بِسْمِ
-
68:1
نٓ ۚ وَٱ لْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُو نَ ١Noon walqalami wama yasturoon
Nun. By the Pen and what they write:Ali Quli Qarai
Nūn. By the pen and what they inscribe,Saheeh International
-
68:2
م
َآ أَنت َ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْ نُو نٍۢ ٢Ma anta biniAAmati rabbika bimajnoon
by your Lord’s blessing, you are not, crazy,Ali Quli Qarai
You are not, [O Muḥammad], by the favor of your Lord, a madman.Saheeh International
-
68:3
وَإِ
نّ َ لَكَ لَأَجْ رًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُو نٍۢ ٣Wa-inna laka laajran ghayra mamnoon
and yours indeed will be an everlasting reward,Ali Quli Qarai
And indeed, for you is a reward uninterrupted.Saheeh International
-
68:4
وَإِ
نّ َكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِي مٍۢ ٤Wa-innaka laAAala khuluqin AAatheem
and indeed you possess a great character.Ali Quli Qarai
And indeed, you are of a great moral character.Saheeh International
-
68:5
فَسَتُ
بْ صِرُ وَيُبْ صِرُو نَ ٥Fasatubsiru wayubsiroon
You will see and they will see,Ali Quli Qarai
So you will see and they will seeSaheeh International
-
68:6
بِأَييِّكُمُ
ٱ لْمَفْتُو نُ ٦Bi-ayyikumu almaftoon
which one of you is crazy.Ali Quli Qarai
Which of you is the afflicted [by a devil].Saheeh International
-
68:7
إِ
نّ َ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ض َلَّ عَن س َبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱ لْمُهْتَدِي نَ ٧Inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman dallaAAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bilmuhtadeen
Indeed your Lord knows best those who stray from His way, and He knows best those who are guided.Ali Quli Qarai
Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has gone astray from His way, and He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.Saheeh International
-
68:8
فَلَا تُطِعِ
ٱ لْمُكَذِّبِي نَ ٨Fala tutiAAi almukaththibeen
So do not obey the deniers,Ali Quli Qarai
Then do not obey the deniers.Saheeh International
-
68:9
وَدُّو
ا۟ لَوْ تُدْ هِنُ فَيُدْ هِنُو نَ ٩Waddoo law tudhinu fayudhinoon
who are eager that you should be flexible, so that they [too] may be flexible [towards you].Ali Quli Qarai
They wish that you would soften [in your position], so they would soften [toward you].Saheeh International
-
68:10
وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّا
فٍ ۢم َّهِي نٍ ١٠Wala tutiAA kulla hallafinmaheen
And do not obey any vile swearer,Ali Quli Qarai
And do not obey every worthless habitual swearerSaheeh International
-
68:11
هَ
مّ َازٍ ۢم َّشَّا ٓءٍۭ ب ِنَمِي مٍۢ ١١Hammazin mashsha-in binameem
scandal-monger, talebearer,Ali Quli Qarai
[And] scorner, going about with malicious gossip -Saheeh International
-
68:12
مَّ
نّ َاعٍ ۢل ِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِي مٍ ١٢MannaAAin lilkhayri muAAtadin atheem
hinderer of all good, sinful transgressor,Ali Quli Qarai
A preventer of good, transgressing and sinful,Saheeh International
-
68:13
عُتُل
ٍّۭ ب َعْدَ ذَٰ لِكَ زَنِي مٍ ١٣AAutullin baAAda thalika zaneem
callous and, on top of that, basebornAli Quli Qarai
Cruel, moreover, and an illegitimate pretender.Saheeh International
-
68:14
أَ
ن ك َانَ ذَا مَالٍ ۢو َبَنِي نَ ١٤An kana tha malinwabaneen
—[who behaves in such a manner only] because he has wealth and children.Ali Quli Qarai
Because he is a possessor of wealth and children,Saheeh International
-
68:15
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَ
ٰ تُنَا قَالَ أَسَٰ طِيرُٱ لْأَوَّلِي نَ ١٥Itha tutla AAalayhi ayatunaqala asateeru al-awwaleen
When Our signs are recited to him, he says, ‘Myths of the ancients!’Ali Quli Qarai
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."Saheeh International

68:16
سَنَسِمُهُ
ۥ عَلَىٱ لْخُرْطُو مِ ١٦Sanasimuhu AAala alkhurtoom
Soon We shall brand him on his snout.Ali Quli Qarai
We will brand him upon the snout.Saheeh International
-
68:17
إِ
نّ َا بَلَوْنَٰ هُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَآ أَصْحَٰ بَٱ لْجَنّ َةِ إِذْ أَقْ سَمُوا۟ لَيَصْرِمُنّ َهَا مُصْبِحِي نَ ١٧Inna balawnahum kamabalawna as-haba aljannati ith aqsamoolayasrimunnaha musbiheen
Indeed we have tested them just as We tested the People of the Garden when they vowed they would gather its fruit at dawn,Ali Quli Qarai
Indeed, We have tried them as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the [early] morningSaheeh International

68:18
وَلَا يَسْتَثْن
ُو نَ ١٨Wala yastathnoon
and they did not make any exception.Ali Quli Qarai
Without making exception.Saheeh International
-
68:19
فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا ط
َا ٓئِفٌ ۭم ِّن ر َّبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَا ٓئِمُو نَ ١٩Fatafa AAalayha ta-ifunmin rabbika wahum na-imoon
Then, a visitation from your Lord visited it while they were asleep.Ali Quli Qarai
So there came upon it [i.e., the garden] an affliction from your Lord while they were asleep.Saheeh International
-
68:20
فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَ
ٱ ل صَّرِي مِ ٢٠Faasbahat kassareem
So, by dawn it was like a harvested field.Ali Quli Qarai
And it became as though reaped.Saheeh International
-
68:21
فَتَنَادَوْ
ا۟ مُصْبِحِي نَ ٢١Fatanadaw musbiheen
At dawn they called out to one another,Ali Quli Qarai
And they called one another at morning,Saheeh International
-
68:22
أَنِ
ٱ غْدُوا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْثِكُمْ إِن ك ُنت ُمْ صَٰ رِمِي نَ ٢٢Ani ighdoo AAala harthikum inkuntum sarimeen
‘Get off early to your field if you have to gather [the fruits].’Ali Quli Qarai
[Saying], "Go early to your crop if you would cut the fruit."Saheeh International

68:23
فَ
ٱ نط َلَقُوا۟ وَهُمْ يَتَخَٰ فَتُو نَ ٢٣Fantalaqoo wahum yatakhafatoon
So off they went, murmuring to one another:Ali Quli Qarai
So they set out, while lowering their voices,Saheeh International
-
68:24
أ
َن ل َّا يَدْ خُلَنّ َهَاٱ لْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم م ِّسْكِي نٌۭ ٢٤An la yadkhulannaha alyawmaAAalaykum miskeen
‘Today no needy man shall come to you in it.’Ali Quli Qarai
[Saying], "There will surely not enter it today upon you [any] poor person."Saheeh International
-
68:25
وَغَدَوْ
ا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْدٍ ۢق َٰ دِرِي نَ ٢٥Waghadaw AAala hardin qadireen
And they set out at early morning, [considering themselves] able to deprive [the poor of its fruit].Ali Quli Qarai
And they went early in determination, [assuming themselves] able.Saheeh International
-
68:26
فَلَ
مّ َا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوٓ ا۟ إِنّ َا لَضَا ٓلُّو نَ ٢٦Falamma raawha qalooinna ladalloon
But when they saw it, they said, ‘We have indeed lost our way!’Ali Quli Qarai
But when they saw it, they said, "Indeed, we are lost;Saheeh International
-
68:27
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُوم
ُو نَ ٢٧Bal nahnu mahroomoon
‘No, it is we who have been deprived!’Ali Quli Qarai
Rather, we have been deprived."Saheeh International
-
68:28
قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّح
ُو نَ ٢٨Qala awsatuhum alam aqul lakumlawla tusabbihoon
The most upright among them said, ‘Did I not tell you, ‘‘Why do you not glorify [Allah]?’’ ’Ali Quli Qarai
The most moderate of them said, "Did I not say to you, 'Why do you not exalt [Allāh]?'"Saheeh International

68:29
قَالُو
ا۟ سُبْ حَٰ نَ رَبِّنَآ إِنّ َا كُنّ َا ظَٰ لِمِي نَ ٢٩Qaloo subhana rabbinainna kunna thalimeen
They said, ‘Immaculate is our Lord! We have indeed been wrongdoers!’Ali Quli Qarai
They said, "Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, we were wrongdoers."Saheeh International

68:30
فَأَ
قْ بَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۢي َتَلَٰ وَمُو نَ ٣٠Faaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatalawamoon
Then they turned to one another, blaming each other.Ali Quli Qarai
Then they approached one another, blaming each other.Saheeh International
-
68:31
قَالُو
ا۟ يَٰ وَيْلَنَآ إِنّ َا كُنّ َا طَٰ غِي نَ ٣١Qaloo ya waylana innakunna tagheen
They said, ‘Woe to us! Indeed, we have been rebellious.Ali Quli Qarai
They said, "O woe to us; indeed we were transgressors.Saheeh International
-
68:32
عَسَىٰ رَبُّن
َآ أَن ي ُبْ دِلَنَا خَيْرً ۭا م ِّنْهَآ إِنّ َآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَٰ غِبُو نَ ٣٢AAasa rabbuna an yubdilanakhayran minha inna ila rabbina raghiboon
Maybe our Lord will give us a better one in its place. Indeed we earnestly beseech our Lord.’Ali Quli Qarai
Perhaps our Lord will substitute for us [one] better than it. Indeed, we are toward our Lord desirous."Saheeh International
-
68:33
كَذَ
ٰ لِكَٱ لْعَذَابُ ۖ وَلَعَذَابُٱ لَْٔاخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُو نَ ٣٣Kathalika alAAathabu walaAAathabual-akhirati akbaru law kanoo yaAAlamoon
Such was their punishment; and the punishment of the Hereafter is surely greater, had they known.Ali Quli Qarai
Such is the punishment [of this world]. And the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew.Saheeh International
-
68:34
إِ
نّ َ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ عِند َ رَبِّهِمْ جَنّ َٰ تِٱ ل نّ َعِي مِ ٣٤Inna lilmuttaqeena AAinda rabbihim jannatiannaAAeem
Indeed for the Godwary there will be gardens of bliss near their Lord.Ali Quli Qarai
Indeed, for the righteous with their Lord are the Gardens of Pleasure.Saheeh International
-
68:35
أَفَنَ
جْ عَلُٱ لْمُسْلِمِينَ كَٱ لْمُجْ رِمِي نَ ٣٥AfanajAAalu almuslimeena kalmujrimeen
Shall We treat those who submit [to Us] as [We treat] the guilty?Ali Quli Qarai
Then will We treat the Muslims like the criminals?Saheeh International
-
68:36
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُم
ُو نَ ٣٦Ma lakum kayfa tahkumoon
What is the matter with you? How do you judge!Ali Quli Qarai
What is [the matter] with you? How do you judge?Saheeh International
-
68:37
أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَ
ٰ بٌ ۭف ِيهِ تَدْ رُسُو نَ ٣٧Am lakum kitabun feehi tadrusoon
Do you possess a scripture in which you readAli Quli Qarai
Or do you have a scripture in which you learnSaheeh International
-
68:38
إِ
نّ َ لَكُمْ فِيهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُو نَ ٣٨Inna lakum feehi lama takhayyaroon
that you shall have in it whatever you choose?Ali Quli Qarai
That indeed for you is whatever you choose?Saheeh International
-
68:39
أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَ
ٰ نٌ عَلَيْنَا بَٰ لِغَةٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِٱ لْقِيَٰ مَةِ ۙ إِنّ َ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُو نَ ٣٩Am lakum aymanun AAalayna balighatunila yawmi alqiyamati inna lakum lama tahkumoon
Do you have a pledge binding on Us until the Day of Resurrection, that you shall indeed have whatever you decide?Ali Quli Qarai
Or do you have oaths [binding] upon Us, extending until the Day of Resurrection, that indeed for you is whatever you judge?Saheeh International
-
68:40
سَلْهُمْ أَيُّه
ُم ب ِذَٰ لِكَ زَعِي مٌ ٤٠Salhum ayyuhum bithalika zaAAeem
Ask them, which of them will aver [any of] that!Ali Quli Qarai
Ask them which of them, for that [claim], is responsible.Saheeh International
-
68:41
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَك
َا ٓءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِشُرَكَا ٓئِهِمْ إِن ك َانُوا۟ صَٰ دِقِي نَ ٤١Am lahum shurakao falya/too bishuraka-ihimin kanoo sadiqeen
Do they have any ‘partners’ [that they claim for Allah]? Then let them produce their partners, if they are truthful.Ali Quli Qarai
Or do they have partners? Then let them bring their partners, if they should be truthful.Saheeh International
-
68:42
يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَ
ن س َاقٍ ۢو َيُدْ عَوْنَ إِلَىٱ ل سُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُو نَ ٤٢Yawma yukshafu AAan saqin wayudAAawnaila assujoodi fala yastateeAAoon
The day when the catastrophe occurs and they are summoned to prostrate themselves, they will not be able [to do it].Ali Quli Qarai
The Day the shin will be uncovered and they are invited to prostration but they [i.e., the disbelievers] will not be able,Saheeh International
-
68:43
خَ
ٰ شِعَةً أَبْ صَٰ رُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۭۖ و َقَدْ كَانُوا۟ يُدْ عَوْنَ إِلَىٱ ل سُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَٰ لِمُو نَ ٤٣KhashiAAatan absaruhumtarhaquhum thillatun waqad kanoo yudAAawna ilaassujoodi wahum salimoon
With a humbled look [in their eyes], they will be overcast by abasement. Certainly, they were summoned to prostrate themselves while they were yet sound.Ali Quli Qarai
Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. And they used to be invited to prostration while they were sound.Saheeh International
-
68:44
فَذَرْنِى وَم
َن ي ُكَذِّبُ بِهَٰ ذَاٱ لْحَدِيثِ ۖ سَنَسْتَدْ رِجُهُم م ِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُو نَ ٤٤Fatharnee waman yukaththibubihatha alhadeethi sanastadrijuhum min haythula yaAAlamoon
So leave Me with those who deny this discourse. We will draw them imperceptibly [into ruin], whence they do not know.Ali Quli Qarai
So leave Me, [O Muḥammad], with [the matter of] whoever denies this statement [i.e., the Qur’ān]. We will progressively lead them [to punishment] from where they do not know.Saheeh International
-
68:45
وَأُمْلِى لَهُمْ ۚ إِ
نّ َ كَيْدِى مَتِي نٌ ٤٥Waomlee lahum inna kaydee mateen
I will grant them respite, for My devising is indeed sure.Ali Quli Qarai
And I will give them time. Indeed, My plan is firm.Saheeh International
-
68:46
أَمْ تَسَْٔلُهُمْ أَ
جْ رً ۭا ف َهُم م ِّن م َّغْرَمٍ ۢم ُّثْقَلُو نَ ٤٦Am tas-aluhum ajran fahum min maghraminmuthqaloon
Do you ask them for a reward, so that they are weighed down with debt?Ali Quli Qarai
Or do you ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down?Saheeh International
-
68:47
أَمْ عِ
ند َهُمُٱ لْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُو نَ ٤٧Am AAindahumu alghaybu fahum yaktuboon
Do they possess [access to] the Unseen, so that they write it down?Ali Quli Qarai
Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down?Saheeh International
-
68:48
فَ
ٱ صْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تَكُن ك َصَاحِبِٱ لْحُوتِ إِذْ نَادَىٰ وَهُوَ مَكْظُو مٌۭ ٤٨Fasbir lihukmi rabbikawala takun kasahibi alhooti ith nadawahuwa makthoom
So submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord, and do not be like the Man of the Fish who called out as he choked with grief.Ali Quli Qarai
Then be patient for the decision of your Lord, [O Muḥammad], and be not like the companion of the fish [i.e., Jonah] when he called out while he was distressed.Saheeh International
-
68:49
لَّوْل
َآ أَن ت َدَٰ رَكَهُۥ نِعْمَةٌ ۭم ِّن ر َّبِّهِۦ لَنُبِذَ بِٱ لْعَرَا ٓءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُو مٌۭ ٤٩Lawla an tadarakahu niAAmatunmin rabbihi lanubitha bilAAara-i wahuwa mathmoom
Had it not been for a blessing that came to his rescue from his Lord, he would surely have been cast on the bare shore, being blameworthy.Ali Quli Qarai
If not that a favor [i.e., mercy] from his Lord overtook him, he would have been thrown onto the naked shore while he was censured.Saheeh International
-
68:50
فَ
ٱ جْ تَبَٰ هُ رَبُّهُۥ فَجَعَلَهُۥ مِنَٱ ل صَّٰ لِحِي نَ ٥٠Fajtabahu rabbuhu fajaAAalahumina assaliheen
So his Lord chose him and made him one of the righteous.Ali Quli Qarai
And his Lord chose him and made him of the righteous.Saheeh International
-
68:51
وَإ
ِن ي َكَادُٱ لَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْ صَٰ رِهِمْ لَمّ َا سَمِعُوا۟ ٱ ل ذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنّ َهُۥ لَمَجْ نُو نٌۭ ٥١Wa-in yakadu allatheenakafaroo layuzliqoonaka bi-absarihim lamma samiAAooaththikra wayaqooloona innahu lamajnoon
Indeed the faithless almost devour you with their eyes when they hear this Reminder, and they say, ‘He is indeed crazy.’Ali Quli Qarai
And indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes [i.e., looks] when they hear the message, and they say, "Indeed, he is mad."Saheeh International

68:52
وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْ
رٌ ۭل ِّلْعَٰ لَمِي نَ ٥٢Wama huwa illa thikrunlilAAalameen
Yet it is just a reminder for all the nations.Ali Quli Qarai
But it is not except a reminder to the worlds.Saheeh International
