بِسْمِ
-
74:1
يَ
ٰٓ أَيُّهَاٱ لْمُدَّثِّرُ ١Ya ayyuha almuddaththir
O you wrapped up in your mantle!Ali Quli Qarai
O you who covers himself [with a garment],Saheeh International
-
74:2
قُمْ فَأَ
نذ ِرْ ٢Qum faanthir
Rise up and warn!Ali Quli Qarai
Arise and warnSaheeh International
-
74:3
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ ٣
Warabbaka fakabbir
Magnify your Lord,Ali Quli Qarai
And your Lord glorifySaheeh International
-
74:4
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ ٤
Wathiyabaka fatahhir
and purify your clothes,Ali Quli Qarai
And your clothing purifySaheeh International
-
74:5
وَ
ٱ ل رُّجْ زَ فَٱ هْجُرْ ٥Warrujza fahjur
and keep away from all impurity!Ali Quli Qarai
And uncleanliness avoidSaheeh International
-
74:6
وَلَا تَمْنُ
ن ت َسْتَكْثِرُ ٦Wala tamnun tastakthir
Do not grant a favour seeking a greater gain,Ali Quli Qarai
And do not confer favor to acquire moreSaheeh International
-
74:7
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَ
ٱ صْبِرْ ٧Walirabbika fasbir
and be patient for the sake of your Lord.Ali Quli Qarai
But for your Lord be patient.Saheeh International
-
74:8
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى
ٱ ل نّ َاقُو رِ ٨Fa-itha nuqira fee annaqoor
When the Trumpet will be sounded,Ali Quli Qarai
And when the trumpet is blown,Saheeh International
-
74:9
فَذَ
ٰ لِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ۢي َوْمٌ عَسِي رٌ ٩Fathalika yawma-ithin yawmunAAaseer
that will be a day of hardship,Ali Quli Qarai
That Day will be a difficult daySaheeh International
-
74:10
عَلَى
ٱ لْكَٰ فِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِي رٍۢ ١٠AAala alkafireena ghayruyaseer
not at all easy for the faithless.Ali Quli Qarai
For the disbelievers - not easy.Saheeh International
-
74:11
ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَ
قْ تُ وَحِيدًۭا ١١Tharnee waman khalaqtu waheeda
Leave Me [to deal] with him whom I created alone,Ali Quli Qarai
Leave Me with the one I created aloneSaheeh International
-
74:12
وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ
ۥ مَالً ۭام َّمْدُودًۭا ١٢WajaAAaltu lahu malan mamdooda
and furnished him with extensive means,Ali Quli Qarai
And to whom I granted extensive wealthSaheeh International
-
74:13
وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًۭا ١٣
Wabaneena shuhooda
[gave him] sons to be at his side,Ali Quli Qarai
And children present [with him]Saheeh International
-
74:14
وَمَهَّ
د تُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًۭا ١٤Wamahhadtu lahu tamheeda
and facilitated [all matters] for him.Ali Quli Qarai
And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life].Saheeh International
-
74:15
ثُ
مّ َ يَطْ مَعُ أَنْ أَزِي د َ ١٥Thumma yatmaAAu an azeed
Still he is eager that I should give him more.Ali Quli Qarai
Then he desires that I should add more.Saheeh International
-
74:16
كَلّ
َآ ۖ إِنّ َهُۥ كَانَ لَِٔايَٰ تِنَا عَنِيدًۭا ١٦Kalla innahu kana li-ayatinaAAaneeda
No indeed! He is an obstinate opponent of Our signs.Ali Quli Qarai
No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate.Saheeh International
-
74:17
سَأُرْهِقُهُ
ۥ صَعُودًا ١٧Saorhiquhu saAAooda
Soon I will overwhelm him with hardship.Ali Quli Qarai
I will cover him with arduous torment.Saheeh International
-
74:18
إِ
نّ َهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ ١٨Innahu fakkara waqaddar
Indeed he reflected and decided.Ali Quli Qarai
Indeed, he thought and deliberated.Saheeh International
-
74:19
فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ ١٩
Faqutila kayfa qaddar
Perish he, how he decided!Ali Quli Qarai
So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.Saheeh International
-
74:20
ثُ
مّ َ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ ٢٠Thumma qutila kayfa qaddar
Again, perish he, how he decided!Ali Quli Qarai
Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.Saheeh International
-
74:21
ثُ
مّ َ نَظَرَ ٢١Thumma nathar
Then he looked;Ali Quli Qarai
Then he considered [again];Saheeh International
-
74:22
ثُ
مّ َ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ ٢٢Thumma AAabasa wabasar
then frowned and scowled.Ali Quli Qarai
Then he frowned and scowled;Saheeh International
-
74:23
ثُ
مّ َ أَدْ بَرَ وَٱ سْتَكْبَرَ ٢٣Thumma adbara wastakbar
Then he walked away disdainfully,Ali Quli Qarai
Then he turned back and was arrogantSaheeh International
-
74:24
فَقَالَ إِنْ هَ
ٰ ذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ ۭي ُؤْثَرُ ٢٤Faqala in hatha illa sihrunyu/thar
saying, ‘It is nothing but traditional sorcery.Ali Quli Qarai
And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others].Saheeh International
-
74:25
إِنْ هَ
ٰ ذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُٱ لْبَشَرِ ٢٥In hatha illa qawlu albashar
It is nothing but the speech of a human.’Ali Quli Qarai
This is not but the word of a human being."Saheeh International
-
74:26
سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ ٢٦
Saosleehi saqar
Soon I will cast him into Saqar.Ali Quli Qarai
I will drive him into Saqar.Saheeh International
-
74:27
وَم
َآ أَدْ رَىٰ كَ مَا سَقَرُ ٢٧Wama adraka ma saqar
And what will show you what is Saqar?Ali Quli Qarai
And what can make you know what is Saqar?Saheeh International
-
74:28
لَا تُ
بْ قِى وَلَا تَذَرُ ٢٨La tubqee wala tathar
It neither spares, nor leaves [anything].Ali Quli Qarai
It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned],Saheeh International
-
74:29
لَوَّاحَ
ةٌ ۭل ِّلْبَشَرِ ٢٩Lawwahatun lilbashar
It burns the skin.Ali Quli Qarai
Altering [i.e., blackening] the skins.Saheeh International
-
74:30
عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ ٣٠
AAalayha tisAAata AAashar
There are nineteen [keepers] over it.Ali Quli Qarai
Over it are nineteen [angels].Saheeh International
-
74:31
وَمَا جَعَلْن
َآ أَصْحَٰ بَٱ ل نّ َارِ إِلَّا مَلَٰٓ ئِكَةً ۭۙ و َمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً ۭل ِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَٱ لَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱ لْكِتَٰ بَ وَيَزْدَادَٱ لَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓ ا۟ إِيمَٰ نً ۭا ۙ و َلَا يَرْتَابَٱ لَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱ لْكِتَٰ بَ وَٱ لْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَٱ لَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم م َّرَضٌ ۭو َٱ لْكَٰ فِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَٱ للَّهُ بِهَٰ ذَا مَثَلً ۭاۚ ك َذَٰ لِكَ يُضِلُّٱ للَّهُ مَن ي َشَا ٓءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن ي َشَا ٓءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ ٣١Wama jaAAalna as-habaannari illa mala-ikatan wamajaAAalna AAiddatahum illa fitnatan lillatheenakafaroo liyastayqina allatheena ootoo alkitabawayazdada allatheena amanoo eemananwala yartaba allatheena ootoo alkitabawalmu/minoona waliyaqoola allatheena feequloobihim maradun walkafiroona mathaarada Allahu bihatha mathalan kathalikayudillu Allahu man yashao wayahdee man yashaowama yaAAlamu junooda rabbika illa huwa wamahiya illa thikra lilbashar
We have assigned only angels as keepers of the Fire, and We have made their number merely a stumbling block for the faithless, and so that those who were given the Book may be reassured, and the faithful may increase in [their] faith, and so that those who were given the Book and the faithful may not be in doubt, and so that the faithless and those in whose hearts is a sickness may say, ‘What did Allah mean by this description?’ Thus does Allah lead astray whomever He wishes and guides whomever He wishes. No one knows the hosts of your Lord except Him, and it is just an admonition for all humans.Ali Quli Qarai
And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is disease [i.e., hypocrisy] and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allāh intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allāh send astray whom He wills and guide whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And it [i.e., mention of the Fire] is not but a reminder to humanity.Saheeh International

74:32
كَلَّا وَ
ٱ لْقَمَرِ ٣٢Kalla walqamar
No indeed! By the Moon!Ali Quli Qarai
No! By the moonSaheeh International
-
74:33
وَ
ٱ لَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْ بَرَ ٣٣Wallayli ith adbar
By the night when it recedes!Ali Quli Qarai
And [by] the night when it departsSaheeh International
-
74:34
وَ
ٱ ل صُّبْ حِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ ٣٤Wassubhi ithaasfar
By the dawn when it brightens!Ali Quli Qarai
And [by] the morning when it brightens,Saheeh International
-
74:35
إِ
نّ َهَا لَإِحْدَىٱ لْكُبَرِ ٣٥Innaha la-ihda alkubar
Indeed they are one of the greatest [signs of God]Ali Quli Qarai
Indeed, it [i.e., the Fire] is of the greatest [afflictions]Saheeh International
-
74:36
نَذِي
رً ۭا ل ِّلْبَشَرِ ٣٦Natheeran lilbashar
—a warner to all humans,Ali Quli Qarai
As a warning to humanity -Saheeh International
-
74:37
لِمَ
ن ش َا ٓءَ مِنك ُمْ أَن ي َتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ ٣٧Liman shaa minkum an yataqaddama awyataakhkhar
[alike] for those of you who like to advance ahead and those who would remain behind.Ali Quli Qarai
To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind.Saheeh International
-
74:38
كُلُّ نَفْ
سٍۭ ب ِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ ٣٨Kullu nafsin bima kasabat raheena
Every soul is hostage to what it has earned,Ali Quli Qarai
Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retainedSaheeh International
-
74:39
إِلّ
َآ أَصْحَٰ بَٱ لْيَمِي نِ ٣٩Illa as-haba alyameen
except the People of the Right Hand.Ali Quli Qarai
Except the companions of the right,.Saheeh International
-
74:40
فِى جَ
نّ َٰ تٍ ۢي َتَسَا ٓءَلُو نَ ٤٠Fee jannatin yatasaaloon
[They will be] in gardens, questioningAli Quli Qarai
[Who will be] in gardens, questioning each otherSaheeh International
-
74:41
عَنِ
ٱ لْمُجْ رِمِي نَ ٤١AAani almujrimeen
the guilty:Ali Quli Qarai
About the criminals,Saheeh International
-
74:42
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ ٤٢
Ma salakakum fee saqar
‘What drew you into Hell?’Ali Quli Qarai
[And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?"Saheeh International
-
74:43
قَالُو
ا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَٱ لْمُصَلِّي نَ ٤٣Qaloo lam naku mina almusalleen
They will answer, ‘We were not among those who prayed.Ali Quli Qarai
They will say, "We were not of those who prayed,Saheeh International
-
74:44
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُ
طْ عِمُٱ لْمِسْكِي نَ ٤٤Walam naku nutAAimu almiskeen
Nor did we feed the poor.Ali Quli Qarai
Nor did we used to feed the poor.Saheeh International
-
74:45
وَكُ
نّ َا نَخُوضُ مَعَٱ لْخَا ٓئِضِي نَ ٤٥Wakunna nakhoodu maAAa alkha-ideen
We used to indulge in [profane] gossip along with the gossipers,Ali Quli Qarai
And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it],Saheeh International
-
74:46
وَكُ
نّ َا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِٱ ل دِّي نِ ٤٦Wakunna nukaththibu biyawmi addeen
and we used to deny the Day of RetributionAli Quli Qarai
And we used to deny the Day of RecompenseSaheeh International
-
74:47
حَتَّ
ىٰٓ أَتَىٰ نَاٱ لْيَقِي نُ ٤٧Hatta atanaalyaqeen
until death came to us.’Ali Quli Qarai
Until there came to us the certainty [i.e., death]."Saheeh International
-
74:48
فَمَا تَ
نف َعُهُمْ شَفَٰ عَةُٱ ل شَّٰ فِعِي نَ ٤٨Fama tanfaAAuhum shafaAAatu ashshafiAAeen
So the intercession of the intercessors will not avail them.Ali Quli Qarai
So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors.Saheeh International
-
74:49
فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ
ٱ ل تَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِي نَ ٤٩Fama lahum AAani attathkiratimuAArideen
What is the matter with them that they evade the ReminderAli Quli Qarai
Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning awaySaheeh International
-
74:50
كَأَ
نّ َهُمْ حُمُرٌ ۭم ُّسْتَنف ِرَةٌۭ ٥٠Kaannahum humurun mustanfira
as if they were terrified assesAli Quli Qarai
As if they were alarmed donkeysSaheeh International
-
74:51
فَرَّتْ مِ
ن ق َسْوَرَةٍۭ ٥١Farrat min qaswara
fleeing from a lion?Ali Quli Qarai
Fleeing from a lion?Saheeh International
-
74:52
بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ
ٱ مْرِئٍ ۢم ِّنْهُمْ أَن ي ُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفً ۭا م ُّنَشَّرَةًۭ ٥٢Bal yureedu kullu imri-in minhum an yu/tasuhufan munashshara
But everyone of them desires to be given unrolled scriptures [from Allah]!Ali Quli Qarai
Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about.Saheeh International
-
74:53
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ
ٱ لَْٔاخِرَةَ ٥٣Kalla bal la yakhafoonaal-akhira
No! Indeed, they do not fear the Hereafter.Ali Quli Qarai
No! But they do not fear the Hereafter.Saheeh International
-
74:54
كَلّ
َآ إِنّ َهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌۭ ٥٤Kalla innahu tathkira
No! It is indeed a reminder.Ali Quli Qarai
No! Indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is a reminderSaheeh International
-
74:55
فَمَ
ن ش َا ٓءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ ٥٥Faman shaa thakarah
So let anyone who wishes be mindful of it.Ali Quli Qarai
Then whoever wills will remember it.Saheeh International
-
74:56
وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلّ
َآ أَن ي َشَا ٓءَٱ للَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُٱ ل تَّقْ وَىٰ وَأَهْلُٱ لْمَغْفِرَةِ ٥٦Wama yathkuroona illaan yashaa Allahu huwa ahlu attaqwawaahlu almaghfirat
And they will not be mindful unless Allah wishes. He is worthy of [your] being wary [of Him] and He is worthy to forgive.Ali Quli Qarai
And they will not remember except that Allāh wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness.Saheeh International
