Kufe ka aur shaam ka manzar
added by Abbas
kufe ka aur shaam ka manzar
The scene of Kufa and of Shaam (Damascus)…
yaad jab aajata hai baba, dil mera phat jaata hai baba,
kufe ka aur shaam ka manzar
When it comes back to me, oh Father, my heart tears apart, oh Father
the scene of Kufa and of Shaam…
kabr pe shabbir ki karte the abid bhuka,
hogayi kya kya jafa, suniye shahe karbela,
sar pe kisi ke na thi chadar
yaad jab aajata hai baba, dil mera phat jaata hai baba,
kufe ka aur shaam ka manzar
Abid (Sajjad as) would grieve at the grave of Shabbir (Husayn as)
What cruelties were inflicted, hear them, O King of Karbala (Husayn as)!
not one of them had a veil left over her head!
When it comes back to me, oh Father, my heart tears apart, oh Father
the scene of Kufa and of Shaam…
ek rasan me bandhe chote baro ke gale,
barsare darbar sab is tarha laaye gaye,
kothe se barsaat the pathar,
dil mera phat jaata hai baba,
yaad jab aajata hai baba, dil mera phat jaata hai baba,
kufe ka aur shaam ka manzar
Young and old, their necks all bound together in a single rope
they were all paraded into the court like this
while stones rained down on them from the rooftops!
my heart tears apart, oh Father…
When it comes back to me, oh Father, my heart tears apart, oh Father
the scene of Kufa and of Shaam…
kufe ke baazar me majma-e kafar me,
ek tamasha sa tha, aale sitam gaar me,
ayse me maa behne khule sar,
yaad jab aajata hai baba, dil mera phat jaata hai baba,
kufe ka aur shaam ka manzar
In the marketplace of Kufa, in that crowd of disbelievers
it was like a spectacle, staged by the household of the oppressor
and through all of it, mothers and sisters with their heads left bare!
When it comes back to me, oh Father, my heart tears apart, oh Father
the scene of Kufa and of Shaam…
tok se hargis na tha baba mera sar juka,
hath kari aur beri ka koi muje gham na tha,
arey dekha nahi jata tha manzar,
yaad jab aajata hai baba, dil mera phat jaata hai baba,
kufe ka aur shaam ka manzar
It was never out of disgrace that my head was bowed, oh Father
the handcuffs and the shackles caused me no sorrow at all
but oh, that scene was something I simply could not bear to watch!
When it comes back to me, oh Father, my heart tears apart, oh Father
the scene of Kufa and of Shaam…
arey bali sakina ka gham dil ye nahi bhul ta,
sab ke the shaane bandhe uska bandha tha galaa,
arey dard se wo roti thi mustar,
yaad jab aajata hai baba, dil mera phat jaata hai baba,
kufe ka aur shaam ka manzar
oh, my heart can never forget the grief of little Sakina (as)
everyone else was bound at the shoulders, but her, they bound at the throat
oh, she wept from the pain, utterly helpless!
When it comes back to me, oh Father, my heart tears apart, oh Father
the scene of Kufa and of Shaam…
maktalo tarikh ki kar na sake hak ada,
likha ani se hazi girya-e abid kiya,
arey kahte the ye abide muztar,
yaad jab aajata hai baba, dil mera phat jaata hai baba,
kufe ka aur shaam ka manzar
Neither the accounts of the massacre nor history itself could ever do it justice
whatever the pen set down only captured the weeping of Abid (Sajjad as)
oh, this is what the anguished Abid (Sajjad as) would say.
When it comes back to me, oh Father, my heart tears apart, oh Father
the scene of Kufa and of Shaam…
