Al-Fajr · The Dawn
30 verses · Revealed in Makkah
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
-
89:1
وَٱلْفَجْرِ ١
Walfajr
QaraiBy the Dawn,
Saheeh InternationalBy the dawn
-
89:2
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ ٢
Walayalin AAashr
Qaraiby the ten nights,
Saheeh InternationalAnd [by] ten nights
-
89:3
وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ ٣
WashshafAAi walwatr
Qaraiby the Even and the Odd,
Saheeh InternationalAnd [by] the even [number] and the odd
-
89:4
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ ٤
Wallayli itha yasr
Qaraiby the night when it departs!
Saheeh InternationalAnd [by] the night when it passes,
-
89:5
هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ ٥
Hal fee thalika qasamun lithee hijr
QaraiIs there an oath in that for one possessing intellect?
Saheeh InternationalIs there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?
-
89:6
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ ٦
Alam tara kayfa faAAala rabbuka biAAad
QaraiHave you not regarded how your Lord dealt with [the people of] ‘Ad,
Saheeh InternationalHave you not considered how your Lord dealt with ʿAad -
-
89:7
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ ٧
Irama thati alAAimad
Qarai[and] Iram, [the city] of the pillars,
Saheeh International[With] Iram - who had lofty pillars,
-
89:8
ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَٰدِ ٨
Allatee lam yukhlaq mithluha fee albilad
Qaraithe like of which was not created among cities,
Saheeh InternationalThe likes of whom had never been created in the land?
-
89:9
وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ ٩
Wathamooda allatheena jaboo assakhrabilwad
Qaraiand [the people of] Thamud, who hollowed out the rocks in the valley,
Saheeh InternationalAnd [with] Thamūd, who carved out the rocks in the valley?
-
89:10
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ ١٠
WafirAAawna thee al-awtad
Qaraiand Pharaoh, the impaler
Saheeh InternationalAnd [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes?
-
89:11
ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَٰدِ ١١
Allatheena taghaw fee albilad
Qarai—those who rebelled [against Allah] in their cities
Saheeh International[All of] whom oppressed within the lands
-
89:12
فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ ١٢
Faaktharoo feeha alfasad
Qaraiand caused much corruption in them,
Saheeh InternationalAnd increased therein the corruption.
-
89:13
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ ١٣
Fasabba AAalayhim rabbuka sawtaAAathab
Qaraiso your Lord poured on them lashes of punishment.
Saheeh InternationalSo your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.
-
89:14
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ ١٤
Inna rabbaka labilmirsad
QaraiIndeed your Lord is in ambush.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, your Lord is in observation.
-
89:15
فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ ١٥
Faamma al-insanu itha maibtalahu rabbuhu faakramahu wanaAAAAamahu fayaqoolu rabbeeakraman
QaraiAs for man, whenever his Lord tests him, and grants him honour, and blesses him, he says, ‘My Lord has honoured me.’
Saheeh InternationalAnd as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me."
-
89:16
وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَٰنَنِ ١٦
Waamma itha ma ibtalahufaqadara AAalayhi rizqahu fayaqoolu rabbee ahanan
QaraiBut when He tests him and tightens for him his provision, he says, ‘My Lord has humiliated me.’
Saheeh InternationalBut when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me."
-
89:17
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ ١٧
Kalla bal la tukrimoonaalyateem
QaraiNo indeed! No, you do not honour the orphan,
Saheeh InternationalNo! But you do not honor the orphan
-
89:18
وَلَا تَحَٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ ١٨
Wala tahaddoona AAala taAAamialmiskeen
Qaraiand do not urge the feeding of the needy.
Saheeh InternationalAnd you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.
-
89:19
وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا ١٩
Wata/kuloona atturatha aklanlamma
QaraiYou eat the inheritance rapaciously,
Saheeh InternationalAnd you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,
-
89:20
وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا ٢٠
Watuhibboona almala hubbanjamma
Qaraiand love wealth with much fondness.
Saheeh InternationalAnd you love wealth with immense love.
-
89:21
كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا ٢١
Kalla itha dukkati al-ardudakkan dakka
QaraiNo indeed! When the earth is levelled to a plain,
Saheeh InternationalNo! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed
-
89:22
وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا ٢٢
Wajaa rabbuka walmalaku saffansaffa
Qaraiand your Lord [’s edict] arrives with the angels in ranks,
Saheeh InternationalAnd your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank,
-
89:23
وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ ٢٣
Wajee-a yawma-ithin bijahannamayawma-ithin yatathakkaru al-insanu waannalahu aththikra
Qaraithe day when hell is brought [near], man will take admonition on that day, but what will that admonition avail him?
Saheeh InternationalAnd brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but how [i.e., what good] to him will be the remembrance?
-
89:24
يَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى ٢٤
Yaqoolu ya laytanee qaddamtu lihayatee
QaraiHe will say, ‘Alas, had I sent ahead for my life [in the Hereafter]!’
Saheeh InternationalHe will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."
-
89:25
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ ٢٥
Fayawma-ithin la yuAAaththibuAAathabahu ahad
QaraiOn that day none shall punish as He punishes,
Saheeh InternationalSo on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment,
-
89:26
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ ٢٦
Wala yoothiqu wathaqahu ahad
Qaraiand none shall bind as He binds.
Saheeh InternationalAnd none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers].
-
89:27
يَٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ٢٧
Ya ayyatuha annafsualmutma-inna
Qarai‘O soul at peace!
Saheeh International[To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul,
-
89:28
ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً ٢٨
IrjiAAee ila rabbiki radiyatanmardiyya
QaraiReturn to your Lord, pleased and pleasing!
Saheeh InternationalReturn to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],
-
89:29
فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَٰدِى ٢٩
Fadkhulee fee AAibadee
QaraiThen enter among My servants,
Saheeh InternationalAnd enter among My [righteous] servants
-
89:30
وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى ٣٠
Wadkhulee jannatee
Qaraiand enter My paradise!’
Saheeh InternationalAnd enter My Paradise."
