At-Tur · The Mount

49 verses · Revealed in Makkah

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 52:1

   وَٱلطُّورِ ۝١

   QaraiBy the Mount [Sinai],

2. 52:2

   وَكِتَٰبٍ مَّسْطُورٍ ۝٢

   Qaraiby the Book inscribed

3. 52:3

   فِى رَقٍّ مَّنشُورٍ ۝٣

   Qaraion an unrolled parchment;

4. 52:4

   وَٱلْبَيْتِ ٱلْمَعْمُورِ ۝٤

   Qaraiby the House greatly frequented;

5. 52:5

   وَٱلسَّقْفِ ٱلْمَرْفُوعِ ۝٥

   Qaraiby the vault raised high,

6. 52:6

   وَٱلْبَحْرِ ٱلْمَسْجُورِ ۝٦

   Qaraiby the surging sea:

7. 52:7

   إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَٰقِعٌ ۝٧

   Qaraiindeed your Lord’s punishment will surely befall.

8. 52:8

   مَّا لَهُۥ مِن دَافِعٍ ۝٨

   QaraiThere is none who can avert it.

9. 52:9

   يَوْمَ تَمُورُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ مَوْرًا ۝٩

   QaraiOn the day when the sky whirls violently,

10. 52:10

    وَتَسِيرُ ٱلْجِبَالُ سَيْرًا ۝١٠

    Qaraiand the mountains move with an awful motion:

11. 52:11

    فَوَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ۝١١

    Qaraiwoe to the deniers on that day

12. 52:12

    ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى خَوْضٍ يَلْعَبُونَ ۝١٢

    Qarai—those who play around in vain talk,

13. 52:13

    يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا ۝١٣

    Qaraithe day when they will be shoved forcibly toward the fire of hell, [and told:]

14. 52:14

    هَٰذِهِ ٱلنَّارُ ٱلَّتِى كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝١٤

    Qarai‘This is the Fire which you used to deny!

15. 52:15

    أَفَسِحْرٌ هَٰذَآ أَمْ أَنتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ ۝١٥

    QaraiIs this, then, [also] magic, or is it you who do not perceive?

16. 52:16

    ٱصْلَوْهَا فَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُوا۟ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ۝١٦

    QaraiEnter it, and it will be the same for you whether you are patient or impatient. You are only being requited for what you used to do.’

17. 52:17

    إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍ وَنَعِيمٍ ۝١٧

    QaraiIndeed the Godwary will be amid gardens and bliss,

18. 52:18

    فَٰكِهِينَ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ ۝١٨

    Qarairejoicing because of what their Lord has given them, and that their Lord has saved them from the punishment of hell.

19. 52:19

    كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيًٓٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ۝١٩

    Qarai[They will be told:] ‘Enjoy your food and drink, [as a reward] for what you used to do.’

20. 52:20

    مُتَّكِِٔينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّصْفُوفَةٍ ۖ وَزَوَّجْنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ ۝٢٠

    QaraiThey will be reclining on arrayed couches, and We will wed them to big-eyed houris.

21. 52:21

    وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُم بِإِيمَٰنٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَآ أَلَتْنَٰهُم مِّنْ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ ۚ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ ۝٢١

    QaraiThe faithful and their descendants who followed them in faith—We will make their descendants join them, and We will not stint anything from [the reward of] their deeds. Every person is hostage to what he has earned.

22. 52:22

    وَأَمْدَدْنَٰهُم بِفَٰكِهَةٍ وَلَحْمٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ ۝٢٢

    QaraiWe will provide them with fruits and meat, such as they desire.

23. 52:23

    يَتَنَٰزَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا لَّا لَغْوٌ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌ ۝٢٣

    QaraiThere they will pass from hand to hand a cup wherein there will be neither any vain talk nor sinful speech.

24. 52:24

    ۞ وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌ لَّهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌ مَّكْنُونٌ ۝٢٤

    QaraiThey will be waited upon by their youths, as if they were guarded pearls.

25. 52:25

    وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ۝٢٥

    QaraiThey will turn to one another, questioning each other.

26. 52:26

    قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِىٓ أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ ۝٢٦

    QaraiThey will say, ‘Indeed, aforetime, we used to be apprehensive about our families.

27. 52:27

    فَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَىٰنَا عَذَابَ ٱلسَّمُومِ ۝٢٧

    QaraiBut Allah showed us favour and He saved us from the punishment of the [infernal] miasma.

28. 52:28

    إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْبَرُّ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ۝٢٨

    QaraiWe used to supplicate Him aforetime. Indeed He is the All-benign, the All-merciful.’

29. 52:29

    فَذَكِّرْ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ ۝٢٩

    QaraiSo admonish. By your Lord’s blessing, you are not a soothsayer, nor mad.

30. 52:30

    أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِۦ رَيْبَ ٱلْمَنُونِ ۝٣٠

    QaraiDo they say, ‘[He is] a poet, for whom we await a fatal accident’?

31. 52:31

    قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا۟ فَإِنِّى مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ ۝٣١

    QaraiSay, ‘Wait! I too am waiting along with you.’

32. 52:32

    أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَٰمُهُم بِهَٰذَآ ۚ أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ ۝٣٢

    QaraiIs it their intellect which prompts them to [say] this, or are they a rebellious lot?

33. 52:33

    أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُۥ ۚ بَل لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ ۝٣٣

    QaraiDo they say, ‘He has improvised it [himself]?’ Rather, they have no faith!

34. 52:34

    فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِحَدِيثٍ مِّثْلِهِۦٓ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَٰدِقِينَ ۝٣٤

    QaraiLet them bring a discourse like it, if they are truthful.

35. 52:35

    أَمْ خُلِقُوا۟ مِنْ غَيْرِ شَىْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰلِقُونَ ۝٣٥

    QaraiWere they created from nothing? Or are they [their own] creators?

36. 52:36

    أَمْ خَلَقُوا۟ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ ۚ بَل لَّا يُوقِنُونَ ۝٣٦

    QaraiDid they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they have no certainty!

37. 52:37

    أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْمُصَۣيْطِرُونَ ۝٣٧

    QaraiDo they possess the treasuries of your Lord? Or do they control [them]?

38. 52:38

    أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُم بِسُلْطَٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ ۝٣٨

    QaraiDo they have a ladder [leading up to heaven] whereby they eavesdrop? If so, let their eavesdropper produce a manifest authority.

39. 52:39

    أَمْ لَهُ ٱلْبَنَٰتُ وَلَكُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ ۝٣٩

    QaraiDoes He have daughters while you have sons?

40. 52:40

    أَمْ تَسَْٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ ۝٤٠

    QaraiDo you ask them for a reward, so that they are [wary of] being weighed down with debt?

41. 52:41

    أَمْ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ ۝٤١

    QaraiDo they have [access to] the Unseen, which they write down?

42. 52:42

    أَمْ يُرِيدُونَ كَيْدًا ۖ فَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْمَكِيدُونَ ۝٤٢

    QaraiDo they seek to outmaneuver [Allah]? But it is the faithless who are the outmaneuvered ones!

43. 52:43

    أَمْ لَهُمْ إِلَٰهٌ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ سُبْحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ ۝٤٣

    QaraiDo they have any god other than Allah? Clear is Allah of any partners that they may ascribe [to Him]!

44. 52:44

    وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ كِسْفًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ سَاقِطًا يَقُولُوا۟ سَحَابٌ مَّرْكُومٌ ۝٤٤

    QaraiWere they to see a fragment falling from the sky, they would say, ‘A cumulous cloud.’

45. 52:45

    فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى فِيهِ يُصْعَقُونَ ۝٤٥

    QaraiSo leave them until they encounter the day when they will be thunderstruck,

46. 52:46

    يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَئًْا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ ۝٤٦

    Qaraithe day when their guile will not avail them in any way, nor will they be helped.

47. 52:47

    وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ عَذَابًا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ۝٤٧

    QaraiIndeed there is a punishment besides that for those who do wrong, but most of them do not know.

48. 52:48

    وَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا ۖ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ ۝٤٨

    QaraiSo submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord, for indeed you fare before Our eyes. And celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise [at dawn],

49. 52:49

    وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَإِدْبَٰرَ ٱلنُّجُومِ ۝٤٩

    Qaraiand also glorify Him during the night and at the receding of the stars.
