
15:88
لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَٱخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٨٨
La tamuddanna AAaynayka ila mamattaAAna bihi azwajan minhum wala tahzanAAalayhim wakhfid janahaka lilmu/mineen
QaraiDo not extend your glance toward what We have provided to certain groups of them, and do not grieve for them, and lower your wing to the faithful,
Saheeh InternationalDo not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of them [i.e., the disbelievers], and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing [i.e., show kindness] to the believers.
-
15:89
وَقُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلنَّذِيرُ ٱلْمُبِينُ ٨٩
Waqul innee ana annatheerualmubeen
Qaraiand say, ‘I am indeed a manifest warner [of punishment from God],’
Saheeh InternationalAnd say, "Indeed, I am the clear warner" -
-
15:90
كَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى ٱلْمُقْتَسِمِينَ ٩٠
Kama anzalna AAalaalmuqtasimeen
Qarailike that We sent down upon those who split into bands,
Saheeh InternationalJust as We had revealed [scriptures] to the separators
-
15:91
ٱلَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا۟ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ عِضِينَ ٩١
Allatheena jaAAaloo alqur-anaAAideen
Qaraiwho represented the Quran as magic.
Saheeh InternationalWho have made the Qur’ān into portions.
-
15:92
فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسَْٔلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ٩٢
Fawarabbika lanas-alannahum ajmaAAeen
QaraiBy your Lord, We will question them all
Saheeh InternationalSo by your Lord, We will surely question them all
-
15:93
عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ ٩٣
AAamma kanoo yaAAmaloon
Qaraiconcerning what they used to do.
Saheeh InternationalAbout what they used to do.
-
15:94
فَٱصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ ٩٤
FasdaAA bima tu/maruwaaAArid AAani almushrikeen
QaraiSo proclaim what you have been commanded, and turn away from the polytheists.
Saheeh InternationalThen declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists.
-
15:95
إِنَّا كَفَيْنَٰكَ ٱلْمُسْتَهْزِءِينَ ٩٥
Inna kafaynaka almustahzi-een
QaraiIndeed We will suffice you against the deriders
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers
-
15:96
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ ٩٦
Allatheena yajAAaloona maAAa Allahiilahan akhara fasawfa yaAAlamoon
Qarai—those who set up another deity besides Allah. Soon they will know!
Saheeh InternationalWho make [equal] with Allāh another deity. But they are going to know.
-
15:97
وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ ٩٧
Walaqad naAAlamu annaka yadeequ sadrukabima yaqooloon
QaraiCertainly We know that you become upset because of what they say.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say.
-
15:98
فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ ٩٨
Fasabbih bihamdi rabbika wakunmina assajideen
QaraiSo celebrate the praise of your Lord and be among those who prostrate,
Saheeh InternationalSo exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him].
-
15:99
وَٱعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ ٱلْيَقِينُ ٩٩
WaAAbud rabbaka hattaya/tiyaka alyaqeen
Qaraiand worship your Lord until certainty comes to you.
Saheeh InternationalAnd worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty [i.e., death].
