بِسْمِ
-
70:1
سَأَلَ س
َ آئِلٌۢ ب ِعَذَابٍ ۢو َاقِعٍۢ ١Saala sa-ilun biAAathabin waqiAA
An asker asked for a punishment sure to befallAli Quli Qarai
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happenSaheeh International
-
70:2
لِّلْكَ
ٰ فِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌۭ ٢Lilkafireena laysa lahu dafiAA
—which none can avert from the faithless —Ali Quli Qarai
To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer.Saheeh International
-
70:3
مِّنَ
ٱ للَّهِ ذِىٱ لْمَعَارِج ِ ٣Mina Allahi thee almaAAarij
from Allah, Lord of the lofty stations.Ali Quli Qarai
[It is] from Allāh, owner of the ways of ascent.Saheeh International
-
70:4
تَعْرُجُ
ٱ لْمَلَٰٓ ئِكَةُ وَٱ ل رُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ ۢك َانَ مِقْ دَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍۢ ٤TaAAruju almala-ikatu warroohuilayhi fee yawmin kana miqdaruhu khamseena alfasana
The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a day whose span is fifty thousand years.Ali Quli Qarai
The angels and the Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years.Saheeh International
-
70:5
فَ
ٱ صْبِرْ صَبْ رً ۭا ج َمِيلًا ٥Fasbir sabran jameela
So be patient, with a patience that is graceful.Ali Quli Qarai
So be patient with gracious patience.Saheeh International
-
70:6
إِ
نّ َهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًۭا ٦Innahum yarawnahu baAAeeda
Indeed they see it to be far off,Ali Quli Qarai
Indeed, they see it [as] distant,Saheeh International
-
70:7
وَنَرَ
ىٰ هُ قَرِيبًۭا ٧Wanarahu qareeba
and We see it to be near.Ali Quli Qarai
But We see it [as] near.Saheeh International
-
70:8
يَوْمَ تَكُونُ
ٱ ل سَّمَا ٓءُ كَٱ لْمُهْلِ ٨Yawma takoonu assamao kalmuhl
The day when the sky will be like molten copper,Ali Quli Qarai
On the Day the sky will be like murky oil,Saheeh International
-
70:9
وَتَكُونُ
ٱ لْجِبَالُ كَٱ لْعِهْنِ ٩Watakoonu aljibalu kalAAihn
and the mountains like [tufts of] dyed wool,Ali Quli Qarai
And the mountains will be like wool,Saheeh International
-
70:10
وَلَا يَسَْٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًۭا ١٠
Wala yas-alu hameemun hameema
and no friend will inquire about [the welfare of his] friend,Ali Quli Qarai
And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend,Saheeh International
-
70:11
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ
ٱ لْمُجْ رِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ ب ِبَنِي هِ ١١Yubassaroonahum yawaddu almujrimu lawyaftadee min AAathabi yawmi-ithin bibaneeh
[though] they will be placed within each other’s sight. The guilty one will wish he could ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children,Ali Quli Qarai
They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his childrenSaheeh International
-
70:12
وَصَ
ٰ حِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِي هِ ١٢Wasahibatihi waakheeh
his spouse and his brother,Ali Quli Qarai
And his wife and his brotherSaheeh International
-
70:13
وَفَصِيلَتِهِ
ٱ لَّتِى تُْٔوِي هِ ١٣Wafaseelatihi allatee tu/weeh
his kin, which had sheltered himAli Quli Qarai
And his nearest kindred who shelter himSaheeh International
-
70:14
وَمَ
ن ف ِىٱ لْأَرْضِ جَمِيعً ۭا ث ُمّ َ يُنج ِي هِ ١٤Waman fee al-ardi jameeAAan thummayunjeeh
and all those who are upon the earth, if that might deliver him.Ali Quli Qarai
And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him.Saheeh International
-
70:15
كَلّ
َآ ۖ إِنّ َهَا لَظَىٰ ١٥Kalla innaha latha
Never! Indeed, it is a blazing fire,Ali Quli Qarai
No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell],Saheeh International
-
70:16
نَزَّاعَ
ةً ۭل ِّلشَّوَىٰ ١٦NazzaAAatan lishshawa
which strips away the scalp.Ali Quli Qarai
A remover of exteriors.Saheeh International
-
70:17
تَ
دْ عُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْ بَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ١٧TadAAoo man adbara watawalla
It invites him, who has turned back [from the truth] and forsaken [it],Ali Quli Qarai
It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience]Saheeh International
-
70:18
وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ ١٨
WajamaAAa faawAAa
amassing [wealth] and hoarding [it].Ali Quli Qarai
And collected [wealth] and hoarded.Saheeh International
-
70:19
۞ إِ
نّ َٱ لْإِنس َٰ نَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا ١٩Inna al-insana khuliqa halooAAa
Indeed man has been created covetous:Ali Quli Qarai
Indeed, mankind was created anxious:Saheeh International
-
70:20
إِذَا مَسَّهُ
ٱ ل شَّرُّ جَزُوعًۭا ٢٠Itha massahu ashsharrujazooAAa
anxious when an ill befalls himAli Quli Qarai
When evil touches him, impatient,Saheeh International
-
70:21
وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ
ٱ لْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا ٢١Wa-itha massahu alkhayru manooAAa
and grudging [charity] when good comes his wayAli Quli Qarai
And when good touches him, withholding [of it],Saheeh International
-
70:22
إِلَّا
ٱ لْمُصَلِّي نَ ٢٢Illa almusalleen
—[all are such] except the prayerful,Ali Quli Qarai
Except the observers of prayer -Saheeh International
-
70:23
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ د
َا ٓئِمُو نَ ٢٣Allatheena hum AAala salatihimda-imoon
those who persevere in their prayersAli Quli Qarai
Those who are constant in their prayerSaheeh International
-
70:24
وَ
ٱ لَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰ لِهِمْ حَقٌّ ۭم َّعْلُو مٌۭ ٢٤Wallatheena fee amwalihimhaqqun maAAloom
and there is a known share in whose wealthAli Quli Qarai
And those within whose wealth is a known rightSaheeh International
-
70:25
لِّلسّ
َا ٓئِلِ وَٱ لْمَحْرُو مِ ٢٥Lissa-ili walmahroom
for the beggar and the deprived,Ali Quli Qarai
For the petitioner and the deprived -Saheeh International
-
70:26
وَ
ٱ لَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِٱ ل دِّي نِ ٢٦Wallatheena yusaddiqoonabiyawmi addeen
and who affirm the Day of Retribution,Ali Quli Qarai
And those who believe in the Day of RecompenseSaheeh International
-
70:27
وَ
ٱ لَّذِينَ هُم م ِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم م ُّشْفِقُو نَ ٢٧Wallatheena hum min AAathabirabbihim mushfiqoon
and those who are apprehensive of the punishment of their LordAli Quli Qarai
And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord -Saheeh International
-
70:28
إِ
نّ َ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُو نٍۢ ٢٨Inna AAathaba rabbihim ghayru ma/moon
(there is indeed no security from the punishment of their Lord)Ali Quli Qarai
Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe -Saheeh International
-
70:29
وَ
ٱ لَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَٰ فِظُو نَ ٢٩Wallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoon
and those who guard their private partsAli Quli Qarai
And those who guard their private partsSaheeh International
-
70:30
إِلَّا عَلَ
ىٰٓ أَزْوَٰ جِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَٰ نُهُمْ فَإِنّ َهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِي نَ ٣٠Illa AAala azwajihim awma malakat aymanuhum fa-innahum ghayru maloomeen
(apart from their spouses and their slave women, for then they are not blameworthy;Ali Quli Qarai
Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed -Saheeh International
-
70:31
فَمَنِ
ٱ بْ تَغَىٰ وَرَا ٓءَ ذَٰ لِكَ فَأُو۟ لَٰٓ ئِكَ هُمُٱ لْعَادُو نَ ٣١Famani ibtagha waraa thalikafaola-ika humu alAAadoon
but whoever seeks beyond that—it is they who are the transgressors)Ali Quli Qarai
But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors -Saheeh International
-
70:32
وَ
ٱ لَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَٰ نَٰ تِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰ عُو نَ ٣٢Wallatheena hum li-amanatihimwaAAahdihim raAAoon
and those who keep their trusts and covenants,Ali Quli Qarai
And those who are to their trusts and promises attentiveSaheeh International
-
70:33
وَ
ٱ لَّذِينَ هُم ب ِشَهَٰ دَٰ تِهِمْ قَا ٓئِمُو نَ ٣٣Wallatheena hum bishahadatihimqa-imoon
and those who are observant of their testimonies,Ali Quli Qarai
And those who are in their testimonies uprightSaheeh International
-
70:34
وَ
ٱ لَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُو نَ ٣٤Wallatheena hum AAala salatihimyuhafithoon
and those who are watchful of their prayers.Ali Quli Qarai
And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer:Saheeh International
-
70:35
أُ
و۟ لَٰٓ ئِكَ فِى جَنّ َٰ تٍ ۢم ُّكْرَمُو نَ ٣٥Ola-ika fee jannatin mukramoon
They will be in gardens, held in honour.Ali Quli Qarai
They will be in gardens, honored.Saheeh International
-
70:36
فَمَالِ
ٱ لَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِي نَ ٣٦Famali allatheena kafarooqibalaka muhtiAAeen
What is the matter with the faithless that they scramble toward you,Ali Quli Qarai
So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muḥammad],Saheeh International
-
70:37
عَنِ
ٱ لْيَمِينِ وَعَنِٱ ل شِّمَالِ عِزِي نَ ٣٧AAani alyameeni waAAani ashshimaliAAizeen
from left and right, in groups?Ali Quli Qarai
[To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups?Saheeh International
-
70:38
أَيَ
طْ مَعُ كُلُّٱ مْرِئٍ ۢم ِّنْهُمْ أَن ي ُدْ خَلَ جَنّ َةَ نَعِي مٍۢ ٣٨AyatmaAAu kullu imri-in minhum anyudkhala jannata naAAeem
Does each man among them hope to enter the garden of bliss?Ali Quli Qarai
Does every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure?Saheeh International
-
70:39
كَلّ
َآ ۖ إِنّ َا خَلَقْ نَٰ هُم م ِّمّ َا يَعْلَمُو نَ ٣٩Kalla inna khalaqnahummimma yaAAlamoon
Never! Indeed, We created them from what they know.Ali Quli Qarai
No! Indeed, We have created them from that which they know.Saheeh International
-
70:40
فَل
َآ أُقْ سِمُ بِرَبِّٱ لْمَشَٰ رِقِ وَٱ لْمَغَٰ رِبِ إِنّ َا لَقَٰ دِرُو نَ ٤٠Fala oqsimu birabbi almashariqiwalmagharibi inna laqadiroon
So I swear by the Lord of the easts and the wests that We are ableAli Quli Qarai
So I swear by the Lord of [all] risings and settings that indeed We are ableSaheeh International
-
70:41
عَلَ
ىٰٓ أَن ن ُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرً ۭا م ِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِي نَ ٤١AAala an nubaddila khayran minhum wamanahnu bimasbooqeen
to replace them with [others] better than them and We are not to be outmaneuvered.Ali Quli Qarai
To replace them with better than them; and We are not to be outdone.Saheeh International
-
70:42
فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُو
ا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰ قُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُٱ لَّذِى يُوعَدُو نَ ٤٢Fatharhum yakhoodoowayalAAaboo hatta yulaqoo yawmahumu allatheeyooAAadoon
So leave them to gossip and play till they encounter the day they are promised:Ali Quli Qarai
So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised -Saheeh International
-
70:43
يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ
ٱ لْأَجْ دَاثِ سِرَاعً ۭا ك َأَنّ َهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ ۢي ُوفِضُو نَ ٤٣Yawma yakhrujoona mina al-ajdathi siraAAankaannahum ila nusubin yoofidoon
the day when they emerge from graves, hastening, as if racing toward a target,Ali Quli Qarai
The Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly as if they were, toward an erected idol, hastening.Saheeh International
-
70:44
خَ
ٰ شِعَةً أَبْ صَٰ رُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۭۚ ذ َٰ لِكَٱ لْيَوْمُٱ لَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُو نَ ٤٤KhashiAAatan absaruhumtarhaquhum thillatun thalika alyawmu allatheekanoo yooAAadoon
with a humbled look [in their eyes], overcast by abasement. That is the day they had been promised.Ali Quli Qarai
Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. That is the Day which they had been promised.Saheeh International
