Al-'Alaq · The Clot

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 96:1

   ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ۝١

   QaraiRead in the Name of your Lord who created;

2. 96:2

   خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ ۝٢

   Qaraicreated man from a clinging mass.

3. 96:3

   ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ ۝٣

   QaraiRead, and your Lord is the most generous,

4. 96:4

   ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ ۝٤

   Qaraiwho taught by the pen,

5. 96:5

   عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ ۝٥

   Qaraitaught man what he did not know.

6. 96:6

   كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ ۝٦

   QaraiIndeed man becomes rebellious

7. 96:7

   أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ ۝٧

   Qaraiwhen he considers himself without need.

8. 96:8

   إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ ۝٨

   QaraiIndeed to your Lord is the return.

9. 96:9

   أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ ۝٩

   QaraiTell me, he who forbids

10. 96:10

    عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ ۝١٠

    Qaraia servant when he prays,

11. 96:11

    أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ۝١١

    Qaraitell me, should he be on [true] guidance,

12. 96:12

    أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ ۝١٢

    Qaraior bid [others] to Godwariness,

13. 96:13

    أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ ۝١٣

    Qaraitell me, should he call him a liar and turn away

14. 96:14

    أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ ۝١٤

    Qarai—does he not know that Allah sees [him]?

15. 96:15

    كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ ۝١٥

    QaraiNo indeed! If he does not cease, We shall seize him by the forelock,

16. 96:16

    نَاصِيَةٍ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ ۝١٦

    Qaraia lying, sinful forelock!

17. 96:17

    فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ ۝١٧

    QaraiThen let him call out his gang!

18. 96:18

    سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ ۝١٨

    QaraiWe [too] shall call the keepers of hell.

19. 96:19

    كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ۩ ۝١٩

    QaraiNo indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate and draw near [to Allah]!
