Al-Qiyamah · The Resurrection

40 verses · Revealed in Makkah

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 75:1

   لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ ۝١

   QaraiI swear by the Day of Resurrection!

2. 75:2

   وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ ۝٢

   QaraiAnd I swear by the self-critical soul!

3. 75:3

   أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ ۝٣

   QaraiDoes man suppose that We will not put together his bones [at resurrection]?

4. 75:4

   بَلَىٰ قَٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ ۝٤

   QaraiYes indeed, We are able to [re]shape [even] his fingertips!

5. 75:5

   بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ ۝٥

   QaraiIndeed, man desires to go on living viciously.

6. 75:6

   يَسَْٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ ۝٦

   QaraiHe asks, ‘When will be this “day of resurrection”?!’

7. 75:7

   فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ ۝٧

   QaraiBut when the eyes are dazzled,

8. 75:8

   وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ ۝٨

   Qaraithe moon is eclipsed,

9. 75:9

   وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ ۝٩

   Qaraiand the sun and the moon are brought together,

10. 75:10

    يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ ۝١٠

    Qaraithat day man will say, ‘Where is the escape [from this day]?’

11. 75:11

    كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ ۝١١

    QaraiNo indeed! There will be no refuge!

12. 75:12

    إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ ۝١٢

    QaraiThat day the [final] goal will be toward your Lord.

13. 75:13

    يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ ۝١٣

    QaraiThat day man will be informed about what [works] he had sent ahead [to the scene of judgement] and [the legacy that he had] left behind.

14. 75:14

    بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌ ۝١٤

    QaraiIndeed, man is a witness to himself,

15. 75:15

    وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ ۝١٥

    Qaraithough he should offer excuses [to justify his failings].

16. 75:16

    لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ ۝١٦

    QaraiDo not move your tongue with it to hasten it.

17. 75:17

    إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ ۝١٧

    QaraiIndeed it is up to Us to put it together and to recite it.

18. 75:18

    فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ ۝١٨

    QaraiAnd when We have recited it, follow its recitation.

19. 75:19

    ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ ۝١٩

    QaraiThen, its exposition [also] lies with Us.

20. 75:20

    كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ ۝٢٠

    QaraiNo! Indeed, you love this transitory life

21. 75:21

    وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلَْٔاخِرَةَ ۝٢١

    Qaraiand forsake the Hereafter.

22. 75:22

    وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ ۝٢٢

    QaraiSome faces will be fresh on that day,

23. 75:23

    إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ ۝٢٣

    Qarailooking to their Lord,

24. 75:24

    وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌ ۝٢٤

    Qaraiand some faces will be scowling on that day,

25. 75:25

    تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ ۝٢٥

    Qaraiknowing that they will be dealt out a punishment breaking the spine.

26. 75:26

    كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ ۝٢٦

    QaraiNo indeed! When it reaches up to the collar bones

27. 75:27

    وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ ۝٢٧

    Qaraiand it is said, ‘Who will take him up?’

28. 75:28

    وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ ۝٢٨

    Qaraiand he knows that it is the [time of] parting,

29. 75:29

    وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ ۝٢٩

    Qaraiand each shank clasps the other shank,

30. 75:30

    إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ ۝٣٠

    Qaraithat day he shall be driven toward your Lord.

31. 75:31

    فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ ۝٣١

    QaraiHe neither confirmed [the messages of Allah], nor did he pray,

32. 75:32

    وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ۝٣٢

    Qaraibut denied [them] and turned away,

33. 75:33

    ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ ۝٣٣

    Qaraiand went back swaggering to his family.

34. 75:34

    أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ ۝٣٤

    QaraiSo, woe to you! Woe to you!

35. 75:35

    ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ ۝٣٥

    QaraiAgain, woe to you! Woe to you!

36. 75:36

    أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى ۝٣٦

    QaraiDoes man suppose that he has been abandoned to futility?

37. 75:37

    أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِىٍّ يُمْنَىٰ ۝٣٧

    QaraiWas he not a drop of emitted semen,

38. 75:38

    ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ ۝٣٨

    Qaraiand then a clinging mass? Whereat He created and proportioned [him],

39. 75:39

    فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ ۝٣٩

    Qaraiand made of him the two sexes, male and female.

40. 75:40

    أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحِْۧىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ ۝٤٠

    QaraiIs not [someone like] that able to revive the dead?
