بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
-
68:1
نٓ ۚ وَٱلْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ ١
Noon walqalami wama yasturoon
QaraiNun. By the Pen and what they write:
Saheeh InternationalNūn. By the pen and what they inscribe,
-
68:2
مَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍ ٢
Ma anta biniAAmati rabbika bimajnoon
Qaraiby your Lord’s blessing, you are not, crazy,
Saheeh InternationalYou are not, [O Muḥammad], by the favor of your Lord, a madman.
-
68:3
وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْرًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍ ٣
Wa-inna laka laajran ghayra mamnoon
Qaraiand yours indeed will be an everlasting reward,
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, for you is a reward uninterrupted.
-
68:4
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ ٤
Wa-innaka laAAala khuluqin AAatheem
Qaraiand indeed you possess a great character.
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, you are of a great moral character.
-
68:5
فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ ٥
Fasatubsiru wayubsiroon
QaraiYou will see and they will see,
Saheeh InternationalSo you will see and they will see
-
68:6
بِأَييِّكُمُ ٱلْمَفْتُونُ ٦
Bi-ayyikumu almaftoon
Qaraiwhich one of you is crazy.
Saheeh InternationalWhich of you is the afflicted [by a devil].
-
68:7
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ ٧
Inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman dallaAAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bilmuhtadeen
QaraiIndeed your Lord knows best those who stray from His way, and He knows best those who are guided.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has gone astray from His way, and He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.
-
68:8
فَلَا تُطِعِ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٨
Fala tutiAAi almukaththibeen
QaraiSo do not obey the deniers,
Saheeh InternationalThen do not obey the deniers.
-
68:9
وَدُّوا۟ لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ ٩
Waddoo law tudhinu fayudhinoon
Qaraiwho are eager that you should be flexible, so that they [too] may be flexible [towards you].
Saheeh InternationalThey wish that you would soften [in your position], so they would soften [toward you].
-
68:10
وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِينٍ ١٠
Wala tutiAA kulla hallafinmaheen
QaraiAnd do not obey any vile swearer,
Saheeh InternationalAnd do not obey every worthless habitual swearer
-
68:11
هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّآءٍۭ بِنَمِيمٍ ١١
Hammazin mashsha-in binameem
Qaraiscandal-monger, talebearer,
Saheeh International[And] scorner, going about with malicious gossip -
-
68:12
مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ ١٢
MannaAAin lilkhayri muAAtadin atheem
Qaraihinderer of all good, sinful transgressor,
Saheeh InternationalA preventer of good, transgressing and sinful,
-
68:13
عُتُلٍّۭ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ زَنِيمٍ ١٣
AAutullin baAAda thalika zaneem
Qaraicallous and, on top of that, baseborn
Saheeh InternationalCruel, moreover, and an illegitimate pretender.
-
68:14
أَن كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ ١٤
An kana tha malinwabaneen
Qarai—[who behaves in such a manner only] because he has wealth and children.
Saheeh InternationalBecause he is a possessor of wealth and children,
-
68:15
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ١٥
Itha tutla AAalayhi ayatunaqala asateeru al-awwaleen
QaraiWhen Our signs are recited to him, he says, ‘Myths of the ancients!’
Saheeh InternationalWhen Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."
-
68:16
سَنَسِمُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلْخُرْطُومِ ١٦
Sanasimuhu AAala alkhurtoom
QaraiSoon We shall brand him on his snout.
Saheeh InternationalWe will brand him upon the snout.
-
68:17
إِنَّا بَلَوْنَٰهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَآ أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا۟ لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ ١٧
Inna balawnahum kamabalawna as-haba aljannati ith aqsamoolayasrimunnaha musbiheen
QaraiIndeed we have tested them just as We tested the People of the Garden when they vowed they would gather its fruit at dawn,
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We have tried them as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the [early] morning
-
68:18
وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ ١٨
Wala yastathnoon
Qaraiand they did not make any exception.
Saheeh InternationalWithout making exception.
-
68:19
فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَآئِفٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَآئِمُونَ ١٩
Fatafa AAalayha ta-ifunmin rabbika wahum na-imoon
QaraiThen, a visitation from your Lord visited it while they were asleep.
Saheeh InternationalSo there came upon it [i.e., the garden] an affliction from your Lord while they were asleep.
-
68:20
فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَٱلصَّرِيمِ ٢٠
Faasbahat kassareem
QaraiSo, by dawn it was like a harvested field.
Saheeh InternationalAnd it became as though reaped.
-
68:21
فَتَنَادَوْا۟ مُصْبِحِينَ ٢١
Fatanadaw musbiheen
QaraiAt dawn they called out to one another,
Saheeh InternationalAnd they called one another at morning,
-
68:22
أَنِ ٱغْدُوا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْثِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰرِمِينَ ٢٢
Ani ighdoo AAala harthikum inkuntum sarimeen
Qarai‘Get off early to your field if you have to gather [the fruits].’
Saheeh International[Saying], "Go early to your crop if you would cut the fruit."
-
68:23
فَٱنطَلَقُوا۟ وَهُمْ يَتَخَٰفَتُونَ ٢٣
Fantalaqoo wahum yatakhafatoon
QaraiSo off they went, murmuring to one another:
Saheeh InternationalSo they set out, while lowering their voices,
-
68:24
أَن لَّا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم مِّسْكِينٌ ٢٤
An la yadkhulannaha alyawmaAAalaykum miskeen
Qarai‘Today no needy man shall come to you in it.’
Saheeh International[Saying], "There will surely not enter it today upon you [any] poor person."
-
68:25
وَغَدَوْا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْدٍ قَٰدِرِينَ ٢٥
Waghadaw AAala hardin qadireen
QaraiAnd they set out at early morning, [considering themselves] able to deprive [the poor of its fruit].
Saheeh InternationalAnd they went early in determination, [assuming themselves] able.
-
68:26
فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا لَضَآلُّونَ ٢٦
Falamma raawha qalooinna ladalloon
QaraiBut when they saw it, they said, ‘We have indeed lost our way!’
Saheeh InternationalBut when they saw it, they said, "Indeed, we are lost;
-
68:27
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ ٢٧
Bal nahnu mahroomoon
Qarai‘No, it is we who have been deprived!’
Saheeh InternationalRather, we have been deprived."
-
68:28
قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ ٢٨
Qala awsatuhum alam aqul lakumlawla tusabbihoon
QaraiThe most upright among them said, ‘Did I not tell you, ‘‘Why do you not glorify [Allah]?’’ ’
Saheeh InternationalThe most moderate of them said, "Did I not say to you, 'Why do you not exalt [Allāh]?'"
-
68:29
قَالُوا۟ سُبْحَٰنَ رَبِّنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ ٢٩
Qaloo subhana rabbinainna kunna thalimeen
QaraiThey said, ‘Immaculate is our Lord! We have indeed been wrongdoers!’
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, we were wrongdoers."
-
68:30
فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَلَٰوَمُونَ ٣٠
Faaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatalawamoon
QaraiThen they turned to one another, blaming each other.
Saheeh InternationalThen they approached one another, blaming each other.
-
68:31
قَالُوا۟ يَٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا طَٰغِينَ ٣١
Qaloo ya waylana innakunna tagheen
QaraiThey said, ‘Woe to us! Indeed, we have been rebellious.
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "O woe to us; indeed we were transgressors.
-
68:32
عَسَىٰ رَبُّنَآ أَن يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْرًا مِّنْهَآ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَٰغِبُونَ ٣٢
AAasa rabbuna an yubdilanakhayran minha inna ila rabbina raghiboon
QaraiMaybe our Lord will give us a better one in its place. Indeed we earnestly beseech our Lord.’
Saheeh InternationalPerhaps our Lord will substitute for us [one] better than it. Indeed, we are toward our Lord desirous."
-
68:33
كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلَْٔاخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ ٣٣
Kathalika alAAathabu walaAAathabual-akhirati akbaru law kanoo yaAAlamoon
QaraiSuch was their punishment; and the punishment of the Hereafter is surely greater, had they known.
Saheeh InternationalSuch is the punishment [of this world]. And the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew.
-
68:34
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ٣٤
Inna lilmuttaqeena AAinda rabbihim jannatiannaAAeem
QaraiIndeed for the Godwary there will be gardens of bliss near their Lord.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, for the righteous with their Lord are the Gardens of Pleasure.
-
68:35
أَفَنَجْعَلُ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ كَٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ ٣٥
AfanajAAalu almuslimeena kalmujrimeen
QaraiShall We treat those who submit [to Us] as [We treat] the guilty?
Saheeh InternationalThen will We treat the Muslims like the criminals?
-
68:36
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ ٣٦
Ma lakum kayfa tahkumoon
QaraiWhat is the matter with you? How do you judge!
Saheeh InternationalWhat is [the matter] with you? How do you judge?
-
68:37
أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَٰبٌ فِيهِ تَدْرُسُونَ ٣٧
Am lakum kitabun feehi tadrusoon
QaraiDo you possess a scripture in which you read
Saheeh InternationalOr do you have a scripture in which you learn
-
68:38
إِنَّ لَكُمْ فِيهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُونَ ٣٨
Inna lakum feehi lama takhayyaroon
Qaraithat you shall have in it whatever you choose?
Saheeh InternationalThat indeed for you is whatever you choose?
-
68:39
أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَٰنٌ عَلَيْنَا بَٰلِغَةٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ ۙ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ ٣٩
Am lakum aymanun AAalayna balighatunila yawmi alqiyamati inna lakum lama tahkumoon
QaraiDo you have a pledge binding on Us until the Day of Resurrection, that you shall indeed have whatever you decide?
Saheeh InternationalOr do you have oaths [binding] upon Us, extending until the Day of Resurrection, that indeed for you is whatever you judge?
-
68:40
سَلْهُمْ أَيُّهُم بِذَٰلِكَ زَعِيمٌ ٤٠
Salhum ayyuhum bithalika zaAAeem
QaraiAsk them, which of them will aver [any of] that!
Saheeh InternationalAsk them which of them, for that [claim], is responsible.
-
68:41
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَآءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَٰدِقِينَ ٤١
Am lahum shurakao falya/too bishuraka-ihimin kanoo sadiqeen
QaraiDo they have any ‘partners’ [that they claim for Allah]? Then let them produce their partners, if they are truthful.
Saheeh InternationalOr do they have partners? Then let them bring their partners, if they should be truthful.
-
68:42
يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَن سَاقٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ ٤٢
Yawma yukshafu AAan saqin wayudAAawnaila assujoodi fala yastateeAAoon
QaraiThe day when the catastrophe occurs and they are summoned to prostrate themselves, they will not be able [to do it].
Saheeh InternationalThe Day the shin will be uncovered and they are invited to prostration but they [i.e., the disbelievers] will not be able,
-
68:43
خَٰشِعَةً أَبْصَٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ وَقَدْ كَانُوا۟ يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَٰلِمُونَ ٤٣
KhashiAAatan absaruhumtarhaquhum thillatun waqad kanoo yudAAawna ilaassujoodi wahum salimoon
QaraiWith a humbled look [in their eyes], they will be overcast by abasement. Certainly, they were summoned to prostrate themselves while they were yet sound.
Saheeh InternationalTheir eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. And they used to be invited to prostration while they were sound.
-
68:44
فَذَرْنِى وَمَن يُكَذِّبُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ ۖ سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ٤٤
Fatharnee waman yukaththibubihatha alhadeethi sanastadrijuhum min haythula yaAAlamoon
QaraiSo leave Me with those who deny this discourse. We will draw them imperceptibly [into ruin], whence they do not know.
Saheeh InternationalSo leave Me, [O Muḥammad], with [the matter of] whoever denies this statement [i.e., the Qur’ān]. We will progressively lead them [to punishment] from where they do not know.
-
68:45
وَأُمْلِى لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِى مَتِينٌ ٤٥
Waomlee lahum inna kaydee mateen
QaraiI will grant them respite, for My devising is indeed sure.
Saheeh InternationalAnd I will give them time. Indeed, My plan is firm.
-
68:46
أَمْ تَسَْٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ ٤٦
Am tas-aluhum ajran fahum min maghraminmuthqaloon
QaraiDo you ask them for a reward, so that they are weighed down with debt?
Saheeh InternationalOr do you ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down?
-
68:47
أَمْ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ ٤٧
Am AAindahumu alghaybu fahum yaktuboon
QaraiDo they possess [access to] the Unseen, so that they write it down?
Saheeh InternationalOr have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down?
-
68:48
فَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تَكُن كَصَاحِبِ ٱلْحُوتِ إِذْ نَادَىٰ وَهُوَ مَكْظُومٌ ٤٨
Fasbir lihukmi rabbikawala takun kasahibi alhooti ith nadawahuwa makthoom
QaraiSo submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord, and do not be like the Man of the Fish who called out as he choked with grief.
Saheeh InternationalThen be patient for the decision of your Lord, [O Muḥammad], and be not like the companion of the fish [i.e., Jonah] when he called out while he was distressed.
-
68:49
لَّوْلَآ أَن تَدَٰرَكَهُۥ نِعْمَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ لَنُبِذَ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌ ٤٩
Lawla an tadarakahu niAAmatunmin rabbihi lanubitha bilAAara-i wahuwa mathmoom
QaraiHad it not been for a blessing that came to his rescue from his Lord, he would surely have been cast on the bare shore, being blameworthy.
Saheeh InternationalIf not that a favor [i.e., mercy] from his Lord overtook him, he would have been thrown onto the naked shore while he was censured.
-
68:50
فَٱجْتَبَٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَجَعَلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ ٥٠
Fajtabahu rabbuhu fajaAAalahumina assaliheen
QaraiSo his Lord chose him and made him one of the righteous.
Saheeh InternationalAnd his Lord chose him and made him of the righteous.
-
68:51
وَإِن يَكَادُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَٰرِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا۟ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُۥ لَمَجْنُونٌ ٥١
Wa-in yakadu allatheenakafaroo layuzliqoonaka bi-absarihim lamma samiAAooaththikra wayaqooloona innahu lamajnoon
QaraiIndeed the faithless almost devour you with their eyes when they hear this Reminder, and they say, ‘He is indeed crazy.’
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes [i.e., looks] when they hear the message, and they say, "Indeed, he is mad."
-
68:52
وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ ٥٢
Wama huwa illa thikrunlilAAalameen
QaraiYet it is just a reminder for all the nations.
Saheeh InternationalBut it is not except a reminder to the worlds.
