At-Tur · The Mount

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
-
52:1
وَٱلطُّورِ ١
Wattoor
QaraiBy the Mount [Sinai],
Saheeh InternationalBy the mount
-
52:2
وَكِتَٰبٍ مَّسْطُورٍ ٢
Wakitabin mastoor
Qaraiby the Book inscribed
Saheeh InternationalAnd [by] a Book inscribed
-
52:3
فِى رَقٍّ مَّنشُورٍ ٣
Fee raqqin manshoor
Qaraion an unrolled parchment;
Saheeh InternationalIn parchment spread open
-
52:4
وَٱلْبَيْتِ ٱلْمَعْمُورِ ٤
Walbayti almaAAmoor
Qaraiby the House greatly frequented;
Saheeh InternationalAnd [by] the frequented House
-
52:5
وَٱلسَّقْفِ ٱلْمَرْفُوعِ ٥
Wassaqfi almarfooAA
Qaraiby the vault raised high,
Saheeh InternationalAnd [by] the ceiling [i.e., heaven] raised high
-
52:6
وَٱلْبَحْرِ ٱلْمَسْجُورِ ٦
Walbahri almasjoor
Qaraiby the surging sea:
Saheeh InternationalAnd [by] the sea set on fire,
-
52:7
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَٰقِعٌ ٧
Inna AAathaba rabbika lawaqiAA
Qaraiindeed your Lord’s punishment will surely befall.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur.
-
52:8
مَّا لَهُۥ مِن دَافِعٍ ٨
Ma lahu min dafiAA
QaraiThere is none who can avert it.
Saheeh InternationalOf it there is no preventer.
-
52:9
يَوْمَ تَمُورُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ مَوْرًا ٩
Yawma tamooru assamao mawra
QaraiOn the day when the sky whirls violently,
Saheeh InternationalOn the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion
-
52:10
وَتَسِيرُ ٱلْجِبَالُ سَيْرًا ١٠
Wataseeru aljibalu sayra
Qaraiand the mountains move with an awful motion:
Saheeh InternationalAnd the mountains will pass on, departing -
-
52:11
فَوَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ١١
Fawaylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen
Qaraiwoe to the deniers on that day
Saheeh InternationalThen woe, that Day, to the deniers,
-
52:12
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى خَوْضٍ يَلْعَبُونَ ١٢
Allatheena hum fee khawdinyalAAaboon
Qarai—those who play around in vain talk,
Saheeh InternationalWho are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves.
-
52:13
يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا ١٣
Yawma yudaAAAAoona ila narijahannama daAAAAa
Qaraithe day when they will be shoved forcibly toward the fire of hell, [and told:]
Saheeh InternationalThe Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say],
-
52:14
هَٰذِهِ ٱلنَّارُ ٱلَّتِى كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ١٤
Hathihi annaru allateekuntum biha tukaththiboon
Qarai‘This is the Fire which you used to deny!
Saheeh International"This is the Fire which you used to deny.
-
52:15
أَفَسِحْرٌ هَٰذَآ أَمْ أَنتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ ١٥
Afasihrun hatha am antum latubsiroon
QaraiIs this, then, [also] magic, or is it you who do not perceive?
Saheeh InternationalThen is this magic, or do you not see?
-
52:16
ٱصْلَوْهَا فَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُوا۟ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ١٦
Islawha fasbirooaw la tasbiroo sawaon AAalaykum innamatujzawna ma kuntum taAAmaloon
QaraiEnter it, and it will be the same for you whether you are patient or impatient. You are only being requited for what you used to do.’
Saheeh International[Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do."
-
52:17
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍ وَنَعِيمٍ ١٧
Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatinwanaAAeem
QaraiIndeed the Godwary will be amid gardens and bliss,
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure,
-
52:18
فَٰكِهِينَ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ ١٨
Fakiheena bima atahumrabbuhum wawaqahum rabbuhum AAathaba aljaheem
Qarairejoicing because of what their Lord has given them, and that their Lord has saved them from the punishment of hell.
Saheeh InternationalEnjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire.
-
52:19
كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيًٓٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ١٩
Kuloo washraboo hanee-an bimakuntum taAAmaloon
Qarai[They will be told:] ‘Enjoy your food and drink, [as a reward] for what you used to do.’
Saheeh International[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."

52:20
مُتَّكِِٔينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّصْفُوفَةٍ ۖ وَزَوَّجْنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ ٢٠
Muttaki-eena AAala sururin masfoofatinwazawwajnahum bihoorin AAeen
QaraiThey will be reclining on arrayed couches, and We will wed them to big-eyed houris.
Saheeh InternationalThey will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.
-
52:21
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُم بِإِيمَٰنٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَآ أَلَتْنَٰهُم مِّنْ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ ۚ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ ٢١
Wallatheena amanoo wattabaAAat-humthurriyyatuhum bi-eemanin alhaqnabihim thurriyyatahum wama alatnahum minAAamalihim min shay-in kullu imri-in bima kasaba raheen
QaraiThe faithful and their descendants who followed them in faith—We will make their descendants join them, and We will not stint anything from [the reward of] their deeds. Every person is hostage to what he has earned.
Saheeh InternationalAnd those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained.
-
52:22
وَأَمْدَدْنَٰهُم بِفَٰكِهَةٍ وَلَحْمٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ ٢٢
Waamdadnahum bifakihatin walahminmimma yashtahoon
QaraiWe will provide them with fruits and meat, such as they desire.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire.
-
52:23
يَتَنَٰزَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا لَّا لَغْوٌ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌ ٢٣
YatanazaAAoona feeha ka/san lalaghwun feeha wala ta/theem
QaraiThere they will pass from hand to hand a cup wherein there will be neither any vain talk nor sinful speech.
Saheeh InternationalThey will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin.

52:24
۞ وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌ لَّهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌ مَّكْنُونٌ ٢٤
Wayatoofu AAalayhim ghilmanunlahum kaannahum lu/luon maknoon
QaraiThey will be waited upon by their youths, as if they were guarded pearls.
Saheeh InternationalThere will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected.
-
52:25
وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ٢٥
Waaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatasaaloon
QaraiThey will turn to one another, questioning each other.
Saheeh InternationalAnd they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.
-
52:26
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِىٓ أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ ٢٦
Qaloo inna kunna qablufee ahlina mushfiqeen
QaraiThey will say, ‘Indeed, aforetime, we used to be apprehensive about our families.
Saheeh InternationalThey will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allāh].
-
52:27
فَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَىٰنَا عَذَابَ ٱلسَّمُومِ ٢٧
Famanna Allahu AAalayna wawaqanaAAathaba assamoom
QaraiBut Allah showed us favour and He saved us from the punishment of the [infernal] miasma.
Saheeh InternationalSo Allāh conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire.
-
52:28
إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْبَرُّ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ٢٨
Inna kunna min qablu nadAAoohuinnahu huwa albarru arraheem
QaraiWe used to supplicate Him aforetime. Indeed He is the All-benign, the All-merciful.’
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful."
-
52:29
فَذَكِّرْ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ ٢٩
Fathakkir fama anta biniAAmatirabbika bikahin wala majnoon
QaraiSo admonish. By your Lord’s blessing, you are not a soothsayer, nor mad.
Saheeh InternationalSo remind, [O Muḥammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman.
-
52:30
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِۦ رَيْبَ ٱلْمَنُونِ ٣٠
Am yaqooloona shaAAirun natarabbasubihi rayba almanoon
QaraiDo they say, ‘[He is] a poet, for whom we await a fatal accident’?
Saheeh InternationalOr do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time"?
-
52:31
قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا۟ فَإِنِّى مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ ٣١
Qul tarabbasoo fa-innee maAAakum minaalmutarabbiseen
QaraiSay, ‘Wait! I too am waiting along with you.’
Saheeh InternationalSay, "Wait, for indeed I am, with you, among the waiters."
-
52:32
أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَٰمُهُم بِهَٰذَآ ۚ أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ ٣٢
Am ta/muruhum ahlamuhum bihathaam hum qawmun taghoon
QaraiIs it their intellect which prompts them to [say] this, or are they a rebellious lot?
Saheeh InternationalOr do their minds command them to [say] this, or are they a transgressing people?
-
52:33
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُۥ ۚ بَل لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ ٣٣
Am yaqooloona taqawwalahu bal layu/minoon
QaraiDo they say, ‘He has improvised it [himself]?’ Rather, they have no faith!
Saheeh InternationalOr do they say, "He has made it up"? Rather, they do not believe.
-
52:34
فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِحَدِيثٍ مِّثْلِهِۦٓ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَٰدِقِينَ ٣٤
Falya/too bihadeethin mithlihi in kanoosadiqeena
QaraiLet them bring a discourse like it, if they are truthful.
Saheeh InternationalThen let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful.
-
52:35
أَمْ خُلِقُوا۟ مِنْ غَيْرِ شَىْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰلِقُونَ ٣٥
Am khuliqoo min ghayri shay-in am humu alkhaliqoon
QaraiWere they created from nothing? Or are they [their own] creators?
Saheeh InternationalOr were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]?
-
52:36
أَمْ خَلَقُوا۟ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ ۚ بَل لَّا يُوقِنُونَ ٣٦
Am khalaqoo assamawatiwal-arda bal la yooqinoon
QaraiDid they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they have no certainty!
Saheeh InternationalOr did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain.
-
52:37
أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْمُصَۣيْطِرُونَ ٣٧
Am AAindahum khaza-inu rabbika amhumu almusaytiroon
QaraiDo they possess the treasuries of your Lord? Or do they control [them]?
Saheeh InternationalOr have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]?
-
52:38
أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُم بِسُلْطَٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ ٣٨
Am lahum sullamun yastamiAAoona feehifalya/ti mustamiAAuhum bisultanin mubeen
QaraiDo they have a ladder [leading up to heaven] whereby they eavesdrop? If so, let their eavesdropper produce a manifest authority.
Saheeh InternationalOr have they a stairway [into the heaven] upon which they listen? Then let their listener produce a clear authority [i.e., proof].
-
52:39
أَمْ لَهُ ٱلْبَنَٰتُ وَلَكُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ ٣٩
Am lahu albanatu walakumu albanoon
QaraiDoes He have daughters while you have sons?
Saheeh InternationalOr has He daughters while you have sons?
-
52:40
أَمْ تَسَْٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ ٤٠
Am tas-aluhum ajran fahum min maghraminmuthqaloon
QaraiDo you ask them for a reward, so that they are [wary of] being weighed down with debt?
Saheeh InternationalOr do you, [O Muḥammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down?
-
52:41
أَمْ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ ٤١
Am AAindahumu alghaybu fahum yaktuboon
QaraiDo they have [access to] the Unseen, which they write down?
Saheeh InternationalOr have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down?
-
52:42
أَمْ يُرِيدُونَ كَيْدًا ۖ فَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْمَكِيدُونَ ٤٢
Am yureedoona kaydan fallatheenakafaroo humu almakeedoon
QaraiDo they seek to outmaneuver [Allah]? But it is the faithless who are the outmaneuvered ones!
Saheeh InternationalOr do they intend a plan? But those who disbelieve - they are the object of a plan.
-
52:43
أَمْ لَهُمْ إِلَٰهٌ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ سُبْحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ ٤٣
Am lahum ilahun ghayru Allahisubhana Allahi AAamma yushrikoon
QaraiDo they have any god other than Allah? Clear is Allah of any partners that they may ascribe [to Him]!
Saheeh InternationalOr have they a deity other than Allāh? Exalted is Allāh above whatever they associate with Him.
-
52:44
وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ كِسْفًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ سَاقِطًا يَقُولُوا۟ سَحَابٌ مَّرْكُومٌ ٤٤
Wa-in yaraw kisfan mina assama-isaqitan yaqooloo sahabun markoom
QaraiWere they to see a fragment falling from the sky, they would say, ‘A cumulous cloud.’
Saheeh InternationalAnd if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, "[It is merely] clouds heaped up."
-
52:45
فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى فِيهِ يُصْعَقُونَ ٤٥
Fatharhum hatta yulaqooyawmahumu allathee feehi yusAAaqoon
QaraiSo leave them until they encounter the day when they will be thunderstruck,
Saheeh InternationalSo leave them until they meet their Day in which they will be struck insensible -
-
52:46
يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَئًْا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ ٤٦
Yawma la yughnee AAanhum kayduhumshay-an wala hum yunsaroon
Qaraithe day when their guile will not avail them in any way, nor will they be helped.
Saheeh InternationalThe Day their plan will not avail them at all, nor will they be helped.
-
52:47
وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ عَذَابًا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ٤٧
Wa-inna lillatheena thalamooAAathaban doona thalika walakinna aktharahumla yaAAlamoon
QaraiIndeed there is a punishment besides that for those who do wrong, but most of them do not know.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, for those who have wronged is a punishment before that, but most of them do not know.
-
52:48
وَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا ۖ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ ٤٨
Wasbir lihukmi rabbikafa-innaka bi-aAAyunina wasabbih bihamdirabbika heena taqoom
QaraiSo submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord, for indeed you fare before Our eyes. And celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise [at dawn],
Saheeh InternationalAnd be patient, [O Muḥammad], for the decision of your Lord, for indeed, you are in Our eyes [i.e., sight]. And exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord when you arise
-
52:49
وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَإِدْبَٰرَ ٱلنُّجُومِ ٤٩
Wamina allayli fasabbihhu wa-idbaraannujoom
Qaraiand also glorify Him during the night and at the receding of the stars.
Saheeh InternationalAnd in a part of the night exalt Him and after [the setting of] the stars.
