Ash-Shams · The Sun

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 91:1

   وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا ۝١

   QaraiBy the sun and her forenoon splendour,

2. 91:2

   وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا ۝٢

   Qaraiby the moon when he follows her,

3. 91:3

   وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا ۝٣

   Qaraiby the day when it reveals her,

4. 91:4

   وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا ۝٤

   Qaraiby the night when it covers her,

5. 91:5

   وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا ۝٥

   Qaraiby the sky and Him who built it,

6. 91:6

   وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا ۝٦

   Qaraiby the earth and Him who spread it,

7. 91:7

   وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا ۝٧

   Qaraiby the soul and Him who fashioned it,

8. 91:8

   فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا ۝٨

   Qaraiand inspired it with [discernment between] its virtues and vices:

9. 91:9

   قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا ۝٩

   Qaraione who purifies it is felicitous,

10. 91:10

    وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا ۝١٠

    Qaraiand one who betrays it fails.

11. 91:11

    كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ ۝١١

    QaraiThe [people of] Thamud denied [Allah’s signs] out of their rebellion,

12. 91:12

    إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا ۝١٢

    Qaraiwhen the most wretched of them rose up.

13. 91:13

    فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَٰهَا ۝١٣

    QaraiThe apostle of Allah had told them, ‘This is Allah’s she-camel, let her drink!’

14. 91:14

    فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا ۝١٤

    QaraiBut they impugned him and hamstrung her. So their Lord took them unawares by night because of their sin, and levelled it.

15. 91:15

    وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَٰهَا ۝١٥

    QaraiAnd He does not fear its outcome.
