بِسْمِ
-
90:1
ل
َآ أُقْ سِمُ بِهَٰ ذَاٱ لْبَلَد ِ ١La oqsimu bihatha albalad
I swear by this town,Ali Quli Qarai
I swear by this city [i.e., Makkah] –Saheeh International
-
90:2
وَأَ
نت َ حِلٌّۢ ب ِهَٰ ذَاٱ لْبَلَد ِ ٢Waanta hillun bihatha albalad
as you reside in this town;Ali Quli Qarai
And you, [O Muḥammad], are free of restriction in this city –Saheeh International
-
90:3
وَوَالِ
دٍ ۢو َمَا وَلَد َ ٣Wawalidin wama walad
[and] by the father and him whom he begot:Ali Quli Qarai
And [by] the father and that which was born [of him],Saheeh International
-
90:4
لَقَ
دْ خَلَقْ نَاٱ لْإِنس َٰ نَ فِى كَبَد ٍ ٤Laqad khalaqna al-insana feekabad
certainly We created man in travail.Ali Quli Qarai
We have certainly created man into hardship.Saheeh International

90:5
أَيَحْسَبُ أ
َن ل َّن ي َقْ دِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَد ٌۭ ٥Ayahsabu an lan yaqdira AAalayhi ahad
Does he suppose that no one will ever have power over him?Ali Quli Qarai
Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?Saheeh International
-
90:6
يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَال
ً ۭال ُّبَدًا ٦Yaqoolu ahlaktu malan lubada
He says, ‘I have squandered immense wealth.’Ali Quli Qarai
He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."Saheeh International
-
90:7
أَيَحْسَبُ أ
َن ل َّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَد ٌ ٧Ayahsabu an lam yarahu ahad
Does he suppose that no one sees him?Ali Quli Qarai
Does he think that no one has seen him?Saheeh International
-
90:8
أَلَمْ نَ
جْ عَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْ نِ ٨Alam najAAal lahu AAaynayn
Have We not made for him two eyes,Ali Quli Qarai
Have We not made for him two eyes?Saheeh International
-
90:9
وَلِسَا
نً ۭا و َشَفَتَيْ نِ ٩Walisanan washafatayn
a tongue, and two lips,Ali Quli Qarai
And a tongue and two lips?Saheeh International
-
90:10
وَهَدَيْنَ
ٰ هُٱ ل نّ َجْ دَيْ نِ ١٠Wahadaynahu annajdayn
and shown him the two paths [of good and evil]?Ali Quli Qarai
And have shown him the two ways?Saheeh International
-
90:11
فَلَا
ٱ قْ تَحَمَٱ لْعَقَبَةَ ١١Fala iqtahama alAAaqaba
Yet he has not embarked upon the uphill task.Ali Quli Qarai
But he has not broken through the difficult pass.Saheeh International
-
90:12
وَم
َآ أَدْ رَىٰ كَ مَاٱ لْعَقَبَةُ ١٢Wama adraka maalAAaqaba
And what will show you what is the uphill task?Ali Quli Qarai
And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?Saheeh International
-
90:13
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ ١٣
Fakku raqaba
[It is] the freeing of a slave,Ali Quli Qarai
It is the freeing of a slaveSaheeh International
-
90:14
أَوْ إِ
طْ عَٰ مٌ ۭف ِى يَوْمٍ ۢذ ِى مَسْغَبَةٍۢ ١٤Aw itAAamun fee yawmin theemasghaba
or feeding, during days of [general] starvation,Ali Quli Qarai
Or feeding on a day of severe hungerSaheeh International
-
90:15
يَتِي
مً ۭا ذ َا مَقْ رَبَةٍ ١٥Yateeman tha maqraba
an orphan among relativesAli Quli Qarai
An orphan of near relationshipSaheeh International
-
90:16
أَوْ مِسْكِي
نً ۭا ذ َا مَتْرَبَةٍۢ ١٦Aw miskeenan tha matraba
or a needy man in desolation,Ali Quli Qarai
Or a needy person in miserySaheeh International
-
90:17
ثُ
مّ َ كَانَ مِنَٱ لَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱ ل صَّبْ رِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱ لْمَرْحَمَةِ ١٧Thumma kana mina allatheena amanoowatawasaw bissabri watawasaw bilmarhama
while being one of those who have faith and enjoin one another to patience, and enjoin one another to compassion.Ali Quli Qarai
And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion.Saheeh International

90:18
أُ
و۟ لَٰٓ ئِكَ أَصْحَٰ بُٱ لْمَيْمَنَةِ ١٨Ola-ika as-habualmaymana
They are the People of the Right Hand.Ali Quli Qarai
Those are the companions of the right.Saheeh International
-
90:19
وَ
ٱ لَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بَِٔايَٰ تِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَٰ بُٱ لْمَشَْٔمَةِ ١٩Wallatheena kafaroo bi-ayatinahum as-habu almash-ama
But those who defy Our signs, they are the People of the Left Hand.Ali Quli Qarai
But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left.Saheeh International
-
90:20
عَلَيْهِمْ نَا
رٌ ۭم ُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ ٢٠AAalayhim narun mu/sada
A closed Fire will be [imposed] upon them.Ali Quli Qarai
Over them will be fire closed in.Saheeh International
