بِسْمِ
-
81:1
إِذَا
ٱ ل شَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ ١Itha ashshamsu kuwwirat
When the sun is wound up,Ali Quli Qarai
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]Saheeh International
-
81:2
وَإِذَا
ٱ ل نّ ُجُومُٱ نك َدَرَتْ ٢Wa-itha annujoomu inkadarat
when the stars scatter,Ali Quli Qarai
And when the stars fall, dispersing,Saheeh International
-
81:3
وَإِذَا
ٱ لْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ ٣Wa-itha aljibalu suyyirat
when the mountains are set moving,Ali Quli Qarai
And when the mountains are removedSaheeh International
-
81:4
وَإِذَا
ٱ لْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ ٤Wa-itha alAAisharu AAuttilat
when the pregnant camels are neglected,Ali Quli Qarai
And when full-term she-camels are neglectedSaheeh International
-
81:5
وَإِذَا
ٱ لْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ ٥Wa-itha alwuhooshu hushirat
when the wild beasts are mustered,Ali Quli Qarai
And when the wild beasts are gatheredSaheeh International
-
81:6
وَإِذَا
ٱ لْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ ٦Wa-itha albiharu sujjirat
when the seas are set afire,Ali Quli Qarai
And when the seas are filled with flameSaheeh International
-
81:7
وَإِذَا
ٱ ل نّ ُفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ ٧Wa-itha annufoosu zuwwijat
when the souls are assorted,Ali Quli Qarai
And when the souls are pairedSaheeh International
-
81:8
وَإِذَا
ٱ لْمَوْءُۥ دَةُ سُئِلَتْ ٨Wa-itha almawoodatu su-ilat
when the girl buried-alive will be askedAli Quli Qarai
And when the girl [who was] buried alive is askedSaheeh International
-
81:9
بِأَىِّ ذَ
نۢب ٍ ۢق ُتِلَتْ ٩Bi-ayyi thanbin qutilat
for what sin she was killed.Ali Quli Qarai
For what sin she was killedSaheeh International
-
81:10
وَإِذَا
ٱ ل صُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ ١٠Wa-itha assuhufunushirat
When the records [of deeds] are unfolded,Ali Quli Qarai
And when the pages are spread [i.e., made public]Saheeh International
-
81:11
وَإِذَا
ٱ ل سَّمَا ٓءُ كُشِطَتْ ١١Wa-itha assamao kushitat
when the sky is stripped off,Ali Quli Qarai
And when the sky is stripped awaySaheeh International
-
81:12
وَإِذَا
ٱ لْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ ١٢Wa-itha aljaheemu suAAAAirat
when hell is set ablaze,Ali Quli Qarai
And when Hellfire is set ablazeSaheeh International
-
81:13
وَإِذَا
ٱ لْجَنّ َةُ أُزْلِفَتْ ١٣Wa-itha aljannatu ozlifat
when paradise is brought near,Ali Quli Qarai
And when Paradise is brought near,Saheeh International
-
81:14
عَلِمَتْ نَفْ
سٌ ۭم َّآ أَحْضَرَتْ ١٤AAalimat nafsun ma ahdarat
then a soul shall know what it has readied [for itself].Ali Quli Qarai
A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it].Saheeh International
-
81:15
فَل
َآ أُقْ سِمُ بِٱ لْخُنّ َسِ ١٥Fala oqsimu bilkhunnas
So I swear by the stars that return,Ali Quli Qarai
So I swear by the retreating stars -Saheeh International
-
81:16
ٱلْجَوَارِ
ٱ لْكُنّ َسِ ١٦Aljawari alkunnas
the comets,Ali Quli Qarai
Those that run [their courses] and disappear [i.e., set]Saheeh International
-
81:17
وَ
ٱ لَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ ١٧Wallayli itha AAasAAas
by the night as it approaches,Ali Quli Qarai
And by the night as it closes inSaheeh International
-
81:18
وَ
ٱ ل صُّبْ حِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ ١٨Wassubhi ithatanaffas
by the dawn as it breathes:Ali Quli Qarai
And by the dawn when it breathes [i.e., stirs]Saheeh International
-
81:19
إِ
نّ َهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ ۢك َرِي مٍۢ ١٩Innahu laqawlu rasoolin kareem
it is indeed the speech of a noble apostle,Ali Quli Qarai
[That] indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger [i.e., Gabriel]Saheeh International
-
81:20
ذِى قُوَّةٍ عِ
ند َ ذِىٱ لْعَرْشِ مَكِي نٍۢ ٢٠Thee quwwatin AAinda theealAAarshi makeen
powerful and eminent with the Lord of the Throne,Ali Quli Qarai
[Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position],Saheeh International
-
81:21
مُّطَا
عٍ ۢث َمّ َ أَمِي نٍۢ ٢١MutaAAin thamma ameen
one who is obeyed and is trustworthy as well.Ali Quli Qarai
Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy.Saheeh International
-
81:22
وَمَا صَاحِبُك
ُم ب ِمَجْ نُو نٍۢ ٢٢Wama sahibukum bimajnoon
Your companion is not crazy:Ali Quli Qarai
And your companion [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ) ] is not [at all] mad.Saheeh International
-
81:23
وَلَقَ
دْ رَءَاهُ بِٱ لْأُفُقِٱ لْمُبِي نِ ٢٣Walaqad raahu bilofuqialmubeen
certainly he saw him on the manifest horizon,Ali Quli Qarai
And he has already seen him [i.e., Gabriel] in the clear horizon.Saheeh International
-
81:24
وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى
ٱ لْغَيْبِ بِضَنِي نٍۢ ٢٤Wama huwa AAala alghaybi bidaneen
and he is not miserly concerning the Unseen.Ali Quli Qarai
And he [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen.Saheeh International
-
81:25
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَ
ٰ نٍ ۢر َّجِي مٍۢ ٢٥Wama huwa biqawli shaytaninrajeem
And it is not the speech of an outcast Satan.Ali Quli Qarai
And it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens].Saheeh International

81:26
فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَب
ُو نَ ٢٦Faayna tathhaboon
So where are you going?Ali Quli Qarai
So where are you going?Saheeh International
-
81:27
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْ
رٌ ۭل ِّلْعَٰ لَمِي نَ ٢٧In huwa illa thikrun lilAAalameen
It is just a reminder for all the nations,Ali Quli Qarai
It is not except a reminder to the worldsSaheeh International
-
81:28
لِمَ
ن ش َا ٓءَ مِنك ُمْ أَن ي َسْتَقِي مَ ٢٨Liman shaa minkum an yastaqeem
for those of you who wish to walk straight;Ali Quli Qarai
For whoever wills among you to take a right course.Saheeh International
-
81:29
وَمَا تَش
َا ٓءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن ي َشَا ٓءَٱ للَّهُ رَبُّٱ لْعَٰ لَمِي نَ ٢٩Wama tashaoona illa anyashaa Allahu rabbu alAAalameen
but you will not wish unless it is wished by Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.Ali Quli Qarai
And you do not will except that Allāh wills - Lord of the worlds.Saheeh International
