المطففين

Al-Mutaffifin · The Defrauding

36 verses · Revealed in Makkah

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 83:1

   وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ ۝١

   QaraiWoe to the defrauders, who use short measures,

2. 83:2

   ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ ۝٢

   Qaraiwho, when they measure [a commodity bought] from the people, take the full measure,

3. 83:3

   وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ ۝٣

   Qaraibut diminish when they measure or weigh for them.

4. 83:4

   أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ ۝٤

   QaraiDo they not know that they will be resurrected

5. 83:5

   لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ ۝٥

   Qaraion a tremendous day,

6. 83:6

   يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ ۝٦

   Qaraia day when mankind will stand before the Lord of all the worlds?

7. 83:7

   كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ ۝٧

   QaraiIndeed, the record of the vicious is in Sijjeen.

8. 83:8

   وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ ۝٨

   QaraiAnd what will show you what is Sijjeen?

9. 83:9

   كِتَٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ ۝٩

   QaraiIt is a written record.

10. 83:10

    وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ۝١٠

    QaraiWoe to the deniers on that day,

11. 83:11

    ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ ۝١١

    Qaraiwho deny the Day of Retribution;

12. 83:12

    وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ ۝١٢

    Qaraiand none denies it except every sinful transgressor.

13. 83:13

    إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ۝١٣

    QaraiWhen Our signs are recited to him, he says, ‘Myths of the ancients!’

14. 83:14

    كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ ۝١٤

    QaraiNo, that is not the case! Rather, their hearts have been sullied by what they have been earning.

15. 83:15

    كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ ۝١٥

    QaraiIndeed, they will be alienated from their Lord on that day.

16. 83:16

    ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ ۝١٦

    QaraiAfterward they will enter hell,

17. 83:17

    ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝١٧

    Qaraithen told, ‘This is what you used to deny!’

18. 83:18

    كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ ۝١٨

    QaraiIndeed, the record of the pious is in Illeeyun.

19. 83:19

    وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ ۝١٩

    QaraiAnd what will show you what is Illeeyun?

20. 83:20

    كِتَٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ ۝٢٠

    QaraiIt is a written record,

21. 83:21

    يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ ۝٢١

    Qaraiwitnessed by those brought near [to Allah].

22. 83:22

    إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ ۝٢٢

    QaraiThe pious shall be amid bliss,

23. 83:23

    عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ ۝٢٣

    Qaraiobserving, [as they recline] on couches.

24. 83:24

    تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ۝٢٤

    QaraiYou will perceive in their faces the freshness of bliss.

25. 83:25

    يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ ۝٢٥

    QaraiThey will be served with a sealed pure wine,

26. 83:26

    خِتَٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَٰفِسُونَ ۝٢٦

    Qaraiwhose seal is musk—for such let the viers vie—

27. 83:27

    وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ ۝٢٧

    Qaraiand whose seasoning is from Tasneem,

28. 83:28

    عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ ۝٢٨

    Qaraia spring where those brought near [to Allah] drink.

29. 83:29

    إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ ۝٢٩

    QaraiIndeed the guilty used to laugh at the faithful,

30. 83:30

    وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ ۝٣٠

    Qaraiand when they passed them by they would wink at each other,

31. 83:31

    وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ ۝٣١

    Qaraiand when they returned to their folks they would return amused,

32. 83:32

    وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ ۝٣٢

    Qaraiand when they saw them they would say, ‘Indeed those are the astray!’

33. 83:33

    وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَٰفِظِينَ ۝٣٣

    QaraiThough they were not sent to watch over them.

34. 83:34

    فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ ۝٣٤

    QaraiSo today the faithful will laugh at the faithless,

35. 83:35

    عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ ۝٣٥

    Qaraiobserving from their couches:

36. 83:36

    هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ ۝٣٦

    QaraiHave the faithless been requited for what they used to do?
